HD DVD or Blu-Ray?

Which one of these media players do you have? I use regular DVD's

Don Quixote 06-15-2007 09:33 PM

I happen to have Blu-Ray and the graphics are amazing!

CLONECOMMANDER501 06-15-2007 09:49 PM

I wish I had Blue Ray but I don't watch any movies so..........

Diego Varen 06-16-2007 02:07 AM

DVD. I do plan to get a PS3 at some point though, but whether I'll use its Blu-Ray option, I have no idea.

Samnmax221 06-16-2007 02:15 AM

Currently DVD. I'm going to sit back and see how this format war pans out before making any decisions.

Titanius Anglesmith 06-16-2007 02:28 AM

I'm not upgrading from regular DVDs until I see what eventually becomes more popular and/or widespread. It'll be a sad day when I do upgrade though, since my whole movie collection is DVDs, and I'll be set back just a few dollars if I have to buy every one of them again.

I think the HD DVD player is compatible with regular DVD's.

Commander Obi-Wan 06-16-2007 12:13 PM

Currently, I have a DVD player. Though, I also have my Xbox 360, which is hook-up to my TV through an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable and the picture is quite clear and sharp.

I don't when I'll upgrade, if I do, to HD-DVD or Blu-ray. But, I don't see it coming in time soon.

Fredi 06-16-2007 12:18 PM

DVD.... but I wich I could have blu-ray.. ha-ha and I use too VHS

Jeff 06-16-2007 01:36 PM

I as well will be waiting to see how the battle between the two formats pans out... They definitely need to come down in price before they become mainstream. I'd kind of like to see HD-DVD come out on top.

RC-1162 06-16-2007 04:10 PM

Got a DVD myself.

Sabretooth 06-17-2007 05:20 AM

Damn, those new players already popped up! They all grow so fast. :p

I still have my trusty Sony DVD-RAM.

Ctrl Alt Del 06-17-2007 06:39 PM

I've got a DVD player.

But all seems that Blu-ray will triump over HD-DVD. Even if it's more expensive.

milo 06-17-2007 07:09 PM

What? No VHS?

Det. Bart Lasiter 06-17-2007 07:33 PM

Betamax.

PoiuyWired 06-18-2007 03:47 PM

Well, I guess they would release TFU on 8 track then. There would be quite some tapes.

Personally I think HD-DVD > blu-ray. Burn In Gizka Poodoo sony.

In relation to the quesio, Blu-Ray for me!

slornie 06-22-2007 08:05 AM

DVD,
and in relation to the Blu-ray vs HD-DVD thing - arent some companies developing players that are compatible with both of those and regular DVDs ?
and some developing combined blu-ray/HD-DVD disks ?

Mike Windu 06-22-2007 10:59 PM

DVD. I still use VHS sometimes too. I'm not too bothered with HD junk at this point because honestly, it doesn't matter.

Jae Onasi 07-01-2007 04:03 PM

I'm waiting for the dust to settle on this fight, too. We don't get rid of our older stuff when the new comes along, though--it's just too expensive with all the music and videos we've acquired over 20-ish years. We actually still have vinyl LPs (33's and 45's) in a box in the basement and cassette tapes in a cabinet, and a turntable and cassette player to handle both. No 8-tracks, though, sorry. We have a dual VHS/DVD player to play those. When HD or Blu-ray has a good amount of material available on it and one of our current players just isn't doing the job anymore, we'll move to that format as well.

swphreak 07-02-2007 12:53 PM

You'll take me away from my DVDs kicking and screaming. Should one next-gen HD format win the war, and when the prices drop to current DVD prices, I might upgrade. The last DVD player I bought cost $60, and I get DVDs for $12-$15. The HD formats have a loong way to go.

RoxStar 07-16-2007 12:38 AM

I may get that HD DVD player for Xbox 360 if a sufficient amount of movies made of awesome go HD ;)

I was thinking of getting one of those too.

That's always a possibility for me as well. But, at the moment, I don't think I am going to get it. Even though, they expecting to lower the price of it to $179 USD.

GeneralPloKoon 08-17-2007 04:20 AM

DVD, but I do play on getting an HD-DVD with a 360.

Rev7 11-18-2007 10:30 PM

DVD. I wish that I had all of this high-tech equipment though... but sadly I don't. :(

Serpentine Cougar 11-20-2007 01:28 AM

I've only got DVD. I'm waiting for either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray to become the clear winner before I jump on the 'wagon.

RobQel-Droma 12-23-2007 12:09 PM

Just DVD, unfortunately. Blu-Ray would be sweet, though, I've seen the graphics.....

Rogue15 12-23-2007 04:30 PM

i've never watched a movie on either to know the difference. -_-

littleman794 04-08-2008 12:32 PM

DVD(technically I use my Xbox), it seems it's been a little more popular answer.

remember though, it has also been out longer..so if one's DVD player (or game system)works fine, why bother buying something else?(unless your rich of course)

I think they should upgrade Wii's to play DVDs...

(")>.<(")

tyrone333 04-28-2008 03:56 AM

DVD player but HD ray graphics are awesome but some of them suck. so I really own a dvd play only my brother owns Blu-Ray

adamqd 04-28-2008 04:34 AM

DVD, because the only way I could afford a poo-ray is by getting a PS3.... And that will never happen!!! 360owns

Da_man 05-07-2008 09:00 PM

I'd go with HD-DVD cuz I have an Xbox 360, but I think they stopped making HD-DVDs, so I guess this all moot point then?

Pho3nix 05-19-2008 06:23 AM

DVD and Blu-Ray.

M@RS 05-22-2008 11:49 AM

DVD

Gurges-Ahter 05-22-2008 01:29 PM

I only have DVD for now - I was waiting to see who won the HD DVD vs Blu-Ray war. Now that Blu-Ray has won, I'll end up getting a Blu-Ray player soon (probably a PS3)

GwannaSauna 10-29-2008 01:36 AM

I have both a Blu-Ray player* and an HD DVD player :). Blu-Ray is better...

*Notice I didn't say PS3

SW01 11-03-2008 12:16 AM

I'm still using DVDs, and probably will continue to do so for quite a while. The new ones are just far too expensive at the moment. For example, at my local movie/music/etc. shop, a film tha costs around 7-10 may cost upwards of 20 on Blu-Ray. Now, irrespective of any graphical enhancements or special features, I find that a little absurd...

However, I voted Blu-Ray in the poll by virtue of being a PS3 user. It was quite gratifying to see PS3's medium trump that favoured by the 360!

Darth Avlectus 11-25-2008 04:15 AM

I have DVDs, though I'd like to give the blu-ray a shot.

For now, though, I am satified with buying surplus Blu-Ray reader assemblies and turning them into purple laser pointers.

Though I'd say more of a whitish blue.

LordOfTheFish 11-25-2008 01:39 PM

DVD. It's high enough quality for me. HD and Blu-Ray are a waist in my opinion.
