I seem to be in the minority here. Nice.

I don't know why, but I really like this pic.

I wish I could show some of the cool Xgl effects, but a jpeg can only handle so much.

jmac - the second desktop you posted, what window manager is that and where'd you find those sweet widgets? I was thinking recently that I might find a replacement for conky.

{snip}
It's GNOME. They're not really widgets per se though, as they're already part of GNOME (I forget what they're called, my Linux box is without a monitor right now). Actually, everything on my Linux box was all part of the default install of Ubuntu 6.06 except for the window theme and icons.

I also took the liberty of finding an image of (some of) the Xgl effects you were referring to:

***Edit***
@matt-- I thought you were referring to my other desktop (I've posted quite a few variations in this thread), but if you were referring to the one with the one with the volume control widgets and such, that's actually Windows XP with ObjectDesktop and ObjectDock installed.

He has Xgl (an OpenGL-based add-on for some Linux window managers that's basically like having all your windows floating around in a 3D game world) installed. His desktop is therefore cooler than any other in this thread, regardless of the background.

I used that awhile ago. I almost threw up using it for 10 minutes. All of my desktop icons disappeared and I could barely use it. The windows wouldn't always turn like I wanted them to. Had problems when I used it.

Not possible. Besides, it's basically a screenshot from the series that's been re-colored.

After discovering that most people use "luna" and "windows classic" themes PCGamer mag did a feature on "pimping" your desktop. Several of the programs needed to do the "pimping" that the mentioned were shareware rather than beeing free. I couldn't stand for that so I set out to "pimp my desk to the max" without paying any money (or using Warez), this is what I managed.

Click thumbnail for full view, sadly the .png was too big for photobucket so I had to use Cr[uddy -ed] .jpg.

For the Shell go Here
For the Shells Theme go here
For the matching Windows Theme go here
To get the patch so the third party windows theme works go here
Cant find a wallpaper you like? Draw one of your own. I drew this one with "The GIMP" and one morning, go here for a proper look.

Still to Do: Icons and Cursors.

Yes, I know the gaming section is slim, but my PC really doesn't have space for my games... I want to cry...

Hmm... Ubuntu... With Ninjas!
I'll counter with Matrix:

It's this wallpaper combined with ZMatrix, so I can get any wallpaper in Matrix code. Cool, ain't it
