Introduce Yourself

I've noticed some new people have signed up for the forums, which is really great. If you've come here to get away from the drab politics of this rainy day Monday morning world, then you're very welcome. If you're here for any other reason, you're still welcome to stay!

I thought it might be a good idea to get to "know" people a bit better. Post your own profiles here, if you're new or not. And if you're reading this without a forum account, sign up now and introduce yourself! It takes two seconds and is completely free (well, not completely. Spaff technically gets to own your soul, but that's a mere detail that probably won't effect you until the afterlife).

I'm Gabez: slightly tall, slightly scruffy; brown hair, brown eyes, brown trousers. I like walks in the countryside, especially in woods and by the sea. I'm interested in history and my favourite author is either Philip Pullman or C.S. Lewis (talk about opposites...!)

Now you!

The Tingler 05-04-2008 10:29 AM

I'm resident whipping-boy Chris 'The Tingler' Capel. I'm currently in the grip of Indy Fever in the run up to the release of Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, and I'm quite looking forward to the movie too. I'm taller and slightly browner in the hair and eye department than Gabez, but I tend to favour blue trousers.

I live within boulder-rolling distance of Gabez which shocked him immensely when I arrived on his doorstep wearing one of my many Psychonauts T-shirts begging for a job at Mojo. Graciously and with a close eye on that machete strapped to my thigh, he relented. We've never looked back.

Oh, favourite author: Douglas Adams. Even though I'm still mad at him for dying.

Gabez 05-04-2008 10:46 AM

Oh, I don't know... I might have looked back a few times.

The Tingler 05-04-2008 10:48 AM

(sharpens machete)

Kroms 05-04-2008 12:06 PM

Hi, my name is Kroms and I am an alcoholic. Not really. I haven't cut my hair in five months because I'm too lazy, I have eyes that don't know if they want to be green or blue yet and switch between them, and I spend my free time with friends, or reading, watching movies, listening to underground or punk rock and gaming. I design video games as a hobby and I'm thinking of getting into this beast of an industry. And I started writing for Mojo (which I still don't believe) by...well I have no idea. I don't have a favourite author but I really like A Clockwork Orange and To Kill a Mockingbird, and I've read quite a lot over the years.

Gabez 05-04-2008 12:16 PM

This thread doesn't do much to counter the rumour that Mojo staff members are the only people who visit the site. :~

s-island 05-04-2008 12:18 PM

That's why I haven't written anything here yet. Oh, wait...

Kroms 05-04-2008 12:58 PM

Well for some reason the forums are dead and people come to the site but no-one's been actually commenting. Perhaps it has to do with the fact you have to sign-in to comment? :P

Glokidd 05-04-2008 01:16 PM

I'm Grant "GloKidd" Yeager, i obviously don't really glow and at just about 26 years i'm hardly a kid ;) I got the nickname during one of those seedy rave things that everyone was into a few years back. Basically i bought about 200$ worth of Glo-Sticks, activated and taped them all over myself and wandered around dancing (LSD may or may not have been involved :P ) and the nick has stuck ever since.

I too am a member of the brown hair-brown eyes club(although my eyes tend to change between brown and green a lot, technically making them hazel, or something) My hair is currently 2 and a half feet long and my eyes dont see too well. Im generally about 5'6" around the right people but have been told by others that there is no chance in hell that i am actually that tall so i guess its probably about 5'4"-5'5".

I spent most of the first half of my life dedicated to Monkey Island and the Martial Arts (the art'ish type, not competitive) purely so i could enforce my love of the game on anyone i ever met :P (almost totally joking here). Currently, like millions of other former film-students, i am a film-maker between jobs who loves to spend all his time online on forums and chatrooms. I love to read.

My favorite authors are generally within Sci-fi and Fantasy topped by Terry Pratchett and Matthew Stover. I most likely will get e-burned for this but i am a huge fan of the Star Wars novels, having read pretty much every one several times.

My current hobbies include collecting Lucasarts titles (specifically those from the MI series, My goal is to one day have at least one copy of all the myriad releases from all over the world) Re-discovering PC gaming through Steam, and enjoying the current lineup of consoles. Oh yeah i guess i like movies too :P

Haggis 05-04-2008 01:20 PM

Hi! I'm Haggis!

...

Typical Dutch guy I guess, although there probably isn't such a thing. I study history, like music, hobbies include gaming and photography. Um, yeah. In short, I'm very exciting!

QueZTone 05-04-2008 01:43 PM

i'm queztone, dutch student in commercial economics! been around teh mojo for yearsssss and yearssss, aye that be true! i'm 24 years old and looking forward to upcoming summer! and new mojo stuff!

i used to be a huge fan, now i'm a mild worshipper of the Golden Age..

i lurk and i sometimes mingle within the frontpage news items and forums, i be watching you all.. _

The Tingler 05-04-2008 02:59 PM

I still remember that magical day when I found a copy of The Dig and I suddenly had every single LucasArts adventure... happy day.

Sven_Q45 05-04-2008 03:34 PM

@TheTingler
Its not long ago...

@Haggis
I guess not. ;) :D

Gabez 05-04-2008 03:37 PM

You didn't introduce yourself, Sven_Q45!

The Tingler 05-04-2008 03:38 PM

Yeah! Who are you anyway?

Valkian 05-04-2008 03:41 PM

This is Sam! I haven't cut my hair in... seven or eight months (in your face Kroms!). I love "introduce yourself" posts, they are soooo much funnn. Well, no, not really. But, yes, they are. It's confusing.
I haven't updated The Dig Museum, in a longer period of time than my last hair update. I guess that's embarrassing and sort of annoying... and what about that Thrillville website? I haven't touched that since I made it. But I'll do all that... eventually (2048), as my love for mojo hasn't faded at all.

And what else... oh yeah, I choose Pepsi over Coke, whenever I can choose. Very important. And basically that...

The Tingler 05-04-2008 03:43 PM

I'm a Coke man myself, although I've been having a lot more Pepsi recently (sips his Coke - not kidding)

I'm aiming for seven months.

COKE FOREVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glokidd 05-04-2008 10:37 PM

I'm sorry but i have you both beat at going on three and a half years :p

My last haircut was a razor special, shaved heads are way easier to deal with :) I definately get tempted very often to lose it all again but then i stop and think "How the heck am i going to do my LeChuck impression that way?" and decide to grow a beard instead. I also have always wanted dreads, so i keep the hair for it, i want to do it right though as incorrect or lazily formed locks can really be gross.

And Coke for life, waters for chumps :p

Considering the current lengths of my hair, I'd set a new record if I kept it for three and a half years lol.

I drink around 3 ltrs. of water a day. God I love that stuff.

jp-30 05-05-2008 12:30 AM

I live at the bottom of the world in New Zealand. Married for 9 years, 3 kids (7, 5, 3). I work from home (freelance graphic design, website design) most of my clients being in the NZ Music Industry. I worked at Sony Music before the merger with BMG, so picked up a lot of contacts through that. I turn, ulp, 37 later this year.

Working from home means it's me who looks after the 3 year old and runs the other two to school etc.

I've dabbled in game modding, writing comprehensive tutorials for Jedi Academy & Lego Star Wars character skinning and working on the Dark Forces mod for Jedi Academy.

I also worked for 10 years in the wine industry (including abandoning a Masters degree in Oenology as I couldn't be bothered finishing my thesis - got all my papers though, so equivalent to a postgrad diploma, I guess). Worked in a number of NZ wineries, plus Geyser Peak near Sonoma in Northern California.

With the kids we don't get out to the movies much (though Indy will be a definite exception), and I tend to start reading books and then never finish them (much like my gaming habits).

So I watch a fair bit of TV, loved Flight of teh Conchords when that was on a few months back. Currently really liking 30 Rock and Lost.

elTee 05-05-2008 04:48 AM

That sounds pretty nice jp-30 - working from home would be a godsend for me. There's quite a few bands I like from down-under, but they're all from the 80s - Flying Nun-type bands.

Anyway I'm twenty-three, just finished a degree in english language w/ creative writing and I am currently looking for a place to live with my girlfriend, so we can save up some cash and go travelling.

Bad Asp! 05-05-2008 08:37 AM

Waitohooru here. 29 years old, and believe it or not, I have autism. I have a tendency to go into emotional outbursts from time to time, so if you freak out by one of my posts, I understand. I currently have a part time job at the Perkins School For The Blind in Boston, Massachusetts, where I do volunteer work rewinding books on tape.

Oh, my real name? Well, my first name is David, but that's all I'll tell you for now...

CHOP-E 05-05-2008 10:53 AM

Hi I'm Chop-e. Ive actually been signed up for a few months but I don't post that much so no one really knows me. Oh yeah, and by the way El Sitherino is my fiance

MarioColbert 05-05-2008 04:59 PM

Hello. I've been a mixnmojo reader for ages. I have a degree in applied mathematics and am currently studying music composition, because that's what I want to do. I'm 25, and I've played adventure games ever since the age of four, thanks to my father, who took me to his job (and tortured me with English-language quizzes before I could start off Zak McKracken - see the mojo article for more info).

Apart from LucasArts, I grew up with a fair bit of Sierra adventures, although mostly was obsessed with Space Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry (for obvious reasons for both). Was a huge fan of the Gobliiins series, and was very happy to have lived my early teen years with the development of what is probably the "golden era" of CD-ROM adventures. I am a rabid fan of Revolution Software Broken Sword series, The Last Express, Little Big Adventure, all things LucasArts, TellTale, DoubleFine, and Nintendo. May also say some kind things about less popular titles, such as Lost Eden, or Discworld games. Don't freak out. I just have terrible taste.

Oh, I also happen to be obsessed with Great Britain for no good reason whatsoever. Well, I suppose if you don't count things like their tv shows, and electronic music. I'm not American, despite living in the states at the moment.

The Tingler 05-05-2008 05:02 PM

Congratulations to CHOP-E by the way!

At one point I was the creator/administrator of the Dimmer website (Dimmer being the band of former Straitjacket Fits frontman Shayne Carter). I do a fair bit of work for Paul McKessar these days, who owned Flying Nun after Roger Shephard sold it.

Ray Jones 05-05-2008 06:05 PM

Hi, I'm Ray. I made my first post here at Mojo like five years ago so holler at me.

Today I'm here to say (once again) CHOP-E and Sithey should create offspring ASAP because they're such a cuuuute couple <3 ;~~

That's really cool! I think The Chills are/were an NZ band weren't they? Some of their stuff is absolutely fantastic.

jp-30 05-06-2008 02:53 AM

Yeah, The Chills still get together every so often. Basically whoever Martin Phillips wants to surround himself with a the time. At my elder two kids' school assembly last term, the whole school (5-12 year olds) sang Heavenly Pop Hit.

It was spine-chillingly awesome, and cute.

Sven_Q45 05-06-2008 08:30 AM

First theoretical examinations day is over. :)
Next day: Tommorrow.

Introduction or Intrusion

Mh, introduce or intrude? :D

Hi, Im Sven. I think you ought to know that! ;) Im 19 years old. Ive internet since 2005. You can say its not long ago. And was a little bit late. :D Ive a PC since Im 8 years old and later I got my second LA-adventure: The Dig (2004 or 05). And from then on Im interested in LA. Later, I got Full Throttle (2004 or 05) and I bought all others later by myself (2005 or 06 and later). My first games were Dott (and MM), Goblins 3, BioMenace 1, Bash 1, Commander Keen 1-8, Harry 1 and so on. I cant remember of all.
I live in Schwaikheim, thats near Stuttgart in Baden-Wrttemberg. Its in Germany, Europe, Earth uhm Milky Way. ;)
My fathers uncle marryed an Englishwoman. But I saw him only 1 times in Germany. I wasnt in Great Britain, yet. :( Before you ask: I learned nothing from him. I learnd english in school, like near everybody and the rest by myself. I asked my teacher about a few words (I knew the other words) and I translated the whole BioMenace 1 in my thoughts. Its ca. 8 or 7 years ago. I had an old 386 (Windows 3.11), 486 (Windows 3.11 and later 95), a Pentium 2 or 3 (Windows 98) and now a Pentium 4 (Windows XP) but Im on a new one. It must be a very good, fast PC. I hate the further development. I keep my P4 for internet and old games.
I make a train to a butcher. But dont worry I dont slaughter.
Im interested in adventure games (especially LucasArts or Star Wars Arts? :D ), walking (I like it, like in an adventure game like The Dig), music, internet, reading, swimming, Wikipedia a little bit, riding a bike and my car and in vehicles (Nissan/Datsun/Infiniti) Ive one by myself and my father. ;) My sister has a Ford.

Mh, did I forget anything?

purple_tentacle_ 06-23-2009 05:09 PM

Hey I am purple_tentacle_ and my favorite game is day of the tentacle.

scabb 06-24-2009 03:18 PM

Hi. I'm James, 23, Yorkshire, UK, really like commas, and I work as a software engineer for an amoral defence contractor. Currently managed to skint myself through various large purchases and trips, so am now saving up to either A) Move somewhere better! or B) Bugger off round Europe for a bit, if only for a couple of months. I'm not very good at saving up though. Life is a bit too easy at the moment and I need to get off my arse anyway.

Erm.. currently looking forward to August, where I'll be going to the Edinburgh Fringe for a bit, possibly heading to Cologne for some geeky games festival thing, and then finally setting up a tent in the mud for Leeds Fest. Should be at Glastonbury right now damnit! Cheers for moving to Northern Ireland, Greg. Bastard.

That's all.

elTee: You're 24 aren't you? Is your memory going or sumfing, grandad?

purple_tentacle_ 06-25-2009 12:43 AM

Oh and forgot to say I live in Socal and I am only 13...

elTee 06-25-2009 06:20 AM

Haha, I was 23 then - but I am 24 now :(

Snugglecakes 06-25-2009 07:19 AM

Heh! Good thread.

Hello. I'm a 30 year old LucasArts Classic Adventure obsessed little boy. Part of this comes from seeing Monkey Island at a friend's house when I was 11 years old and then collecting everything with a purple L on it until about ten years ago, and part of it comes from enjoying the escape these games offer from my slightly more technical job. But most of it comes from a fantasy about striding into a bar and walking up to the first hot woman introducing myself as Guybrush Threepwood, Ghost Busting Stud.

The Monkey Island SCUMM Bar was the first site I ever visited saw on this thing called the internet. A few years later I was having regular email correspondence with Skyfox. I thought it was the coolest thing in the whole world and made my own site called SCUMM. This went very well until I started failing subjects at school. But in a box in the back of some cupboard lies a CD with the raw material used in SCUMM and one day I will bring it back. Oh yes. In fact... hell I'm gonna go look for it right now.

Aububuh 01-28-2010 06:06 PM

Hi I'm Aububuh. I have been a big Lucasarts fan ever since I got a copy of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and since then have been trying to get all of the adventure games I can get my hands on.

I discovered Mojo around when Tales of Monkey Island was announced, and have been visiting ever since, but I only got a chance to join recently, because I couldn't think of a cool nickname until now.

This seems like a great forum, and I hope to become a part of the community. Or, if I don't, then I've probably forgotten my password and forgotten about the site. But that won't happen. Probably.
