Karen Traviss (un)official thread
Seeing as there has been so much debate about Karen Traviss on these boards, I thought that I should put a debate thread in here, seeing as we all have an opinion on the Republic Commando and Imperial Commando author. Please move this if needed Astor.

Glad someone thought of starting this
I personally think she should've finished the series, she could have always found another publisher or something.

Yeah, although there aren't many publishers that will agree with star wars books.

My opinion of Traviss is well documented throughout this forum, but I'll clarify it a little - I have no problem with people liking her work, but it's not for me.
I liked the first few Republic Commando books, but her other work in the Star Wars universe was unforgivable, not least because she gladly admitted never having read a single book or even watched the damn films before writing about the universe at large. This lack of knowledge was plain to see right from the start, beginning with her 'only 3 million clones in the galaxy' claim.
There's something very wrong with an author writing for with no knowledge of how large the lore for it is. It's not entirely her fault, but her bragging about not knowing anything about Star Wars certainly did her no favours.
Although the worst thing by far was her insulting behaviour towards fans who disagreed with her - calling them 'Talifans', and equating anyone who defended the Jedi with the Nazis.
Criticism is part of being an author, especially a Star Wars author - that kind of behaviour is just unacceptable, and unbecoming of anyone who wants to be considered a serious author.

That wouldn't be possible - Lucas Licensing has an exclusive contract with Del Rey to publish anything with Star Wars on it.

Karen Traviss: Jedi are bad and evil because I say so. Mandalorians are good and the best because I say so.
I think that explains what I think of her books.

Although she painted Jedi in a very bad light, and she did get a bit extreme she taught us a lot about Mandalore, and afterall, mando'ade are awesome.

Karen Traviss is a terrible author who can't take any amount of constructive criticism without flipping out. She turned Mandalorians into a bunch of generic space marine characters which is pretty much all she writes, and probably gets off on it. Also, her work on LOTF contributed to it being even worse than DN.
tl;dr Karen Traviss is a big, stupid, PMSing baby who can't seem to write anything but homoerotic stories about space marines.

They are because she says so. She made them a bunch of Mary Sue's. As for the Jedi, I better not get started...

Well, i'm on the second book so far (Triple Zero), and till now the book is very good. Showing their past and all this things (Skitara, Jango, etc...). The only thing i really don't like is that military pression you know. Like the guys said before, she transformed the Mandalorian Warriors (one of the coolest guys in SW universe) in Marines, and that sux a lot. But the story regarding Omega Squad, Delta Squad, Etc.. is nice. I like Etain too, despite shes an unexperienced Jedi.

Sorry Astor for that. BTW she did not critisize the jedi in her TCW books, and the RC books were from the viewpoint of mandos and clones

I admit that she was not the correct writer for anything other than CW books,GOW and Halo, and the thing she did with Boba Fett was bang out of order.

I dunno, the Boba books were good. Specially Bloodlines, I read it once, then skipped through it again to all the parts with Fett in it

Well it makes sense...I mean, it's quite possible to recieve a bone transplant from a relative (in this case a clone) and survive. But yeah, I see where you're coming from.

her books
I read one of her books. It was okay; it wasn't the best book I've read.
After playing RC I wished she had written books concentrating more on Delta Squad. And what about Sev? I know she said something like she had nothing to do with that, but it would be nice to know what happened.

I totally agree. Sev and Scorch's convos were hilarious. And Scorch is funny on his own. My favourite line by him: "Something nailed the leader! Can I be in charge now?"

I loved
Scorch: Man, this place gives me the creeps.
Sev: Ah, Scorch... Nothing better than a jungle hunt. Hiding in the bush, putting a plasma bolt through a hostile's cranium...
Sev: Makes me feel alive.
Scorch: Okay, now Oh-Seven's giving me the creeps.

I found that funny as well. Here's some more I liked:
Scorch: I think we may have to blast our way through that... And I'm *not* just saying that because I love to blow stuff up.
Sev: Yes, you are.
i loved this one:
Scorch: [after killing a Geonosian] Hey Sev, this one looks like your mother.
Hilarious!
