Come play Mysteries of the Sith with us! (each weekend; w/ big pics!)
[Note to Mods, no, this isn't in the wrong forum,
I'm inviting the Swampees, some of whom are old
enough to remember this game!]
Yep, that's right, after 8 long years (Feb. 1998), we're
back playing this game! At least for a weekend or two.
Currently I'm running the server on my Cable connection
(which is fine for this game) at 69.180.215.175
Yes, this is MotS, the Jedi Knight Expansion,
(the JK Companion Missions)
Mysteries of the Sith!
It's like JK in many ways, but also in other ways has
more and better options (many more levels and skins,
new powers and weapons, new gametypes).
It's fun, and I'll be keeping the server up all day
(at except when I sleep) starting tomorrow. Though if
you log in tonight you may still catch me!
And if I'm not there, no problem, practice and bring
your friends!
If you want to practice in JK1 instead, go log into
jk.servegame.com
(in your "join game" and enter that as your IP) and play
on that server, which has nothign to do with me, but it's cool.
I know, most of you guys haven't played in ages, so you suck.
And yes, it does work on modern computers including the infamous Windows XP.
-And YES, we know you have to find your CD's.
-And YES, we know you have to clean them because they're
scratched.
-And YES, we know you have to install it.
-And YES, we know you want the CD crack...
-And YES, there is one...
-And NO, I can't help you find it.
-And YES, we know you have to configure your controls.
Etc.
But the server will be up, and waiting for YOU. If not,
message me and we can get it ready.
And NO, this isn't just some crazy idea that will never work.
We've BEEN playing some big games lately!
Also, MotS CTF RULES!! If you thought JK2/JA CTF was fast,
try this! We had a four man game last night and it was awesome
and tonight we played again and it was awesome!
So join up for some fun, or let me know your ideas...
69.180.215.175
(Click 'Multiplayer' then 'Join Game" and then TCP/IP
and paste the IP in)
Want to know where to get MotS CTF?
Go here: http://www.jediknight.net/ctf/addons4.html
Direct Download: http://www.jediknight.net/ctf/motsctf.zip
And no, it's not big, it's only 1.95 megs, so even dialup
people can get it.
And yes, MotS/JK1 are more forgiving to slower connections.
And yes, it's easy to install (just unzip the "goo" file into your
Episode Folder, no need to run Patch Commander if you don't
want to).
Looking for some strategy? Forgot how to play, and lost
your manual? Go here: http://www.jediknight.net/hiss
(click on MotS in the sidebar).
Hope to see you there!
PS: IF for some reason we have to put a password on,
the Password will be posted here. Just FYI!
PPS: JK.net was down for a bit, but it's back, so the links
should work again!

Yeah! MotS!
Anyway, I started playing a few days ago with Kurgan and Co.,
and it's really great, especially when there are "a lot" (4+) of people.
And it actually works on my dialup connection! Yay for the LucasArts
of 9 years ago! Yay for mini-revivals like this!

8 years! It won't be 9 years technically until Feb. 2007
(MotS only came out 4 months after JK!).
Btw, if anyone was in our games (Lath, te27ch, I finally
got your name right, Master Katarn/Drew, LS_Nick/Gridlock,
Wilhuf I'm looking at you guys!) and got any cool screenshots,
feel free to post 'em here!

I love MOTS. I remember the day my friend got it..... holds awesome memories.
I might play. I never actually played online because I had a ****ty internet connection that barely worked in 98.

I'm very tempted. I have my CDs right here.. but my wireless connection is annoyingly unrelliable and tends to disconect for a few seconds about every 20-40 minutes. This makes online gaming remarkably annoying.. *sigh*
Maybe i'll give it a go anyway later..

Defnitely looking forward to more MotS! Sorry no screens, although I was tempted to grab one after the cargo map.

Ja, I couldn't login this morning either. *Kick's Kurgan's MotS server box.* Is this thing on?

Samuel Dravis.. IT'S UP NOW! JOIN! ;)
Yes next weekend too (barring some catastrophe).
It's not exactly a dedicated server, because it won't
be up while I'm sleeping. I sleep painfully close to my
computer, which is far too loud to leave on while I'm resting!
I'll be up within an hour from now and then be up all
day long.
I'm on central timezone btw.

Two people are in the game now besides me...
It looks like I was hit by falling luggage in that shot... lol!
I'd post pics, but I can't from work.
Btw, the rotation between maps (if nobody hits "okay" at the end)
should be 30 seconds. Thanks for your patience.
The maps are also on a 20 point/20 minute automatic rotation, just FYI.
Report any problems to me via email (which I can check here at work: kurganx@comcast.net).
PS: If you want to play a fun game while you wait for others to join,
you can blast my body off the edge with splash damage and force
me to respawn, and then find and kill me again, etc. Hehe... twisted.

I freeze Te27ch with a Carbonite Rifle.

Te27ch kills me with an Imperial-issue Repeater.

Well considering the current map rotation is 20
minutes to a map, that should work out just fine!

Tip for rusty newcomers... pick one of the Non-Jedi
personalites to ease yourself into the game (and
remember strafe running is faster than normal
running!).
Non-Jedi have preset force powers (or in the
case of the Soldier, no usable force powers,
only "defense" that protects you somewhat
automatically).

Even More MotS Action
Kurgan coming at me with mines
By the way if your hardware is up to it (it most likely is,
it is 2006 after all), I suggest running MotS with full
screen anti-aliasing. It removes the jagged pixels from
edges and makes them look sharp. I am running MotS
on a 21" screen at 1280 x 1024 with 8x anti-aliasing
at 75 FPS.
Also, I am playing MotS through 5.1 Dolby Digital surround.
Kurgan informed me that I can play the MotS CD music
through Windows Media Player while playing the game.
The sound at Sith Temple is flat-out amazing. Exploding
concussion rifle reports and the shattering thunderclaps
overhead, all stirred up with the impeccable John Williams'
score. The experience really reminds me why MotS
deserves a permanent place in the Star Wars PC
games hall of fame.

Erm, I'll get the game by tomorrow. ._.
I'm pretty sure I still have JK somewhere. In a little box buried under tons of crap in the upstairs closet.

Well, except for umm... MotS and JA I have played all Dark Forces games.
(I'm pointing out that I played DF1.)

awesome!
Wow Wilhuf, you gave me a hell of a time back there!
That was an intense series of games. I see you haven't lost
your edge.
I really am liking the Scout a lot though, I gave him short shrift
back in the day (favoring the BH and Jedi), but he really is a fun
class to play (mines, sniper rifle, and more mines!), even if he is
easily cut down by the saber.
What card do you have? I think mine is capable of FSAA
(ATI All-in-Wonder 9600), but I don't know how to turn it on.
The graphics and sound may be dated, but dang, the gameplay
is hot, and the nostalgia factor is huge! But darn if that doesn't
look good for MotS (just wish we had a mod to fix up the ever
shrinking Hud/text).... I want some.
That's it for tonight with the server, I'll fire it up again either
before or after class in the morning, for anybody that missed out
this weekend (or anyone who can break up some of the Monday
blues...). And hopefully we'll do it all again next weekend!
We had a nice group today too (even if I had to
be in an out during the day). We really should have a big KFY
game soon (I'm talking one with LOTS of people!).

just a fun mp level i made specifically for Mysteries of the Sith....check it out!
the best mod for the game is Manowars 3.

Rogue15, I think I saw this the other day when I was going through the files looking for something else (haven't played it yet). Was this dedicated to our buddy Ike then, inspired by him, or what?

yeah i dedicated the mp level to him since
he was the main administrator at the rogue
squadron forums. it's pretty fun,
the catwalk is just high enough, there is
a base on each side too. it's a decent
guns level anyway.

Doh. Wish i'd read this before I got my butt
kicked last night. But Wilhuf seemed to be
kicking everyone's butt so it wasn't too
huminiating.
Actually it was really fun.. even if all i did
was die. I never did multiplayer back in the
day and all i can say is: darn that game is
fast! And jedi are damn fragile.. one or two
hits from a blaster and i'd go down.. while i
was still trying to remember what keys i'd
assigned my force powers to
Maybe i'll try again later with a different class.
PS/ I spent 10 minutes in the carbon freezing
chanber trying to work out how to get out and
back the the main gantry area where i did most
of my dying..

Which name did you go by toms?
I wasn't generally killing people with blasters
(only once or twice) except the Sniper rifle,
which, in the hands of a scout, does 4x damage
of the normal Sniper scoped ST Rifle (which is
stronger than normal ST Rifle shots).
Two good shots on a Jedi and they're dead.
The thing is, Wilhuf frequently used the technique
of rushing forward with the Double swing (often
combined with speed or protection) which is DEADLY
against most non-Jedi since they can't move away
very fast (and the Scout has nothing to really counter
Protection right off the bat except his mines, which
are kinda slow in open combat unless you're really
awesome).
Come to think of it, few people played as Jedi. A
good Jedi Knight is pretty tough to beat, honestly,
but that doesn't mean the other classes don't have
amazing strengths (I really annoyed people in past
games with my sniping and mine traps, and we all
saw what happened with the carb spamming BHs!).

Yeah, we need to coordinate and get a
moderatly sized match going. What's
everybodies schedules for the rest of the
week? I'm basically free anytime, although
school starts for me on wednesday. Don't
have anything planned for next weekend though.

Cool, and as long as my server is up, let's all go there, k?
If you try and it's not up contact me and I'll put it up for you guys
to use.
Also, don't be afraid to join if it's on a map you're not familiar with.
Some of the MotS maps are REALLY underrated, and actually
quite fun once you learn them. Give it a couple of run throughs
before the game and you'll be fine!

Or just be like me and be Bantha Fodder..
@kurgan: I was on as tomSoul.. but i'm not sure you were playing at that point..
it was mostly just Wilhuf and Andrew.. until my MotS crashed anyway.
Wilhuf was killing me with sabers and the big guns.. not sure what
andrew was using.. looked like a 2 shot kill pistol from where i
was standing/falling/lying.
Playing: Link to the Past, Astroboy, Kario Kart, Mario World (Micro) KOTOR 2: Sith Lords (Xbox) Morrowind (PC)

Okay, yeah I missed you. Obviously I was "there"
the whole time since I was the server player, but
since I wasn't at my computer, I was either just
standing there or dead (free backpack!).
I remember playing Wilhuf, Andrew, te27ch, and
Aaron though!
