Fedoras (Or any other type of hat)
Hi! Remember me?, the South American guy who just kept babbling about unncessary stuff?
Well, I’m (Mildly) back, and with another pointless thread.
My wonder is whether any of you guys wears or has ever worn a fedora or any other type of hat.
As for me, I have started wearing fedoras since I was 15 (against my father’s wishes, who said I was to young; but well...); after getting my first hat at the age of 14, but it took me a while tp get used to the awkward stares of the people around me (even my relatives, for some time at least). Anyway, at the age of 15, I started using them with the excuse of rainy days (gee, I love a nice rainy week, I really miss them), and later moved on to usiong them almost full time. But all in all, I think that I lost my timidity due to them (I have always been, and will always be a very shy guy, but this helped a bit).
Up to date, I have got two laughs at me, tons of stares, some compliments and other sort of reactions from the people in my country.
Now, what about the rest of you?

How's it goin', Virus? Been a while.
I have worn fedoras and own a couple, but I'm not a hat person. I fiddle with them to much. If I have to sit or stand still, anything I have on me I have to use as the object of my fidgeties, so even if I go out with a hat it rarely stays on my head.
I love fedoras, though. They're definitely the some of the better hats out there.
There's no earthly way of knowing which direction we are going. There's no knowing where we're rowing or which way the river's flowing. Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? Not a speck of light is showing, so the danger must be growing. Are the fires of hell a-glowing? Is the grisly reaper mowing? Yes, the danger must be growing 'cause the rowers keep on rowing, and they're certainly not showing any signs that they are slowing. AAAGGHHH!!!

It's great to be back, I'll try to stay as active as possible (i.e., I'm not going to be as active as before, but I'll be around). I am glad to see the forums have changed since the last time, and it aslo seems that there are quite a lot of new members.

Well, that depends on the hat type, maybe you haven't tried the right one...
Oh, and according to Wikipedia:
The fedora is a soft felt hat that is creased lengthwise down the crown and pinched in the front on both sides. It was invented in the mid-1910s. Any hat that resembles the soft felt version is also usually called a fedora, including straw and twill ones. Similar hats with a C-crown (with an indentation for the head in the top of the crown) are occasionally called fedoras. It is usually worn by men, but ladies' versions can also be found.

Indiana Jones wears a Fedora.
I have a cheap one I bought at Walmart. I've worn it out a few times. People do tend to look at you funny.

Yeah, Bowler hats are great, but they are not my style. How do you feel about Top hats?
It's a shame that people don't use hats as often as they did before, but I guess that's what fashion is like.

Top hats are cool when cool people where them. But they can be ruined if used incorrectly and seem very uncool. Basically, what I'm trying to say is Top hats are cool when they are worn by Gene Wilder, but they are uncool when they are worn by Johnny Depp. Or me, for that matter.

I agree; however I think it's quite difficult to combine a top hat with anything nowadays.
Now, cowboy hats, I certainly don't like those (don't get me wrong, I think they are just too big; but I've got no problem with them at all).
I think there's a whole forum devoted to people who like hats, but I never cared to join.

I dig those wicker hats, I forgot what they're called though. I also dig those chinese cone hats. I really don't know the name of any of these.
I was kidding earlier about Gene Wilder/Johnny Depp thing. Johnny Depp looked fine in a top hat. In fact, I'm going to run off and create a thread about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, just so I don't ruin the topic of this thread.

I wear a straw hat which I got as an early inheritance from my father, seeing as he isnt going to die anytime soon. It cost him 8 pound from Matalan, and is the perfect hat for the 15 years or so constant gigging i have before me!

I got a black Fedora and a black beret just like the one Mick Mars has on Dr. Feelgood, but I can't wear them because I look ridiculous. I wore the beret once at a concert and everybody was staring at it.

Yeah, I actually wear a fedora all the time. It's a bit of an oddity in the U.S., especially since people of my age group usually wear baseball caps, or whatever. It's become kind of a taboo thing for me, though it's mighty comfortable and does great at warming my head.

It's kind of nice, being the only one in a place to wear one.
What I cannot help to think, though, is that if I had lived back in the 30s, I might have been against the hat. But I doubt it, I reckon it is a great piece of headwear & a very elegant clothing.
I believe that people are not used to seeing different things, and the fact that they are willing to look at some one with a hat strangely, and somebody with a baseball cap nicely, clears it all.
There are old neighbourhoods in my country, and I've seen many people wearing hats there.

My friend used to have a Red Sox baseball cap that he wore all the time, like, every day. It was incredibly worn down and falling apart when he finally retired it. It was too small for him. 
Everyone has a "hat", they just need to find it first. You can wear any old thing on your head, but a true "hat" is much more personal.

Yes, I agree there. Like many objects of our own; we have all got a certain item that we 'worship' for some reason or another.
I'm not a big fan of Baseball Caps, however.
On a side note, I have recently purchased an old Boater/Skimmer, and I must say, those were truly amazing hats.

For me it's all about the beanie hats - i love the way you can jam it on your head as your walking out the house and it covers up your hideous matted mess of a hair cut.
You mean the way the sea stays steady as a rock and the buildings keep washing up and down? Yes I thought that was odd.
