I'd use ScummVM if I were you. I replayed CMI last year with it, and it was great because it slightly smooths the graphics — albeit not as blatantly as it does with MI1/MI2 — so text and stuff is a bit less pixellated, so long as you select one of the smoothing filters in the ScummVM options.
I can't think of any possible reason to
not use ScummVM seeing as it's specifically designed to solve compatibility issues.
