Where can I host my mods / pictures?
Looking for a place to host your mod?
NOTE: before submitting a mod to a site read the Terms of use/ Mod submission guidelines specific to the site to which you are submitting your mods. ============================================= Image hosting: http://photobucket.com - image hosting http://fotopic.net/ - image hosting http://www.imageshack.us/ - image hosting no registration needed. You can also upload screenshots (1024x768 max dimensions) to your member profile album here on Lucasforums. ============================================= Want to set up your own free website? Note:If you have your own site, we strongly encourage you to submit you mods to one of the above sites (LucasFiles and PCGM) as well in order to make KotOR mods more accessible. Here are some free webhosting suggestions: (None of the following sites requires knowledge of html but it helps if you want to do something a little more fancy). The common points between theses sites apart being free? Adds and to make sure you view their adds, posting direct links to images/downloads on other sites (such as the present forum) is not allowed - look further below for image hosting sites)
============================================= General File hosting: http://rapidshare.com/ 30 days, 50 mb limit all files allowed http://megaupload.com/ http://walagata.com http://ww3.sharebigfile.com/ 250 mb limit, all files allowed, 7 days or 250 downloads http://www.megaupload.com/ 500 mb limit 30 days after the file is not being downloaded anymore http://www.uploadtemple.com/ File Types: All file types except for .php,mp3 Max Size per File: 30.00 MB, files stored for ?? http://www.filecabi.net/ Accepted Files : .wmv .avi .mpg .mov .swf .asx .jpg .gif .png .pdf file storage 4 ever. 10 mb max http://uploadhut.com/ 50 mb limit. all files allowed http://www.swiftdesk.com/ 30 mb max. register 4 free. http://sendthisfile.com/ no file size limit. all files allowed. max 3 downloads. register 4 free http://www.dropload.com Space: 100Mb limit: 7 day http://www.yousendit.com Space: 1Gb, download can resume, specail download manager limit: 25 download or 7 days http://www.sharebigfile.com 100mb limiit, there is a 7 day download limit like some of the others but you can have 250 downloads before link is done http://www.putfile.com Space: 10Mb limits: Only images and video http://www.webfile.ru Space: 20Mb limits: bandwidht limit, password protect, russian http://sharefiles.ru Space: 50Mb limits: bandwidht limit, password protect, russian site http://www.updownloadserver.de/ no Traffic- or Downloadlimit After Upload, you'll get an URL. This URL you can Post as an Download link or something else. Your file will be deleted, if after 30 days there where no download action detected http://www.ultrashare.net/ - 28,6MB file limit, no bandwidht limit, file removed if not downloaded for 30 days http://www.glintfiles.net/upload.php 30 mb max http://www.4shared.com/ 1gb Free, more space available for an annual subscription. 50mb limit per file. http://www.dropbox.com/ 2gb Free, more space available for fee. Great for direct downloads and file sharing/storage (place download files in Public folder). Adds a folder to desktop, via app, that acts as a faux-ftp (no single-file size limit). Web upload available as well for files under 300mb ea. when not at your desktop or don't want to install the app. |
you can also host files on fileplanet.com I've been planning to upload my mods there soon.
|
KotORfiles.com is under construction, rumor has it (like JK3files.com). So far it seems to be off limits to public viewers.

http://www.tripod.lycos.co.uk/ is a good site too. |
fileplanet is slow, thats why i hate it. :D
|
You are free to upload your mods where you want but it would be nice to keep a centralized place such as lucasfiles and pcgamemods where the majority of modders upload their mods so they are easily accessible. When you look for somehting, you know where to go.

DLX Gamespot also hosts files -- just use the 'talk to us' link on the sidebar.

I'll be sure to kill it from the list. No good hosting mods on it if you can't even do anything with the site ;) |
There's also www.freewebtown.com - 1gb bandwidth/month, no ads, FTP access, 20mb space, no file size or type limits (other than the 20mb) and a lot of features as well. No PHP support though; they killed that after someone tried to take down their servers...

okay, 2 wee questions,
1) why can i post my mod on PCGM, it always comes up with file not found when i choose the section where i want the mod. 2) i've done everything for LucasFiles, sent the E-Mail with mod, got e-mail saying it will be up in 24 hours -------- waited and nothing, must i wait longer? or must i do it again?? i dont want my own site, becoz i like the fact that the majority use PCGM and LucasFiles so there would be no use. so im stuck for the moment. 2) Lucasfiles can sometimes have lengthy waiting periods. My Juhani Dark Robe took almost 2 weeks for it to show. My guess is because it's an Official mods depot, each mod has to go through a 'screening'. Depending who and how many are on staff...and/or the legal consequences they could suffer for a 'mistake', I'm sure the mod gets examine head to toe. The good thing is, Lucasfiles traffic is pretty good and download tallies can shine almost as well as pcgamemods... :) |

Hosting for TSL Mods (eventually)
Hey all,
I was just wondering something. With TSL for the PC available in under 2 weeks, modding is going to eventually happen. For most of us, we each have our own sites to host our mods, BUT we all know the convenience of using pcgamemods as a central depot. 1) Is there going to be a TSL section at pcgamemods. I understand it's not a site maintained by Lucasforums, but was wondering if there has been "negotiation talks" or an arrangement (or hell, a desperate plea & good ole fashioned ass-kissing;) ) 2) If not, are we to upload TSL related mods to the Kotor Section (I can see poblems developing here unless there's massive backwards compatibility). If we DO decide to upload mods there (in Kotor Section), should we at least agree to mark it in either the mod description or filename? ie - 1) TSL_ChAiNzFeebleMod.zip or in the description: 2) "This mod was developed for TSL. My mod description...blahblahblah" Just wondering if anyone else has any ideas or thought of this? |
I would say as long as we mark our mods with big neon lights from now untill pcgamemods has a TSL section we probably won't have problems with people trying to load a TSL mod into KOTOR 1. However since we can't have a big flashing banner that says this is a TSL mod we may want to have about twenty different references in the mod title, description, mod name, and Readme. Otherwise our own personal sites and lucasfiles might be less of a headache.(One of the reasons I've been working hard on completing the development of my own site.)

Incidentally, the KOTOR section has been, in my view, the most friendly and easy to run section that PCGM has ever had by a mile. I'd like to take the chance to say what a good community this is, and how amazed I am by the helpfulness and deceny of its members. Its no surprise that Sergio would be happy to have a KOTOR II section really, the first was a big success for the site. I'm retiring from my PCGM admining, I've emailed several people from the KOTOR community who have helped me out these past months, so hopefully you'll get some great new admins there. Appologies for monentarily hijacking this thread as a platform... but I'd like to thank everyone who has used the KOTOR section at PCGM for making it so enjoyable to admin. Finally, I'd like to say Sergio deserves a lot of credit for what he has done at PCGM, good on him. I now return you to your normal forums service, bye all :) |

Though the KotOR section and members here at Holowan will miss your "always there to the rescue" dedication, I'm sure you have your reasons. That doesn't mean you're going to be a stranger here is it?.... naaaahh that would be 'inconceivable' (we hope) Quote:
Thanks Kengo for going to bat for us and getting this set up. We owe you alot! :D |
You're not the only one to go from the JA section to KOTOR Kengo, I know what you mean. :) Glad to hear about the TSL section.

Kinda hoping I'd get one of those e-mails too, but no big deal. |
I was wondering if Lucasfiles.com will have a section for SWkotOR II anytime soon? So far I only see a section for Kotor1 mods.
I'm glad to see that Lucasarts is k0ol about their games being modded:) |
PLease If your uploading TSL mods to the KotOR Section at PCGM use this [TSL] Tag. It will make My job of Moving all the TSL mods to the TSL section from the KotORsection Much easyer when that section is up. It will also prevent People looking for KotOR mods getting confused and Installing a TSL mod into KotOR.
btw: how come Most people are not uploading screenshots for reskins? |
Quote:
but I forgot to include the screenies for the segan jedi armors when I upload it I guess I should go do that. |
Quote:
As for ScreenShots There is no rule that says you have to post them and in fact there are mods that don't need a screen But personally I think it does add professionalism to the mods. Also I won't even consider downloading a mod that has a visual change without first seeing a screenshot. |
another site that has PHP hosting is Ripway
Total Free Account Space: 30 Mb PHP: Yes FTP: No Pretty good if you just want your own website to update people about your mods and such but not very good for hosting due to low bandwith. But IMO better than Geocites |
another good free website isBrave Host Web Hosting i got space there but you have to get a premium account to get the good stuff but they host pictures and they give you 50 mb webspace free

KotOR 2 Section at PCGM now available
As T7Nowhere said in this sticky, Sergio at PCGamemods.com has been kind enough to set up a KotOR II section for mod uploads. Please use that section for TSL-specific mods: T7Nowhere will appreciate it. :)

Just FYI,
Lucasfiles has just added their own KotOR II (TSL) section :emodanc: However, they only accept .zip versions ;) http://www.lucasfiles.com/ |
Quote:
The reason I ask is I wonder if they will simply upload mods "for us" as filefront.com (or whatever that site was that kept stealin' our stuff  ) Gen. Kenobi |
Quote:
I've had very good relations with them in the past (Hornet is especially nice)... and have never had a problem with them.. When I wind up converting my mods over to an acceptable .zip format, I'll submit more of my TSL mods over there... (or just pack my .rar in a zip.. hehehe) anywho, the "short" version is: Lucasfiles = Good ;) |
Quote:
LucasFiles is part of LFNetwork (just as Starwarsknights.com, Holowan Labs and LucasForums ) which benefits from a special (and lenghty) agreement with LEC. LucasFiles is joint project of both LFNetwork and LEC :) In fact, legally speaking, it's the safest place to upload your mods...and it's good for us too ;) I made my mods before the kotor section was setup so that's why they're not there but I'll be uploading them as soon as I get time to polish them a bit more. |
I can't believe I didn't think of that D333  I even noticed the Logo at the top of the page when I closed the download sites window and didn't think about it...lol
Well if we get one :newbie: question a week I just asked it...lol "Is it safe for us to host mods made by us with us."...ooh what a Maroon ;) _________________________________________________ I personally like the site that the USM team utilized for their screenies of all the goodies and such. :D It seemed to have a very nice interface you could apply.(from what I saw of the USM screenies). |
