OK, I suspect that your game is not the US version. Reinstall the game from scratch and start over. Sorry about that.
Before patching or anything else, go into your game folder, right-click on swkotor2.exe, select "properties" then "details" and look for "language". I'm pretty sure that this is how you check which version you have.
If it is the UK version, you'll have to apply
two patches;
1.0a, then 1.0b.
