Xbox 360 downloading question

Ok, I wanna download the Jedi Temple level add on to my TFU game when I get a marketplace point card, and it's close to 900 mb. My internet isn't the fastest and I'm wondering, if the download was interrupted, could I resume it from where it left off? And, when it's downloading, and I'm predicting that it would take 8-9 hours tops, would the 360 be super hot, cuz I do NOT want to risk RRoD. While it would be downloading only, would it not be in a state where it's working its ass off like when playing Halo 3 for hours?

Depends, I'm assuming you recently got your 360, meaning it has a different motherboard and stuff then older ones, if so, then you'll probably be fine.
In Console Settings, there is a setting you can toggle on and off which sets background downloads, meaning it can keep downloading stuff after it's been turned off, in a sort of "standby" state. Because when you're downloading content, it pauses when you load a game, but you can just download it after it's off.
On the RRoD matter, so long as it's in a well ventilated are it'll be fine, the newer models of the 360 are generally cooler, and even if it did overheat, overheating doesn't cause the Red Rings of Death, that's caused by a Hardware malfunction.
In other words, you should be fine.

Since when? Overheating does cause red rings to appear, yes, but a different amount, i think two rings, which means it's overheated, 3 rings is the RRoD and 4 is a faulty connection or something.

Yes, 3 Rings is the Red Ring of Death. Overheating is 2. 4 is connection problem.

I don't think there actually is a 1 red ring, correct me if I'm wrong.

When the heat sinks are not adequately attached to the GPU and or CPU, for reason of X-clamp or crappy thermal paste, there is a sharp and sudden spike in heat production that is outside of the acceptable heat gradient for the chips which in turn shuts down the 360 and throws up a general hardware fault, i.e. red ring of death.

Fair enough, but that doesn't include just general overheating from being on too long, does it?

Ouch, I haven't gotten it, but I did have a problem where no games would load, so I sent it in, got it back in two weeks, haven't had a single problem with it since, thankfully

Yes.

On my first playthrough of Mass Effect. Could not wait to continue playing so I went to Target and purchased another that night. Now I have a spare in case it happens again.

Thanks everyone for the good info. One more question, is it true that when you download something, like what I'm going to dl, can you start the download, maybe get to about 100 mb, and then cancel it, turn 360 off, go do something else and then later resume from where you left off when you come back from letting the 360 cool down? A friend from one of my classes told me that you could resume downloads from the XBL Marketplace, but as in like interrupted connections. Can you do what I said an cancel and resume at any time?? I'm paranoid because I really don't want RRoD ever, even if my 360 is only about what, a week and a half old.

Yeah you can stop and start the download.

BTW, what model is your 360? Look at your power brick sticker and tell us what the Wattage consumption is.
It'll be a line that says something like Output DC: 150W.

You most likely have a Falcon chipset which are fairly safe but can get red rings. If you are lucky enough to have one of the new Jaspers I wouldn't worry about a RROD at all.

I got 175W so I got a Falcon I guess, but the newer model of it I hear, right? There's a 203W and a 175W I think, but I'd love a Jasper.

Confirmed.

I'm guessing the higher the wattage consumption, the higher the risk of overheating? Mine is a 203. Amazingly, I've had mine for over two years now and the only problems I have with it are that memory slot B's door is broken and sort of just stuck inside there and the disk tray is always stuck so I have to rapidly tap it with my finger for a minute to get it to open...or thirty minutes if I ever let it close without a disk in it.
