And what's with that incredibly horrid "Swat the fly and win a free iPod!" ad that makes the fly buzzing noise. I have to mute my speakers when I go to LF now.

I think there are too many ads in general on LucasForums, so when I designed the layouts for the MI, Mojo, and Sam & Max forums, I did them with far less ads. Whoever did those SW forums slapped on about five ads. Not that complicated.

I think in the future LucasForums should try to balance this with just a couple ads on each page be it SW or Monkey Island... the five or six ads we have now per page is a bit more like a porn or warez site than an upstanding discussion forum community.

Yes, audio ads are a grim surprise I think we would all like to avoid here. Also, whats up with the near-porn ads? Not that I care (

) but when I have a parent of aquaintence pass by its "sort of" awkward.

I think one google ad on the top, and one on the bottom would be fine. That is what most sites do.

Weirdly enough we have a Google one at the top, but we've still stuck with UGO for the bottom and any side ads. Would we lose out at all if we just stuck with Google?

Yeah no kidding. When I'm at the library doing a quick check of the forums & email I have to click past some pages quickly for fear somebody will think I'm some perv abusing their computer privileges. ;p

It's possible that you have your default language set to something other than english.

Sometimes. But google has a language preference and I'm willing to be it would serve up language specific ads based on it.

I don't see the point of having three of the same ad, one on the side, and the same thing listed twice at the bottom.

I do care, even though I am a guy, Im trying to live a christian lifestyle and would appreciate not seeing an ad showing off a women's boobs, or something.

Can't you guys just get a bunch of Google ads or something? I notice the side ads take longer to load than the others, too.

I live in England, and I haven't set any preferences to other languages. They aren't in foreign languages all the time though, just sometimes. At the moment the google one is a public service ad.

The most annoying things about ads (since I got FireFox

but always has been though) is we are trying to keep a cheat free policy, striking hard down on anyone linking to these "Get 1 million Credits on any server for Star Wars Galaxies" sites, and then there is a perfectly clickable ad on the top of the forums for anyone to use.

I feel like a hypocrit.

We need more control over what ads that can go on LucasForums I think.

I sent a mail to Google about it some months ago, and they told me we should have the ability to block ads we don't want to show up or something like that.

Any of you Admins know anything about that?

Perhaps they were refering to ad blocking software which they may assume you have as most people have them. Firefox even has a blocking that can block banner ads on websites.

Then again, they could just be being cryptic.

Yes, I know, that's why I felt I needed to clearify that Google said the Admins of LucasForum should have the power to choose which ads that they want to be displayed and which should not, or something to that effect.

It's been awhile since I got it, it's on my old computer. Maybe I should fire it up and see what the mail said again.
