Losing sound when pressing F1, Win 7 64

Apologies if this is answered elsewhere - I've looked and couldn't find anything.

I've managed to get the game running under Win 7 64, and all seems well until the first time I press F1. Then I lose all sound, and it won't come back. The game still plays, but in spooky silence.

Is there an easy fix for this one?

your problem is likely related to the hyper-theading problem on newer, dual core machines (which is every machine, these days... )

i had same issue on a duel core laptop running xp. the above solved it.
