What do you mean? You get the option of setting events the way they were in K1, or change them to whatever you played as.

My point is, whatever you choose, the essential setting of the game stays the same, it just changes some cutscenes and dialogue. Even though you can say that Revan kept the Star Forge, the war between the sith and the republic is over, but they can't solidly explain why. They just say "Revan dissappeared and the sith destroyed themselves in the absence of a strong enough leader". What does that mean? Is the Star Forge still in existence? Did the Sith just stop attacking the republic? Remember, the Sith weren't just sith lords, they were an empire of soldiers and worlds, what happened to those worlds? did they surrender? are they still under sith control? Not only that, the entire Republic fleet showed up at the end of KOTOR 1. Even if after that battle Sith Revan dissappeared, then the republic's military leaders are dead. How does that work?

What I'm getting at is, by leaving it TOO open, it creates a multitude of inconsistencies that can't be answered. As far as we know, the Star Forge could still exist, and why then, aren't they still spewing out death weapons? It doesn't set a very stable playing field for the story, and from the start, creating a consistent storyline is made difficult.

or perhaps it leaves room for more games to close those gaps?

I'm hoping that KIII (if/when its released) will explain the gaps, and holes in the story line.

Interesting thought... The MMO doesn't necessarily mean there won't be a KOTOR III. The reason I say this it MMO's are generally PC games. EA and LA are smart(greedy) enough to know that there are a lot of gamers out there that don't have gaming rig PC's. So unless they can get the game to function well on consoles, they are going to have to make a console game...

replay value wise for me ill take TSL any day.
For me, it has to be Bioware, which is what I think we'll see. Obsidian had high hopes and huge plans for TSL, but they didn't do a very good job of planning out their milestones so they could "finish" the game the way they intended. Yes this is partly LucasArts fault, but it's also Obsidians for trying to shove too much into what they had. The TSL story holds up through most of the game, but then deteriorates into nothing but fighting about two thirds of the way through, wrapped up by an unlikely dialog between the last Sith Lord (not counting the true Sith) and the Exile. The story had to be wound up this way to complete the rough unfinished end product. The darker tone in TSL, for me, didn't fit Star Wars; it's dreary and grim beyond any of the movies or KOTOR1, and 3 sith lords; come on really? A Sith Lord powerful enough to destroy a whole planet? come on; really? You take him down easily, come on; Really? No one on the Jedi counsel can feel the presence of the Sith Lord standing in the same room? She can take out three powerful Jedi Masters with a flip of the wrist, and yet is powerless against two other sith lords that the Exile handles easily, and this "wound in the force" business, it all seems raggedy and like they wanted everything in the story to be Too over the top.
I did like some of Obsidians implementations, and I'm a big fan Obsidian when they were Black Isle Studios, but to me, they missed the mark dreadfully in this one, and I can't imagine LucasArts seeing it any differently.
I would guess Bioware does K3 and KMMO; K3 single player adventure that sets up the events for the MMO. I'm anxious to see what happens no matter who does what though.

Hk, you got one extra red wire back here wound around a spoon. Who did you say's been workin' on you?

couldn't agree more Viper! Take away the Force and Lightsabers, planet names etc, finish the story, and it would be an awesome game, not Star Wars though.

So uhh, how successful do they expect an MMO to be on the consoles? Can anybody shed some light on this? I'm no expert, but I'd think that a highly popular and successful console game would want to take the type of route that would make their product more accessible to gamers, IE; single player.

Online console gaming is popular, sure, but it works best with games that also have a good single player aspect to it as well. (GTA, Halo, COD).

Unless of course BioWare expect PC sales to go through the roof. Which doesn't make sense for a title like this.

I don't know. I'm probably wrong on most of this.

KotOR MMO to be revealed soon. Apparently, the game will be revealed within the month, when The Daily Star (a UK newspaper) visits San Francisco to "file an exclusive report on the game". More bull or is it real?

It hopefully isn't because if it is, I'd expect to see it to tank, people want a KotOR III, not another MMO.

Anyway let's just hope if this is really a star wars mmo, that it's succesful. Makes it more interesting to make a KoToR III which is obviously what everybody here wants including myself. I for one hate MMO's but just because this is set in the old republic age and it's being made by Bioware i want to believe so badly it won't suck

Considering that Speculations for this game have carried on for almost 4 years now i'm very doubtfull because i think lucasarts would have released some solid gold confirmation

But then agian we should stay hopeful.

Such a surprise! Nobody expected (KO)TOR MMO to be in the works! It really was the industry's worst kept secret Seriously, it's how most of us predicted. An announcement after TFU's release (and after it turned out to be a lackluster). Still hoping for a proper SP K3 though

LucasArts and BioWare have revealed, through a postcard sent to the gaming press, that the two companies will announce a new game on October 21. Could this be it, then?

I'm still Unsure as to the level of Multiplayer involved, A game with Multiplayer online elements is not an MMO, It's A game with Multiplayer online elements! Here's dreaming of K3 with an optional multiplayer mode available on Xbox360 to be released later that year on PC...

I find it somewhat amusing that so far it seems only Gamasutra and The Daily Star from the UK have gotten invites to the Presidio in San Francisco. I'll have to research more when I get home as I don't have the time to do a thorough check from work. In any case, it's good to know we'll finally find out with the LucasArts/BioWare project is in just two weeks time. Of course we already know it's going to be a Star Wars MMORPG but we want to get the official scoop with more details!!!

Allright. We got a gamespy invitation to an announcement. That's solid proof.

Quote:
GameSpy received an upcoming media invitation today from LucasArts and BioWare which is more than likely going to be the official unveiling of the long-rumored Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic-based MMORPG. Back in July, EA's CEO John Riccitiello confirmed that both companies were working on an MMO title based on the successful Knights of the Old Republic franchise.

The invite flyer can be seen below, stating, "The Wait is OVER" on the front and "the official unveiling of the game that's been rumored about for years" on the back. GameSpy will certainly be in attendance, so keep October 21 in the back of your minds and remember to come back to get the full scoop on this not-so-mysterious mega announcement.
I will slap GL in the face personally if this is a publicity stunt for a new Monky Island of Full Throttle.

Edit: Hooded figure in background. White Revan robes? Would be a hint to a famous Infinities novel about a LS-turned Darth Vader....

the figure in the background is just a statue. There's two more on the left and right side aswell.
And is it just me or does the font and colour of the letters in "The wait is over" remind you of the kotor logo. Ah well, it's pretty obvious what the announcement is anyway.....

It reminds me of a Korriban statue, but it is in a city type of environment. It also has features similar to those found in Knights 2. Korriban statue in a Nar Shadaa cityscape.

I have to admit, a Full Throttle/KOTOR crossover would be epic.

that picture gives me hope, A single figure... I'd of thought an MMO teaser would of had ships and different characters and wars going off similar to a Star Wars poster

N. Evan Van Zelfden in Los Angeles warns, watch out World of Warcraft. In an interview at E3 this week, Electronic Arts chief executive John Riccitiello said that EA is working on the next version of Star Wars game Knights of the Old Republic, and it will most certainly have a massively multiplayer online component to it.
Component? Will this be similar to Diablo 2. You get to play the game as a standalone, yet you also have the option to join with others online.

That would be epic. I truly love that way of multiplayer. It's more of that 'quick online gaming' feel than the 'zomg my life is gone and I have to pay $x/month' feel.
Imo, it would show awesomeness if they made it an component next to the single player, thinking about all the RPG fans who bough the first two games.

Could be like GTA IV, has a huge MMO component to it but is a single player game. Seeing that picture gives me goosebumps. I love the Force Unleashed story line and the graphical technology. We saw what BioWare did with Mass Effect. KOTOR III WOOOOO

If the words "The Wait Is Over" are not referring to KOTOR 3, then how are they supposed to make any sense?

The announcement on GameSpy says "KotOR MMO Announcement?" I would say don't take that as face value. The announcement is a question, so I would assume that they just put kotormmo as the file name because that's everyones best guess as to what the announcement actually is.

I would laugh as hell if this turns out to be a single player Knights 3. We have all these rumors of a MMORPG, and several of the fans are yelling, "the sky is falling." This could end up being the best kept secret in a long time.

Calling George for a confirmation.

People would be shipping strange things to Skywalker ranch.

George opens a letter, and he finds the picture of a LucasForumite's behind. Across the bottom of the picture, the text will read, "Lego Star Wars This!".

We have twelve days to go, and I don't think many people will last that long.
