Also the reason this is so is that there is a limited number of body model slots available in the Kotor's, K1 especially so the Revan armor slot is the most obvious/convenient to use.
The slots are basic clothes and the various armors like 9 types and one jedi robe slot plus Revan's armor slot, that's it in K1. TSL adds one more robe slot, plus a rarely used space suit slot, and the dancers outfit slot. That's just from memory, there might be more or less it has been a while for me.
