Dustil Restoration

Yes, the secret is finally out, even though some of you never knew there was a secret to begin with. This is the secret project Iíve told a few of you about, and a few of you know about due to your involvement with it. Essentially, this mod will restore Dustil to KotOR 2, though how much he does in-game will be dependent on which version you choose to install. Before I get into that, however, Iíd like to give a brief background on the project just to give credit where credit is due.

Initial work began in 2011, with myself and Darth Snard as the only people working on it. It had been decided at the time that Darth Snard would provide the voice overs. Yet, over the course of a few months, we both agreed that he didnít really fit the character and he decided to leave the project altogether to pursue his own ventures. Thus, I turned to the ever-reliable Zhaboka, who churned out an excellent performance, despite my constant rewrites.

Even with the addition of Zhaboka and the departure of Snard, not much work went into the project. I did a few things here and there, sent a script or two off to Zhaboka, but it wasnít until August of 2012 that work began in earnest. And then after August, work dropped off considerably, hence why it is a year later that I am presenting this to you. I barely worked on it from September to November, did a bit in December and January and then again put it off from February to May. Finally, in June of this year, I decided to finish the project up. And over the course of the summer Iíve done just that.

My beta testers, thank you to Zhaboka, Sith Holocron and Paddy Garcia, are doing their final run-throughs, as am I, and each day brings the mod closer to a releasable state.

So back to the level of restoration. The mod is setup to have two different installation options; one option, the added content installation, will restore Dustil to the game with new content written by me to make his part more noteworthy, and last longer. The second option, the pure restoration installation, will restore Dustil as close to what was found in the game files as possible. No ďnewĒ content will be added with this option, aside from Dustilís voice overs (none were ever recorded for him) and a few camera angles.

Anyway, long story short, this mod will restore Dustil and should be released, as the trailer says, in September of this year.

Mother of god........makes me wonder what other secret projects are going on behind the scenes!

This looks fantastic FG! I have found a place for all your mods; this one will be no exception.

As far as the pure restoration installation option is concerned, Princess Artemis made one years ago. Have you played it? If so, how will your restoration be different?

Thanks milestails. The pure restoration will differ from Princess Artemis' mostly due to the fact it's voiced - that and I included some cameras, and possibly a few animations, that Princess Artemis didn't.

milestails 08-23-2013 09:38 PM

Good stuff. Will be a must-have!

CptPriceless 08-23-2013 09:44 PM

You have no idea how much of a tease this is to me. TSL hates my computer. If anything, after this, I hope someone churns out a gameplay video of this.

Oh well, I'll be honest amidst this torment... this is fantastic.

Codeluke 08-23-2013 10:01 PM

Ooh what a great surprise!

newbiemodder 08-23-2013 10:24 PM

Looks good FG!!! Glad to see you found your way to finishing it.

Will it be compatible with TSLRCM and M4-78EP?

That's the way that I tested it. Should be compatible.

Yeah, as SH said, it will be. There were actually a few files where I had to design the TSL Patcher under the assumption the player was using TSLRCM. It'll still be compatible with a non-TSLRCM game, of course. A few extra steps, that are described in the ReadMe, will need to be taken for non-TSLRCM games after the TSL Patcher is done, however.

Zhaboka 08-24-2013 03:39 PM

Disclaimer: He's not supposed to sound exactly like Jason Marsden did in K1. He's older, more weathered, and more crazy. Just thought I might try to spare myself having to read ten million comments on the impression.

Christos K 08-25-2013 03:28 PM

^That's good. TSL is what? 5 years after KotOR. Dustil is late teens early 20s in KotOR so he should definitely sound older.

Zerimar Nyliram 08-25-2013 03:59 PM

They restored a part of this (basically just Dustil's presence in the tomb, and your subsequent battle with him) in K2RP, but I never liked it. Aside from the fact that it used a voice recording of poor quality and the actor's acting abilities were very much lacking (and the fact that he mispronounced "Dustil"), I just find that it cheapens Dustil's character in the first game, who found redemption when he found it in his heart to forgive his father, Carth.

But good luck with this project, though.

Good point - which brings me to another point that he should look way younger in Kotor 1 according to that voice. I know there's a mod for it.

Christos K 08-27-2013 01:05 AM

^They didn't really think too much about it did they? Dustil is in his late teens possibly early twenties and is fathered by Carth whom you'd assume is at least twenty years older than Dustil making Carth quite a bit older than Revan which sort of kills the Female Revan/Carth Romance.

That's right so long as we don't assume that Carth like rocking the cradle...

Canderis 08-27-2013 07:43 AM

Well Revan I believe is 40 in kotor. Isn't he?

I do believe so, in which case I don't see a problem with Dustil being 18-22 if Carth supposed to be around the same age as Revan.

VarsityPuppet 08-27-2013 02:37 PM

I always figured Carth was roughly 35 because he knocked up Morgana (right?) when he was 15 or so.

But I guess thinking about it more, that probably is totally inaccurate lol

Although, even if Female Revan is around 30 and Carth is 40, that's not even all that bad.

GeorgNihilus 08-27-2013 03:21 PM

Eh?? really??

Goodness!! definitely seems to be a MUST-HAVE for my Override ... so good to see it's Aug 27th already ...

how about installation for non-TSLRCM users? TSL patcher too??

thanks on advance and keep up the AWESOME work :golfclap:

I always though of Revan in the 25-30 range and Carth in the 35-40 range. If Dustil was 18 in KotOR 1, Carth could have been 39 and had Dustil when he was 21. Of course Dustil could have been younger, too. He'd been with the Sith since Telos' bombardment so to have him be 16 or 17 isn't too huge of a stretch. After all, Misson was 14.

Thanks. Installation for non-TSLRCM users will still utilize the TSL patcher, they'll just have to add a file or two manually after the patcher is finished.

We should also remember this is a universe where its perfectly fine for a 8 year old boy to hook up with a 14 year old girl...

Huh?!

I get the 14-year-old girl(Mission, right?), but how in the world do ou get 8-year-old boy, much less romance with Mission???

Canderis 09-01-2013 06:57 PM

Padme and anakin

Kid gets a crush on an older girl all the time. Example: kid in elementary school has a crush on the nice teacher.

And padme is a bit more than 14, isn't she? Besides, who hasn't seen a teenager or adult who hasn't indulged a little kid's stor/words to be nice/make the kid stop bugging you.

Anone?

Wonderful news. Some VAs were actually recorded for Dustil but they were tossed out with other resources and not kept around. Now we can have him back which is great.

Huh I never knew the voice overs were recorded. Damn - those would be cool to hear. Though it would have definitely restricted the new stuff I've put in for the added content installation.

Snard 09-04-2013 03:37 PM

Exciting, as are most restoration mods. Glad to see that it pulled through even without a real group of people working on it for a while.

GeorgNihilus 09-05-2013 11:26 AM

Interesting ...

No chances to daintily insert a couple of those recorded lines here or there within already planned storyline keeping its sense, FG? :raise:

Having never heard them, I have no idea. The trouble is they weren't left with the rest of the game files on the disc - it's doubtful they exist in any form anywhere today.

CrisG 09-06-2013 09:03 PM

We are lucky they left us as much as they did. Great to see this and other work continuing. Looking forward to it...didnt see a release yet so will enjoy the wait.

GeorgNihilus 09-08-2013 11:52 AM

hoping to try this ASAP

how r things going? any "conjectured" ETA, FG?? :xp:
