What Developer should to RC2?

Hypothetical - Lucas Arts lays off too many people, and cannot make Republic Commando 2. They have to contract out to make it. What Studio/developer should get the privilage of making a true Star Wars shooter?

RC-3556 01-03-2011 04:19 PM

Not Activision, not Treyarch, Bungie could do a good job, DICE wouldn't be bad, EPIC would make it CRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAZY, id would make it pretty and long, but in the end Valve would be best. But we all know thats never gonna happen.

SmootheOperator 01-04-2011 09:05 AM

I am a fan of what Ubisoft Montreal did to Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2, both really solid, but under rated games, with really great mechanics and finding cover system.

If it was Treyarch, i would hope they made the action a little more balanced than Black Ops. It is like a several hour long rush, i played for 2 hours, and had to quit because my eyes hurt and my head was pounding. Can't play 6 or 7 hour marathon sessions like i could i high school.

HockeyGoalie35 01-04-2011 09:36 AM

i wouldn't mind Pandemic, but NOT Ubisoft. they're TERRIBLE at pc games......i mean Assassins creed for the PC hasnt come out yet, not till Feb!

SmootheOperator 01-04-2011 10:31 AM

i really didn't have PC in mind when i started this, i'm a console gamer, never really got into PC, played the first couple Hitman games on PC, and that as far as it went. so i am a little biased.

Pandemic did a hell of a job on Merceneries 2, but would you want RC2 as a sandbox game? or a structured mission based shooter?

I have to disagree. I think the reason we havent seen a Republic Commando 2 yet is due to a smaller fan base. If you look at KotOR you'll notice that it has a very large fan base. While TOR is no KotOR III, it's still based on the same era, and was created for fans of the series. But that's just my opinion

I would say Bungie but that would create competition for Halo. Personally I think they should stick with the same developer.

SmootheOperator 01-04-2011 03:21 PM

i know, i'm just dreaming, if someone was gonna make a unicorn, who would be the companies to make it.

It is likely never gonna happen, maybe once another Imperial Commando book comes out, but it will never be a main stage license like The Old Republic or TFU.

HockeyGoalie35 01-04-2011 03:32 PM

^ Traviss Canceled that last book

SmootheOperator 01-04-2011 03:49 PM

she did, but it may be a portion of the Star Wars Universe that Lucas may want to explore again.
At Star Wars Celebration 5, when a clip from The Clone Wars Season 3 was revealed, and a squad of Republic Commandos showed up, the crowd went insane.
If something live like that gets such a huge response, maybe it will be something the powers at be will deem worth revisiting.

michonicle 01-04-2011 06:28 PM

The Powers that be should make a second RC, or tell George Lucas to. I would love to have a second RC. Maybe add in more single player options? Like survival mode? Wait, I'm going a little off topic. oops.

Well, I suppose that couldn't hurt the RC scene but alone it's not enough to make a big enough fan base.

I think we've have seen the last of anything Republic Commando related. Now that all the prequels have been released I think Lucas Arts games are shifting more toward either the old republic or what happened during episodes IV-VI.

What I would like to see is if this Star Wars TV shows gets underway have an entire episode based on the Republic Commando story.

SmootheOperator 01-06-2011 10:26 AM

it's coming, don't worry. One of the clips being shown is a group of RCs around an autopsy table with Master Kenobi lookin at a corpse. The thing must be mangled beyond recognition, because they don't tink even an animal would do something like that. That leads me to believe that the RC story line will come around the same time as Savage Opress

Sorry to get of topic but do you have a link for that?

Chloe Ze ‹bermensch 01-06-2011 06:31 PM

I agree with Valve being the best dev. That way we can count on regular updates that would be at least mainly well received, and maybe get some hats out of it too?

I hope we don't get any hats out of it too

Astor 01-06-2011 06:59 PM

Assuming we somehow slip into an alternate reality and they do make an RC2 (which is the only way I can see it ever happening now), I think that, as SmootheOperator mentioned above, a Rainbow Six style would be interesting, and would certainly expand on the squad elements of the game.

And assuming any of the original development team were still around, it would be far better to let them make it, as opposed to shipping it out to Bungie, Valve or whoever else, but that may have something to do with me finding all of their games rather boring.

HockeyGoalie35 01-07-2011 09:58 AM

not much of a Halo fan eh astor?

SmootheOperator 01-07-2011 11:26 AM

For the RCs in The Clone Wars, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mcM7FFPRU4 is the best. Right from the get-go

Halo is great for single player shooter, but as far as squad based, i can't find anything better than Rainbow 6 Vegas. It has all the things yu need to have a good RC game, besides that Rainbow 6 is kind of a parallel of Republic Commando

Mandalorian Mercenary 01-07-2011 02:28 PM

Hearing the word "Rainbow" makes me think of fluffy pink teddy bears for some reason..

michonicle 01-07-2011 02:30 PM

Nice pic Mando! I agree with Astor. Their games are a bit boring.

M@RS 01-08-2011 01:01 PM

I'd like to see something similar to Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

LordOfTheFish 01-08-2011 05:46 PM

To be honest I've never played Rainbow Six. Now after thinking things over, I'd like to see RC2 have a different playing style than the first. Otherwise it will end up being boringly repetitive.

SmootheOperator 01-09-2011 08:26 PM

First person, like the first game, or third person, like Rainbow Six Vegas, for those who have not played Vegas or Vegas 2, youtube it. I think putting RC2 in next gen consoles, instead of the limited power of the original Xbox would clear up a lot of the cosmetic problems. It would be nice to see it in High Def,

Why would they make it for the original Xbox?

Astor 01-10-2011 05:16 PM

The original Xbox is no longer supported as a games platform. There is no 'next-gen' (unless we're talking about the next iterations of the current consoles).

SmootheOperator 01-10-2011 05:48 PM

corrections:
1) compared to the games LucasArts has put out recently, simply making the lines a little smoother and making everything look a little better, would make the original RC a better game.

2) I'm just saying Next Gen, because putting RC on a 360 or PS3 would have cleaned it up a lot, instead of what was "current gen" when it came out, ie. ps2 and original Xbox

3) Simply updating the graphics would be good enough for me

4) Rainbow Six Vegas is a First person Shooter, 3rd person like Gears Of War is what i should have said

Mandalorian Mercenary 01-11-2011 10:33 PM

Thanks michonicle! :D

Yes, RC in High-def would be awesome.

RC-3556 01-12-2011 03:16 PM

There is a clear line between remakes and re-releases. I'm just scared if RC falls into the 2nd one.

michonicle 01-12-2011 04:26 PM

Yeah, I don't want a game that is exactly the same. Perhaps they could make it a
1st/3rd person game?

Mandalorian Mercenary 01-12-2011 11:06 PM

That'd be cool. Like the SWBF2 third person

SmootheOperator 01-13-2011 10:20 AM

Imperial Commando 1, to continue the franchise like the books, or should it pick up right where the original RC left off, on Kashyyyk, and be Republic Commando 2? Even if it would be RC2, should it keep following Delta Squad? Or should it be an entirely new game, picking up from Kamino again, but following a different squad. You start out as the leader of, say Kilo Squad, you go through Geonosis, and like most squads, you are used improperly, and lose 2 of your guys, you pick up two more, after the battle is won, and you continue through other missions. Taking the same timeline as RC, just following a different squad?

Along the same lines, would anyone want to see a game based on an Alpha ARC, and see it along the lines of a stealth game like Splinter Cell? Or is that just not gonna work?

Mandalorian Mercenary 01-13-2011 12:23 PM

Hmmmm. Interesting idea.

And depending on the graphics level, I would LOVE to see a game about an Alpha ARC!

I believe you mean Anti-Aliasing. That's not supported by the 360, or (from what I know) the PS3.

That's actually a lot of work. Might as well make a new game.

SmootheOperator 01-16-2011 10:29 AM

i know it is a lot fo work, moving from one console to another means making the entire thing over again, i was just saying that making the game a little more aesthetically pleasing, oh hell. never mind. moving on. . .

SmootheOperator 01-25-2011 10:23 AM

First person, or third person? First person is good for shooting, but you can't beat third person for melee combat.

shukkoku 01-25-2011 04:28 PM

Actually, porting a game isn't that difficult. Usually they have a team devoted to coding the game in a different language. And i think Vegas had it right with first person that switches to third person when in cover that would would very well in a stealth related game like Rep, commando.

Honestly with current day graphics even if it bad in comparison to triple AAA products, it would look good enough.

Mandalorian Mercenary 01-25-2011 07:34 PM

I prefer 1st person melee, 3rd person is just too...impersonal. I like seeing my character whack that annoying AI in the face :p

Delta RC-2235 "Cyro" 01-26-2011 07:35 AM

i prefer 3rd person! the story is more epic and you can make better vids and screenshots in 3rd person! if posible i'll try to make my RCII DO mod in 3rd!

michonicle 01-26-2011 10:32 AM

Yeah! One problem though: You can already play in 3rd person with a code, but the aiming is all off. You think your shooting straight ahead when in fact your shooting up and to the left. That's the only problem to get around. Otherwise it would be so cool!

Mandalorian Mercenary 01-26-2011 01:12 PM

Yeah people always use 3rd person in MP. they shoot at the floor and hit me :P

michonicle 01-26-2011 02:33 PM

Yeah I saw that. Why do they do it?
