This comment reminds me of the
Lincoln-Douglas debates. The debates were over slavery, of course, but just as importantly (to me at least) they were also concerned with popular sovereignty (Douglas) verses doing the right thing (Lincoln).
Kind of pertains to this situation, doesn't it?
