Question

Keyan Farlander, where do you live? My family lives in a small town called Colmar Manor, in Maryland. Know where that is?

BTW They're OK, I checked already.

<small>DAMMIT! The UBB just ate my half-hour-to-type post.</small>

Trying this again.

Niner, glad to hear you're all right. Is there anyone else we should be worried about (Gunner, you're the guy with the map)?

That's the way I've been feeling; This was a planned operation.

Alright, you've crippled North America's economic base for (at least) the next 24 hours (Canada isn't self-sufficient; no matter what we may like to think), you've effectively disabled the Pentagon, cast a pall of paranoia over the US military and government, and tried to blast the White House. (Was there ever any explanation of that fire on the DC mall? )

Why?

If these were random strikes, that'd be one thing, but this was a carefully organized assault planned to within minutes.

We have planes, we have missiles, we have LOTS of young hotshots like our friend Rune here who want nothing more than to ferret you out of your hole with bayonets and string you up on worldwide teevee!
. . . Unless it was some psychotic reality-check aimed at showing that even the US isn't all-powerful.

If so, it's backfired spectacularly.

Agreed.

I've been getting an impending sense of doom since I turned on the TV this morning and saw the WTC in flames (about 9:00, BTW).

I've known for years that, if WWIII ever happens, we won't be walking away from it.

With the current state of international relations, global economy, and plain human <strike>stupidity</strike> nature, all-out war between the US and anybody will almost certainly wipe out a significant portion of Earth's population, as well as most of the habitable ecosystem.

That's right; I'm talking about Earth. The whole planet, and everything on it. The US needs to remember that it's not the only nation here. Its actions will affect every other nation. As the admittedly most powerful country, the US has a responsibility to the other nations.

That's what I'm afraid of.

Countries act like people. Right now, the US is hurt, p*ssed off, and not particularly organized.

It's looking for a scapegoat, and if anyone thinks it's concerned with distinguishing between friend and foe at this point, they have far more faith in humanity than I have left.

If evidence is found that, frex, Genosha is responsible, the US would cheerfully lead a nuke-charge to wipe out the whole country (and probably a good chunk of its neighbours), even if the attack was the work of a rebel group of maybe seven highly skilled hackers working out of Lower Elbonia. They want a big, flashy gesture of "superiority," preferably with lots of "enemy" dead, and no-one cares who gets caught in the crossfire.

This situation will almost inevitably escalate, and it won't stop until all the combattants are dead.

Newsflash, people; by then, there won't be anything left.

Actually, and I know it's horrible to say this, but I sincerely hope that it is.

It'd be awful for the US, of course, but that's the only way I can imagine this not leading to WWIII/Ragnarok.

If anyone resorts to heavy weapons and the Rule of Vengeance, it's over. All of it.

Y'know what the real Hell of it is?

If the human race was wiped out completely, I honestly couldn't bring myself to mourn.

The latest death count over here is something like 50,000?, i just cant imagine that amount of death. I very sorry to all those people that lost friends and family there today.

I have an idea. Why don't we send in the Marines or SEALS into the Middle East, have them capture a bunch of those rag headed mother****ers, bring them back here. Then, we tie one of them to a bomb, load them into a plane, and bomb the middle east.

I was woken up by my alarm radio at 6, and heard that a plane crashed into the WTC. My first reaction was "huh, that's interesting"(I thought they meant a little private plane or something at this point). Then a few minutes later, they said anothe rone crashed. Then I knew it was an attack. Like Niner said, it was totally surreal.

Glad to see Nute, Niner, Cracken, etc are all ok.

Now there appears to be an air attack on Kabul, Afghanistan. WTF?!

You want to know what scares me? THIS scares me:

Two brothers torn apart by Chaos.
While the fortress endures,
The great leader will succumb.
The third big war will begin,

There is no evidence to say it was us! There has been fighting going on there for a while between 2 of the major sects. The leader of one was severely woujnded or killed yesterday.......SIMMER DOWN

After the bombing in DC, everybody had to evacuate and had the whole millitary morale and Fire Fighter department take action.

So we got the whole public going north/south Highway 95 while the millitary gets in with no problem.

(That has to be the biggest traffic jam since a man took about 6 hours to jump off a stupid bridge 2 years ago...)

Soothsaying aside, this could get very serious very fast. So I say don't do a half job, do what the ancient Romans did to troublemakers: get every last one of them. Babies of terrorists grow up to be tomorrow's highjackers.

I doubt very much there is anything to that.

In any case, I believe that Bush has stated that the US has nothing to do with the bombings.

By the way, I heard the plane hijackers were armed with nothing but razor blades. Anyone else hear that?

Interesting note. A friend of mine had her birthday today. We started the in-class party just as the announcement came over the PA system.

I think the worst is over. If there's a terroist attack, it would happen at different places at the same time.

Im surprised it didnt hit the Capital or the White House though.

You know, the Afganis HAVE been fighting a civil war for years now. The rockets were being fired by the "rebels" that are fighting against the Taliban. Not the USA.

I have nothing more to say than that has already been said. This still hasn't sunk in on me yet, it's just a huge tradegy.

SOMEONE is gonna TOASTED for this. I have never wanted to be in the military MORE than today.

Zaarin checking in here (Sith, I hope you don't mind me using this name for now, for reasons that I won't go into in this thread).

Dear god, this is awful. My heartfelt condolences go out to anyone who was affected.

You know, it's stuff like this that makes me thankful for living where I do. I'm in a backwater place, that nobody really has a grudge against.

Don't get me wrong here, but I severely hope this doesn't get, for serious want of better phrasing, blown out of proportion. This is not the start of a war, this is not a sign that the US should go and randomly nuke parts of the middle east. But, if some fanatical person somewhere in the system decides to, it just could lead to a situation along the lines of FB's post.

Also, I honestly don't get why everyone is suddenly pointing the blame at Bin Laden. There's no evidence of any kind at the moment who was responsible. Hell, it could have been practically anyone. Doesn't have to be a large terrorist organisation, just someone who knows how to hijack a few planes, which, quite frankly, any average citizen could do with some planning.

This was a terrible tragedy, but I just pray that someone somewhere doesn't take this as an excuse to bomb/invade/nuke anyone they don't like. This is not the beginning of a war, but it could become one, if a few people out there decide to be bloody stupid.

Again, my hopes and prayers are with everyone who was affected in any way, and I only hope that this doesn't escalate too far.

Zaarin

We are not bombing Afganistan...sorry if you got the idea we are because MSNBC and CNN camera crews don't know squat. they also thought a plane landed at camp david and a car bomb hit the state departmetn, neither happened.

and if we were bombing Afganistan they would deserve it anyway, they are harboring a fugitive from internatonal law. someone implicated in many other attacks including the bombings of 2 US embassies so I say bomb 'em into the stone age and then let russia have them.
