Targa isn't supported natively by many browsers. The vast majority of them can render PNG, JPG and GIF though. IE can't get PNGs right though - transparency is messed up...and targa filesize is rather large anyway, so you wouldn't want to use it because of that. If you were just thinking of the alpha channel that TGAs have, PNG can be used instead.
