My favorite album of the late '90's/early 2000's, stolen out of my car seat maybe 7 years ago, has arrived via Amazon so that I can once again play the plastic of the disc.
"Stakes is High" by De La Soul. I am a big fan of the Tribe/Roots/De La east coast vibe, and played it all to deaf in my younger days. "Stakes" to me is the best of De La... dead serious, straight talk, all business. And good.

For some reason I've felt like bringing back out some Killswitch Engage. Great stuff, especially their newest album, As Daylight Dies .

My favorite song of the moment is
Bye, Bye Beautiful by Nightwish. It's a song about their old lead singer. They supposedly kicked her out because she was becoming too greedy. I really don't know. Anyway, I think it's a great song!
Here is the video:
Nightwish is a band from Finland. In general, I'm a pretty big fan of Scandinavian bands.

It's been all Dixie Dregs, alll the time since I learned that keyboardist T. Lavitz died this weekend.
He was a monster, probably my favorite keys player of all time, and one of the easiest people I ever had to work with professionally.

Indeed...although the artists themselves dislike the whole grunge label set on them by the mainstream media.
Personally I've always thought It's a great word to describe the
sound , it's definitely grungy. Even though the music can be vastly different and inspired by different genres altogether, take Nirvana for example who were inspired by punk rock whereas Alice in Chains have their roots in hard rock and blues.

My son and I went to the Star Trek Convention in Chicago this past weekend. I picked up the CDs of music that the actors sang at the "Rat Pack" concert they hosted on Friday night. The songs were absolutely hilarious and the actors gave a terrific performance--I was rolling laughing. Max Grodenchik ('Rom' on Deep Space 9) has done the album "Max Tonight", and Vaughn Armstrong (various aliens on the Star Trek series) and Casey Biggs ('Damar' on DS9) have done a couple albums as the "Enterprise Blues" band.
I'm enjoying all 3 CDs and laughing my butt off again.

Warrior soul blazes through the land of frost and snow! This song is a ridiculous combination of total lyrical lameness, catchiness and musical awesomeness... Had to listen to it the first thing in the morning.
