Dark Forces II Level 1 Problem

In dark forces II level 1, there's the door where you have to activate a switch to open it, and beyond the door is a hollow abyss and you can see another platform with an enemy there, but I can't jump across to it. This is also the place where you can jump down to a lower level and going up a lift to access a secret area. Well, I read the walkthroughs and they all say there's some kinda switch to call an elevator... or a red control room... but god I see nothing like that. I just don't know how to proceed. Please help, thanks in advance!

The red control room comes later. Just walk in the general direction of the platform, and eventually you'll find an elevator tucked away behind a corner. Walk on to it and enjoy the (short) ride up.

But where exactly is the elevator? There's nothing but air...

Take the other door. You cannot cross that abyss from that room.
