Can't blame the game here...
I am going to assume you're using TSLRCM with a modified appearance.2da, without TSLRCM's additions, indeed causing the issue you face.
Either restore your appearance.2da or if not possible, re-install TSLRCM. Then continue from a save before entering the academy.
