I'm back from vacation.
And I tried to make the graphics in MI:SE invisible to see the classic graphics underneath. But You just end up with black. So unfortunatly, it seems that creating a classic version with voices this way is impossible.

Right, I decided I should start work again on my backgrounds fix patch. So I fixed the bridge scene. When I have more scenes fixed I'll upload a new version of the patch, which will hopefully be soon.

Check out the posts by LordTrilobite, he's posted some screenshots of what he's improved to, beware though, seeing the improvements he's made (especially with the loose board at the Scumm Bar) makes you realise how much of a rush job some areas of the SE were!
|
YAY! I love it.
I love it. HaHA!

How wonderful to see that smile again. =)
He did fix a number of problems with the forest so far, though is not finished.
Oh, but the best part is...

It's retarded how woefully inept LucasArts seems when they don't complete their work. I mean, I really do like having SMI:SE, but still, they should have finished the job.

Thanks for spreading the love! I haven't gotten around to work on it much lately. But knowing one's work is appreciated is always nice. It helps to wade htrough countless unfinished and broken backgrounds and fix them :P
Khar gave me permission to add his Stan Sign fix to my graphics fix patch btw, so that you don't have to download the things separatly.
Perhaps I should make a thread for the patch on the teltale forums too...

Rejoice!
I have uploaded a new version of the backgrounds fix.
New additions include:
- Melee Island road
- Melee Island Troll Bridge
- Swordmaster's house closeup
- Stan's Store Sign fix made by Khar
- Other improvements on already modified locations such as the kitchen of the Scummbar
Check my first post for the download mirror.

Hi, guys. I'm from Spain, sorry about my poor English.
This's just what I was looking for: fixed scenarios of MISE. I think too that the Special Edition seems like a game unfinished. My congratulations, LordTrilobite.
If you still work on it, I’ll want to help you searching more bugs, pixels areas, or fixing some little pixels areas like some palm trees in Monkey Island… adding textures in the Great Head Monkey’s wooden barrier, that looks very poor, for example…
I work with Photoshop CS3, fixing the photos’ colour, deleting people of the background, cloning big areas… I’m nearly a pro.
There, some of bugs that I finded:
MELEE ISLAND:
- Outside of Chuck and Shop: the buildings of the top of street, they’re the same that Classic Edition.
- House of Mojo: there're many pixels that go up and down with the magic pot at the same time.
- Outside of Mansion: the pixel classic graphics behind the windows looks very ugly.
- Outside of Fettucini’s Circus: in the background’s entrance, the floor is pixelated.
-Hook Island: This’s horrible!! Look behind the house.
MONKEY ISLAND:
- Pool: the waterfall is inanimate.
- Sacred Head Monkey: the totems… and the background’s palm trees… they’re cut in many places.
ScreenShots:

I hope I was helpful.

Haha, man you guys suck. I hadn't even noticed the vast majority of these — but what's been seen cannot be un-seen.
Good job you're also doing a fan patch, hopefully totally comprehensive by the time I replay the SE years later!

Thanks, I don't think something like an unanimated waterfall can be fixed without coding though. removing pixels and retouching backgrounds is just a matter of changing existing files, but making new animations requires the addition of new files.

Yeah, most of the bugs and fixes aren't that noticable. But like you said, once you see them you can't unsee them. And some of the graphic bugs are pretty bad (like the plank in the SCUMMbar kitchen), and while one's at it, why not fix minor bugs too?
A patch like this won't do miracles of course, but it might improve the overall enjoyment of the game without seeing weird graphic bugs everywhere.

Well done. I think, this one was by far the worst. It looked like half done and forgotten about it. Now it looks like a finished painting, as it should.
Can the clipping be fixed as well? It is rather inaccurate outside the circus.

That's easy. Actually I'll think continue with some scenarios of MI.
By the way, I had noticed that saving the files as dds format, they lose quality, and the image appears more pixelated... just a little little bit, but if the target is repair the graphics... what's the point? Do you Know the best saving configuration?
See ya

I fixed that one aswell in my previous patch. Though I didn't change as much. We should work together so backgrounds don't get fixed twice.

Awesome, Trilobite, you are doing the Lord's work :P . I just got this remake and while on the whole I love it, I don't understand these rookie glitches with the old pixels showing. I am really beginning to think that someone actually thought it would be cool to leave it like that, but they were mistaken. Those forest scenes just looked unfinished and stupid. Your fixes are looking great though. I just have one more request; please fix the scene adjacent to the sword master's house. It looks even worse than the close-up did. Especially the lake, they didn't change anything at all there it looks like. I hope the 2nd remake gets a little more beta testing before it's released, cuz this crap is dumb.

Hi everyone!!
Maybe that could be great but at the moment I'm doing other things than spend me much time like learning english :P . I've already finished two backgrounds more. One is Ship's outside deck, and the second's Smirk's gym. I've fixed the carpet drawing some fringes on it and now it looks better.
If I've got a bit of time, I'll submit them in internet I guess. Now I'm working so hard in Hook Island's. I think next weekend it will already be done.
See ya boys!

Here you are. I haven't got any capture of the deck, but I've fixed the elements in close-up and some floor boards that weren't joined.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
By the way, Lord, what software do you use?? Photoshop or anything else?
When I have finished Hook Island's I would like to fix the Monkey Island backgrounds, specially Sacred Monkey Head's.

Alright, and the pic looks nice. Though it's hard to see what exactly has been fixed without a comparison picture. Though I guess that's only a good thing if you can't see anything wrong with the picture, that means it's fixed properly.
And yes I use Photoshop.
If you got some backgrounds done you could send them to me and I'll add them to the big patch.

I noticed in monkey island, a lot of very poorly done backgrounds. like the Canibals village, seens rushed! and the hanged skeleton alson seens poor done, even in the original the water is animated, and in the SE is just a ugly fixed background!

repaint
Yeah, we know, thats why we started this thread, but real meaning of this thread was to repaint them all, not just fix little pixels. Example is on my blog, but as I can see, everybody is just fixing pixels, than repainting whole image. Too much work you think? I dont think so.

Thanks guys, I just finished the game with your mods.
First I was going to play it without the hair mod, but I could only play for like 5 min before I had to download it
There are two missing sprites in the hair mod. One where Guybrush receives the navigator head from the cannibals, and the second when he lies on the ground at Stan's in the final scene.

I checked through the files and found some sprites with the original hair. I don't know if Irishmile and Riot23 is still here, but I'll upload the files anyway.
Here they are, in PNG format:

Does anybody started re-paint MI2:SE art?
Here is the first room repainted for MI1:SE:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/fpj9a6vj5gsw3n9/rooms.zip
you have to put it into this folder:
Steam\steamapps\the secret of monkey island special edition\art\
When I have more time I will repaint MI2 as well

Not sure what MI2 needs done besides the Fake LeChuck's (costumed woman) face being made blue.
There are, however, a couple of things that need to be updated in CMI, if possible:
1. MI1 Easter Eggs
2. Wind-Up LeChuck.

Oh man, there are so many things which needs to be improved...
All backgrounds needs to be repainted so it doesnt look like semi-product or concept art. If you look at Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island, thats how the art supposed look like. Same thing with MI1-2:SE
http://www.adventuregamers.com/gallery.php?id=1489
Characters are fine (for now).
Anyway, I started work on the Bar scene.... hopefully its gonna be done soon.

I suggest adding some depth on these
|
In our Russian version, we wanted to make a feel of the logo being drawn on the wood, not floating above it. So we took MI2:SE Stan's logo as an inspiration and decided to make it... not... so... new.
IMO, the result is nice enough.

I think you missed the second most irritating issue (after the unforgivably bad sign) with Stans. Look at the window for the sales office in the original, and compare it to the remake.
In the original, it's the kind of window a salesperson talks to you out of. It's open and you can see the interior walls (the angled wooden boards). It's nicely lit in there and looks welcoming.
In the remake it's simply boarded up, appearing abandoned.

Yep, but I still think the priority should be "the missing ravine" in the Melee Island forest. Hope someone will fix it soon.

All this fixes are really great and nice but I would like to see someone making a mod that fixes the "dot" problem in SE mode. In classic mode I can skip every single line of dialogue with "dot" key if I want, but unfortunately not in SE mode.I really don't understand this not skippable dialog\fmv\game producer logos in some games. First time playing, it might not be a problem, but at another playthroughs it gets really annoying.

This project seems discontinued. I'd like to fix the missing ravine in the melee island forest by myself. Unluckily it's not very clear to me from other topics about the utilities I have to use to do that. Hope someone could help...
Here are the most evident parts that should be fixed imho:
(taken from monkey island explorer)

Your Guybrush is way better, but his hair still looks like if it's made out of plastic. Your Elaine looks as good as the original SE version, but is more true to the original. And your LeChuck is waaaay better than the original. It would probably be quite a lot of work to remake all of his animations in the style of your edit, but it'd be lovely *hint hint*
