Hard to draw over lines that aren't there. This isn't Andy Capp.

Actually, now that I think of it, it would make a large but very simplified view of Plunder Island. Still, might look "artistic" if it was done in the right way!

It would probably be easier to kidnap Bill Tiller though.

Oh, if you do that, don't forget to tell him to end A Vampyre Story 2 in a less abrupt way. That really kinda killed it for me.

Bound only by the paper thin wrapper of mortality, a soul here lies, struggling to be free, and so it will thanks to a bowl of bad gazpacho and a man named Calavera!

I broke down and ordered a canvas of the FOA clean poster. If their site is to be believed it should be here in 2 days or so.

For those that might be interested: Printing posters is pretty expensive, but PosterXXL currently have an offer on where your first 30cm x 40cm poster is FREE! That's what I decided to do. I know these posters aren't going to be massive, but instead I ordered two 30x40 prints for a grand total of 10 GBP (inc. shipping).

Although Laserschwert did an awesome awesome and totally awesome job, I decided to "improve" his work for my 30x40 prints. So if anyone is interested (the files are smaller, for one), here are "my" versions of Laserschwert's (and Steve Purcell's) incredible work.

I'm sure most people won't be interested, but if you want something a little more "tasteful" in size (or, perhaps most importantly, a lot cheaper to get printed) here are the files I created:

http://www.thunderpeel2001.com/poste...keyIsland1.jpg
http://www.thunderpeel2001.com/poste...keyIsland2.jpg

For those that are still interested: I "improved" these by firstly resizing them to the size that I wanted, while upping the resolution to from 200dpi to 300dpi (it would be a shame to waste the extra detail added by LS). I also colour managed/corrected them in CMYK (which is what printers actually print in, so it gives you a much better idea of what the final product will look like). (FYI: All artwork you see on DVD cover, film posters, magazines is supplied to printers as 300dpi CMYK documents.)

I've attached a preview of the close-ups of some of the colour changes. Laserschwert's (on the right) has a kind of browny-muddy "black", whereas I've removed this tone to improve the overall contrast of the image. To be honest it's probably only something that a graphic designer would notice, but if you're anything like me it would bug you

I thought they might be of use to someone!

The contrasts look good, although I think a bit too dark now. Black paint on canvas isn't entirely black, and I've added some texture that now got lost in your dark areas. Tell me how it looks when printed!

By the way, I assume that most poster-services print in RGB (because they print digitally). PosterXXL says so in the FAQ (at least on the German page):

Quote:
Which color-space should my images be in?

Please send your images in RGB- or sRGB-color-space for best results. All other color-spaces will be converted to RGB. This may lead to color discrepancies. Complaints because of these discrepancies are not possible.
(translation by me )

Huh? You can't "print in RGB"... it's technically impossible. Weird. Even digital printing is done in CMYK. RGB is an "additive" process because our monitors are backlit. Meaning you can get many colours that it's impossible to print without using special inks (such as Pantones), but also that R0 G0 B0 equals BLACK. As paper is white (or whatever) by default, CMYK is a "subtractive" process, meaning C0 Y0 M0 B0 equals WHITE (or the colour of the paper stock). It's just simply not possible to print in RGB.

If, as a designer, you sent some RGB artwork off to a professional printers, you'd get into serious trouble with your boss... It's a very amateur mistake.

How weird...

Edit: The FAQ (or at least the English FAQ) makes no mention of RGB or CMYK, but it does say, rather worryingly:

Quote:
What resolution do you print at?
We print your poster at high resolution. You can achieve optimum quality for your image if it has 100 dpi at the selected format size (such as 60 x 45 cm).

What resolution must my image have?
The higher the resolution, the better the image quality. However, file size also increases at higher resolution. Using the special posterXXL optimization of the files, we even achieve good quality in large format prints made from images taken with a 2 megapixel camera. Please remember, however, that the quality of a poster is determined by the resolution, and we do not accept responsibility for complaints caused by insufficient resolution.
Which makes me think my money would have been better spent elsewhere... doh!

LS, I'll let you know what they're like when they arrive...

Hi!

Found this great thread today, love the artwork. For anyone living in Sweden reading this, I recommend poster printing with crimson.se, they charge 25kr (~2.50) for high quality 30x40 prints. Larger sizes are also great priced. (I'm not affiliated, just a happy customer)...

Now, almost on topic (since the thread is named "LucasArts Posters"). I made a poster with covers of almost every LucasArts and Sierra adventure game ever released as a gift to my brother a while back. Maybe some of you will like it. I can post it in high res if anyone is interested:

**** yeah.

There are a few small white spots but it's not very noticeable. I'll be getting more sooner than later. Now I just have to figure out where to mount it.

Very nice. I'll have to go and buy some mounting hardware soon to replace the jury rigged wire hanger I ended up using.

Should I get any more, I can probably fit 2 here.

Maybe one here.

Thanks Laserschwert, my room's looking much better.

It goes alright with the blue walls.

But yeah dude, you clearly need to fill in that space with some Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island.

Well I got mine back. The blacks are fine, but the colours are way too ramped up for my tastes... Pretty annoying. The blue sky on MI2's background is too deep and therefore lost.

I blame the printers

Still, it's great to have these on my wall! Thanks again, LS! (Any chance of an MI1 without the logo on it? )

Edit: Just thought I'd mention... You can only really see my CMYK'd versions in Photoshop. Windows will not render the colours correctly.

I think there wont be a logo-less MI1 poster for a while, since currently there is no access to a clean copy of the poster, If its anything like MI2 it will need that.

Yup. You're absolutely right, I made the whole thing up. I'm not a professional graphic designer with years of print experience at all. And you CAN print in RGB.

Does anybody know if there is a higher resolution of the back cover of MI2?
I'd probably become a murderer to get this as a poster in my room. It looks so awesome. If it's possible to make it someway, I beg you Laserschwert to do so.
There has been an auction some time ago, but I guess none of you has made the deal. If you don't know what I'm talking about look here: http://forums.vintagegaming.org/showpost.php?p=74247

Anyway the work you did is just awesome. I'm intending to make a poster of the MI2 front cover. You are a great man.
Thanks a lot and best wishes from Austria.

I think the issue is that while its possible to contact the person who won the auction, trying to get them to scan it might be slightly more difficult.

Thanks for all the great posters! Awesome! Yikes! /goes to the poster printer shop/

I was wondering if any of you know where to find hi-res in-game artwork of MI 2 (or MI 1). I once got a copy of the inner screen of Captain's Dread ship in "modern wallpaper" resolution, it was quite good. But I cannot remember where did I found it. Could you help me?

edit: now I think these were on Lucasarts 20th anniversary website. That seems currently down... has any of you saved the artworks?

The inside of Wally's workshop from MI2 is printed on a double spread (two A4 pages) in the "Rogue Leaders" book. But because of the crease between tha pages it's impossible to scan.

Here are the others I know of:

You have saved me for the second time, Laserschwert! I don't speak english enough to be able to express my honor! Thank you so much!

p.s.: if I remember well, this is the originial resolution from the site, isn't it?
((p.s.2.: still cannot understand why new web technologies have to kill everything what was good on the internet?... is the new site really better... why has the 20th site gone... ))

Welcome to the forums, naxa!

I agree that the new LucasArts site isn't nearly as good as their last one. It's all style and no substance.

I must get this Rogue Leaders book...

Unfortunately I don't own a camera, but I did find the time to simulate what I received...

This is what I sent:

This is what I got back:

Yup, it's not all that close, is it? Damn lousy printers. I think this is the result of their "special processing" of images that are sent to them. It looks like the type of "enhancement" someone would apply... up the colours and contrast!

I'm sure they're great for your holiday snaps and all that, but not if you know precisely what you want. I should have got them printed at one of the companies we use... doh. Nevermind, I still enjoy them, even if they're not perfect!
