This thread is dedicated to a fan based game project "New Old Republic - The Fallen Empire" that has been in works for over a year now. Project has suffered from multiple rewrites (mostly due to us being n00bs back in the day). Right now it is in a pretty stable state with a large portion of base systems up and running, and we believe us to have just about enough experience to finish the game.
NOR is going to be completely free and open-source (thanks in no small part to the engine we utilize, LOVE). All of the game-specific code is custom and is written in Lua programming language. Artwork is a mix of pre-rendered 3D models and hand-drawn sprites. Music is ours as well.
This is a 2-man project as of now: me (project leader, lead programmer, lead artist and musician) and CptPriceless (lead writer, concept arist, programmer, musician and my personal inspiration). I'll let him tell you the story.

ALL STORYLINE UPDATES WILL BE MADE IN THIS POST NOTE: Colshin, was adamant about the name: "NEW OLD REPUBLIC: THE FALLEN EMPIRE." "New Old Republic" was his idea, "The Fallen Empire" was my contribution. UPDATE [6/8/12]: Concept art has been released! Check for releases under my album - "New Old Republic: The Fallen Empire."
Alright. Since I'm the writer, I'll "write" about our roles in this project. As of now, this project is a two man project, but we've been developing at an unbelievably efficient pace. This is not a mod this will run on a completely separate engine. As such, Colshin is the main engineer of this project; he is in charge of coding the game engine. He's also the head of the project who introduced the idea of creating a KotOR III on a separate engine. I'm the writer and concept-artist. EDIT: Colsh's temporarily leaving, meaning I get to learn how to program. Yay... So adding to my role as a writer, potential "coder?".

TITLE CRAWL: A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...
NEW WARS OLD REPUBLIC
THE FALLEN EMPIRE
The conclusion of the DARK WARS left the GALAXY in tatters. Previous JEDI conflicts have all but strained the GALACTIC REPUBLIC'S resources. Consequently, the galaxy's respect and trust towards the once revered Jedi Council drastically faded.
Conversely, remnants of DARTH REVAN'S former SITH EMPIRE have split into multiple factions, each vying for supremacy over the SITH. Such GALACTIC TURBULENCE has galvanized widespread corruption, inhibiting any chance for stability in the galaxy.
Amidst this chaos, reinforcements approach the surface of ORD MANTELL...
STORY
The game will take place 14 YEARS after Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. You will play as an individual who previously served during the Mandalorian Wars. Whether or not that individual is a Jedi is completely up to you. However, regardless of your class, you will play a vital role in the reformation or destruction of the Galaxy's Restoration Efforts. Not only this, but fate has deemed that whatever path you take will lead you to the widely unknown scourge of the Republic.
QUESTIONS THAT WILL BE ANSWERED:
What was Revan's fate?
What ensued the Exile's adventures after TSL's "ending"?
What was the Exile's fate?
Who are you?
Who/What are the True Sith?
MAIN PLANETS
Ord Mantell
Coruscant Dxun-->Onderon Corellia Balmorra Taloraan
Nathema
Dromund Kaas
SIDE PLANETS Yavin IV
Ilum
Tion
Ziost
PARTY MEMBERS (subject to change)
Karyna Nash
Scout/ Female Echani
Karyna Nash was relatively young when she served in the Mandalorian Wars. She was a Captain before working her way up to a Republic Commando during the War. When the Jedi Civil War broke out, however, Karyna was recalled by her superiors. During that time, there was a schism in the Senate - many officials were reluctant to help the Jedi due to their perception that the Council's absence during the Mandalorian Wars as "betrayal." But unlike her superiors, Karyna realized that the outcome of the Jedi Civil War would greatly impact the Republic's future. Even so, her seniors held her back from participating. As a result, Karyna - like many other troopers - vanished from the Republic military databases due to prolonged inactivity. 19 years after the Jedi Civil War, Karyna - now a mercenary - was rediscovered and secretly hired to assist the desperate and crippled Republic on Ord Mantell.
Master Vargas
Jedi Watchman/Male Human
Vargas is a Corellian Jedi Watchman who was trained by the Jal Shey and survived the Purge. The Jedi Order recognizes him as a Gray Jedi, but due to its thinning ranks, rely on him for the well-being of the Order. After decades of loyalty and dedication to the Jedi, Vargas has earned high position in the council. Upon discovering you, Vargas begins to develop a peculiar interest in your capacity to manipulate the Force. Thereby if you allow it, Vargas becomes your "unofficial" mentor.
Dustil Onasi [Revan LS]
Soldier/Male Human
Dustil is the son of one of the most revered Republic heroes in his time. Although most look towards his father, many soldiers still look towards Dustil as a beacon of hope for the Republic's gradual recovery. Onasi realizes the expectations of his family name and knows what he must do to save the Republic... or destroy it. Dustil has succumbed to the Dark Side in the past and recognizes its destructive capacities. Yet even after breaking away and seeing the slaughter it invokes, Dustil is still allured by the temptation of the Dark Side.
Vinah
Jedi Sentinel/Female Kiffar
Naresha Katarsis
Scoundrel/Female Nagai
Naresha Katarsis is an extremely deadly freelance assassin who has been secretly countering piracy and smuggling on Corellia. She is motivated by the need for galactic stability, and like G0-T0, is willing to utilize whatever means - even if illegal - possible to achieve such stability.
HK-51
Combat Droid/masculine Droid
HK-51 was a prototype assassin droid produced at the secret HK Manufacturing Plant on Telos IV. He was among the few who survived HK-47's destructive raid of the factory - during which he was freed from G0-T0's influence. HK-51 assisted HK-47 on Malachor V and prevented G0-T0 from sabotaging the Mass Shadow Generator.
Viltor Iskon
Tech Specialist/Male Chiss
NOTE: Website is up, but not public at the moment. As Colshin said, we don't want to reveal too much until we have the engine solid.

CptPriceless, your title crawl says "Previous JEDI conflicts have all but strained the GALACTIC REPUBLIC'S resources." I think you want either say "...have strained the GALACTIC REPUBLIC'S resources" or "...have all but exhausted the GALACTIC REPUBLIC'S resources."

Both sound good, thanks. But that writing is more of a stylistic, not technical thing.
Well, I guess I should release our Developer's Blog. Just like our website, our blog has been up for about a year now. But at this point, we've made enough progress where this blog can finally become public. No screenshots yet - deleted. Don't bother clicking "home" in post one to go to the NORTFE website. While it is finalized... I don't feel comfortable making it public yet... But I will post a screenie to lessen your vexation.
legally it has to be free unless they want to have a legal battle to making money off a copyrighted product. Fan Fictions and Mods under the Fair Use Act do have their limits due to the copyright laws. So if they want to make money off this, they need to ask Lucas Arts and Bioware if they using the Kotor 1 game to do this. If they are using the Kotor 2, they need to make a deal with Lucas Arts and Obisdan for this, if they want to make their own product and sell it.
When it's released, will we have to pay for the game or is it free?
Nope, this is planned to be a completely free indie game. I was ready to email 581904321 different people from BioWare, Obsidian, Lucas Arts, and maybe even EA, but at this point there's no need.

Yeah.. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to explaining so I'll just quote this guy. Thanks
this is just a guess, but I'd say when its done. But then again, i admit to not following this too closely, so I don't know if they've given a release date.
528) ... and you make her do it half naked, in undies only. o.O ... and you extend this to your female boss
583 - Your female boss agrees
530) Your boss thinks you nuts for trying to wield a lightsaber
There's good news! The storyline is done. There are a few edits that can be made here and there as I write the dialogue, but for the most part, the skeleton's 100% complete.
But there is one setback; this is a game, not a film... which means that there are some aspects of gameplay that need to be addressed. The most important facet right now is the combat system; I want to make a more simplistic combat system - there are tons of abilities to choose from though so it won't just be smacking back and forth - without rolls or anything random like that, but I'm not quite sure what to pick from. Do you guys think a MOBA-style combat system would work?
