You might like this, or you might not.
First of all, hello to all users of this forum!
Second, sorry if you can't stand people plugging their stuff, but since my plug is at least indirectly Monkey Island-related, I believe it merits a mention here.
Here it is: August Jessor, my webcomic, is out now, and since the start of the project, I've thought that if anyone likes the comic, it will be people who like classic adventure games in general, and Monkey Island fans in particular.
Actually, a little known fact about the webcomic is that it was born out of the script of a PC adventure game of the same name. The game project fell through, but the script lived on in comics format. And, although this is the first mention of that fact anywhere, many people have commented that the comic feels like an adventure game in comic format - with Monkey Island being the game that most people associate the comic to.
What do you think?

Wow! This is actually really good! Very well written and original. The art is something of a treat, especially considering that it is a webcomic. This looks very promising, I'm going to try and keep up with the issues!
...How do you pronounce words with ø in them?! On page 6 that character is used a lot. It's frustrating me. Damn you and your ø's! Good comic though

Glad you liked the comic!
The ø's are pronounced like the Queen of England would pronounce the letter 'u' in 'Turd'.

Yes, well, you got me. But, as long as you're here, Kjølen, you might as well tell me what a ghost is in Danish. Is it spøke?
Now, I know I'm making the assumption here that you are Danish. Also, I am displaying a considerable degree of laziness in not just finding that out by myself with the help of an English-Danish dictionary.

That is pretty lazy of you since English - Danish dictionaries are so readily available... I don't think he is Danish

Actually Kjølen isn't Danish, he just liked the name so much he couldn't get rid of it.

Well, I live in Minnesota. That's kind of like Norway.
I use the name Kjølen from the Norwegian mountain range... in Norway. You have to admit, it's much better than "Guybrush M-T".
Danish, though. Damn pastry. DAMN GHENT. *Esoteric*
Carry on.

Hmm... I'd better call Jesse Ventura for advice. I've come to suspect that the letter ø is Norwegian, and not Danish, after all. That's after I saw this page, which is full of names like Kjølen.

Skype is non-free, so I wouldn't recommend it. Try some other VoIP software...
Anyway, if there are 64-bit binary, use them. If there are only 32-bit binaries and your system is a 64-bit one, you'd need a 32-bit chroot with all the needed libs.

Don't you think I would use a 64 Bit binary if there was one? Free, non-free. I don't pay for it, period. I also use closed source nVidia drivers. And what you might miss out on is that it isn't about free or non-free, but to use it for those of my friends who run Windows, and Skype. Yes, and I know it reads the BIOS and dials home. Booo-hhhooooo, so they know my BIOS values and that I have porn on my harddisk. What they gonna do, tell my mom? :PPP
Hm. I think the solution is at hand: I'll use WINE and the Windows Skype thinger.

A sad confession: I used to worry about technology, too. Then I started doing webcomics, and realized that Linux and the GIMP just wouldn't be enough. I migrated to Windows and Adobe Creative Suite. And I'd like to say that life is better, but sometimes I cry myself to sleep over my lost penguin.

First of all, there's the GIMP, then nothing, then less than nothing, then the absolute nada, then whatever.
WINE compiles and runs on 64Bit, no problem I can think of. WINEX (CEDEGA-CVS) doesn't compile on 64Bit systems. They're losers.

Again, you're confusing free as in beer with free as in speech.

Software can be free as in beer ("free beer"), meaning it's free of charge and free as in speech ("free speech"), meaning anyone can read and modify the source code, which, in theory at least, leads to better programs.
To take your food example: The recipes of your commercial microwavable taco is fixed, maybe even patented, you have to like it or don't buy it. However, the recipes in a cooking book or family recipes are free (as in "free speech"), everyone who dares to experiment a little can produce a better, a more delicous version.

Very interesting how this discussion has taken a linux vs. world spin.
I was just saying that I really like Linux, but my work is far easier to do with Windows or Mac, simply because there's some software for those operating systems that do not have competitive Linux equivalents. And that's a real shame - I don't see why Adobe doesn't do a Linux port of their software. CS2 is so enormously bloated and slow anyway, that they could just port the whole thing to run on java, and nobody would know the difference.

Okay, but so far, the GIMP hasn't quite reached the peak of what Photoshop can do, not by far, it took a bunch of paid programmers a long time and a few pay checks to produce that program and lo and behold, you have to pay for it. Function wise, Photoshop is better than the GIMP (and I have used both, so I have a frame of reference) and the reason for that is the best of the best programmers got paid (and thus had more of an incentive) to create this superior work.
And ironically, analogies don't always work for everything, you can sit there and talk about better food all you want, but food isn't software.
