Odd problem with XvT

I hope this forum is still active, because I can't figure this one out. When I run XvT (I'm running XP Pro), there's no "host game" or "fly solo" buttons. Only Join Game appears at the top. I downloaded the latest patch from LA, I tried running the game with the ishost command parameter, I tried win95 compatibility mode, nothing seems to work.

Are you using the original XvT (not the one w/ BoP included)? If so, you may have installed from the wrong disk. The original XvT production run had the "master" and "multiplayer" disks mislabeled, so the "multiplayer" disk is the actual "master" disk, and vice versa. You thus want to install from the "multiplayer" disk in order to host or fly solo.
