SW: KotOR II lag issue
Hi,
I'm sure you all have received complaints about issues with Kotor II before, and if you could help me it would be great. I am currently running a Windows 7 OS with Service Pack 1. I have followed the instructions carefully in the thread on how to fix the compatibility issues that the KotOR engine has with Win7, and made sure I back-tracked my steps. In KotOR 1, this wasn't much of an issue. I did receive some lag on the Dantooine/Shadowland excursions as expected, but it wasn't exactly excruciating as it was in TSL. As soon as I start with the Ebon Hawk prologue, the game lags so bad that it's hard to get your bearings, or even move the camera at all. I have tried reducing the graphics settings to the bare minimum, but that barely does anything as it still is quite laggy. Here are the system specs for my computer that are reported by the config test by TSL. Code:

Do you currently have any mods in your override or anywhere else in your SW KotOR II directory?
If you do, then uninstall/delete all of them. Then untinstall the game. (feel free to keep your saved games if you have any) then reinstall according to the SECOND POST of this thread: http://lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=194324 If you don't have any mods, still uninstall and reinstall according to the SECOND POST in the link above. You dont have anything to lose, really. If that doesn't work, then double check if your drivers are truly updated to the current version. >>>>>EDIT<<<<< Are you running the game on a desktop or a labtop? |
Pretty sure OP already installed it following those instructions.
Both games are really old and can't recognize newer hardware, drivers or versions of Windows newer than XP. Most of the time you can safely ignore the video card driver warnings and failures. GameVersion=v2.00.424 - This usually indicates that your game isn't patched. If you have installed the patch with no apparent errors, just go into your game folder, right-click on swkotor2.exe and select "Properties". Look for the file version under the "Details" tab. If it's 2.1.0.0, then you should be good to go. As far as the lag is concerned, your video card is the weakest ATI card of its generation, so you should expect some lag, but not what you're experiencing. Then I noticed "Anisotropy=16". Turn that down to 4 and it should run better. You might even be able to run it with high texture quality, frame buffer effects, shadows and grass. Anti-aliasing and anisotropy are usually what cause most of the lag. Just play around with the settings and see what works best. |
He's right. Update your driver and patch the game. Don't use the autopatcher in the launcher. Go to lucasarts and find the patch and download it manually. You know what, to save you all the hassle, here is a link to the TSL 1.0b patch:
http://lucasarts.com/support/update/kotor2.html (download link is at the bottom of the page) If you have an international version, and not the American version, then you must download the 1.0a patch THEN the 1.0b, in that order. |
Thanks for the quick replies guys...
And jman, if you read the information below the code it says that I already update the drivers. I am pretty sure that I patched the game, but I'll check just to be sure. BTW. Here's some info I forgot Mods: TSLRCM 1.8 2 personal .2da edits which involve classpowergain.2da and featgain.2da Also this is a desktop Again - Thanks guys |

WTF is a "labtop"?
And why would the KotOR games run any better on one as opposed to a desktop? |
My mistake. a NOTEBOOK. And i noticed (from personal experience) that my household's notebooks have better graphics cards than our desktops that we buy.

I was kidding. I know you meant "laptop". :xp:
Anyway, most OEM desktops don't come with decent video cards unless you pay through the nose for them. However, they are usually easily upgradeable, unlike a laptop, and a desktop with a decent video card will game circles around all but the most expensive laptops. |
Hahaha. For a second there, I was VERY confused!
