I agree with you. However, according to the plot laid out in Star Wars, meaning Episodes I-VI, Jedi are not supposed to fall in love or form any deep attachments to anyone. I don't think Obi-wan WOULD have helped Anakin.
Thus, I think the Jedi position on love in Episodes I-VI leads to heartbreak and disaster. Sure, you're not SUPPOSED to form attachments, but no one is perfect...
