Anyone heard about this before now? 3 parts really does seem like a stretch, even if the director is good/great/whatever.

I heard about The Hobbit being three parts a few months ago. I think it is a bit of a stretch. Before that, it was my understanding that part one would be everything up until the Battle of Five Armies, and then part two would be the journey home and take a lot of creative license, hence the subtitles being "An Unexpected Journey" and "There and Back Again." I'm confused as to how it's gonna work out now. Will part one cover everything until Mirkwood, cut off before that, or what? The most recent trailer implies that part one will take them as far as Erebor, but there was nothing about the Battle of Five Armies. I'm so confused. Even though I think it's pushing it, I have enough faith in Peter Jackson to pull it off right.
Hrm, the TIE fighter thing is interesting. I'm not sure it's really lore friendly, what with TIE bombers and Y-Wings dog fighting with X-Wings and TIE Interceptors, and a frigate (medical or otherwise) being taken down explosively in a single salvo (shields?), but I guess it's more about anime style than adhering rigidly to canon. I'm not really keen on the "under the helmet" stuff with the pilots, but pretty cool aside from that.

I love that tie fighter anime, I'd totally watch more of that and regularly too if there was a lot.
I'm not really interested in The Hobbit, maybe I'll watch it when it comes out, but I don't think there will be three parts, that just seems excessive.
I'm not that much of a fan of anime/manga. I mean, I've watched Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Knights of the Zodiac as a kid, but it was never a medium that stuck with my liking. I don't think Star Wars lends itself that well to it neither* but I can appreciate the effort and he did a great job with it.

As for The Hobbit, that's old news and I don't know where they will get enough material for three movies. Besides, didn't they finish shooting both movies already?
