Upgrading the models in the original x-wing

Is it possible to remodel the ships in x-wing or add new ships to the game? The x-wing looks like it dosent have a R2 unit at all!

Can you give me a link to it or at least some mods to them if they exist?

I suppose you could use the XvT Upgrade on the "Astilleros" site (click the Union Jack icon for the English version of the site), but I'd head over to the XWA Upgrade forums and ask if anyone's tried it first (best place to ask would probably be the "Starting with the R-41 Starchaser" thread in the "Editing" forum).
