New Star Wars Title for Xbox 360 Kinnect
As previewed at E3 LucasArts will release a new SW title exclusively on Xbox 360 for use with the new Kinnect motion system. (formerly known as Project Natal). There was no title for the game given and unfortunately I can't find a video of just that preview, but the showed a Jedi battling stormtroopers with a lightsaber and Force powers in what looked like Theed and at the end of the preview the Jedi crosses blades with Darth Vader.
*edit* found the video: |
Oh boy....Generic Star Wars game with gimmicky gameplay....you just will not believe how excited I am..
|
didn't claim it was exciting...just throwin it out there
|
Any SW game that is being announced is exciting :D, cant wait to see what it is.
And its only on the 360 ....sweeeetttt!! *drooollsss* lol |
because it is motion control, there is a chance it may be Wii as well.
|
Here we go...all the developers will rush to this new peripheral and create games that are sub-par in nature but take advantage of the new hardware...can't wait for this "next generation." /sarcasm
I chose the 360 over the Wii for a reason... |
I watched the entire Microsoft press conference and some of the stuff they demo'd looked pretty damn cool such as the Forza Racing title, and even the dancing title from Harmonix looked nifty and I'm so not a dance game guy. The difference between this and the Wii is it's all done sans controller and other features operate on voice commands as well.

Wish that video showed what exactly the dude in front of Kinect was doing to control the character. This is exactly what concerns me about Kinect though, sure you get motion controls sans accessories, but as a result you don't have direct control over your character (this is an on-rails game).
|
From that demo, all it looks like is one of those Time Crisis (or whatever they are, havent seen one in a while) arcade games where you occasionally have to actually do stuff, but it ends up being mostly done by pre-scripted actions. For example:
1: Pretend to swing your arms around like your holding a lightsaber to block imaginary lasers 2: After [insert amount here] lasers blocked, throw tank onto people. You actually have no part in pretending, you just watch it 3: Repeat, except this time by pretending to be realllly fast. 4: 5: Slap Star Wars on the title, and include Darth Vader. 6: $$$ |
This is a gift from the gods!
|
Get ready for a full year of tech demos after this thing is released...then wait for 'intuitive' controls in-game...just look @ the Wii. Everyone thought Red Steel was gonna be amazing...

From watching vids of the conference it seems obvious that Kinect has its uses, but for the games shown it seemed obvious that while the control input is great, it does have its limitations already mentioned. The Star Wars game is on-rails and the Forza game didn't allow you to control your acceleration and breaking... I think what people see from this video is pretty much what was already stated in this thread. It does seem to be a pretty shallow experience. I doubt anyone will really give the game that much thought when it comes to its release and reviewers blast it for various reasons. Of course, the people who have the spirit of the Star Wars kid within them won't care either way and will love the game. |
Doesn't look very interesting to me.

Meh. Looks like a poor man's BF2 with different controls.
|
I'n not interested in this if I have to use Kinnect.
|
Casts lesser thread necromancy.
These new trailers are kind of hilarious: Although the fact that they don't show any game footage pretty much tells you all you need to know (not that there was ever much doubt it was going to be crap). Still, gotta love Clint Howard. |

Now if the actual game lets you go through the Star Wars movies and just screw around with the characters like that and make your own Star Wars spoof then even I'd be interested in it. But it won't so whatever... |
Apparently you can have a dance-off with Vader though. Maybe it will be like this? Can't go wrong with Meco:
Ah, Rebel Strike. Such a great intro, such a crap game. |
lol @ Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike vid
Brings back memories... 3 may have been "wtf?" but 2 and the original were golden. |
Wow... that is advertising?
Clint Howard is great - I love Tranya just like the next guy. That was a lil funny.... but still, who are these two spots targeting? Definitely not me.... |

looks like a arcade game. i'll pass.
|
It looks like nothing at the moment...

I have no faith in any more LucasArts related media. They don't care about quality, only money.
The only good recent stuff is TOR and the Force Unleashed I (II was horrid). It's seems that all the good Star Wars games were made before 2005 (KOTOR and earlier). |

Dancing Slave Leia? Dunno why they didn't just skip straight to a video of that. I'm sure that would help move a few more units than their current marketing strategy. |
I lol'd hard at the Girly Vader video. Like...hard.
|
Seems like they made the Jedi part slightly less retarded than the horrible on-rails debut demo at E3 a couple of years ago, and the Rancor part is actually a great concept, but the whole thing just shows what an absolute gimmick motions controls are. All those games would be far better with traditional controls. And that Leia head model is just plain freaky looking. |
lol @ dancing slave leia
*sighs* Don't care about any of those other parts, the visuals look great... but what really pisses me off is that because of this game we're never going to get a new Pod Racer game since the excuse will be "we did make a pod racing game, buy a Kinect!" Damn you all... |
I would be more excited if I had that Kinect I wanted for Christmas
|
|
I ****ing Hate Lucasarts
|
I bought the game yesterday for a 11 year old. Only thing I want to try in the game is to play at least once as a Rancor. Kill enough of them in TOR and other Star Wars games, about time to see it from the other side.
