I don't know why you're getting so worked up about it. It's not like they find a tribe of cannibals, or go to see a voodoo woman living in a swamp. Or find out that the beautiful, yet fiesty, female lead has been kidnapped by a crew of undead pirates.
Nope, nothing like that at all...

I could forgive the similarities with the first film, after all, they've both based off the same damn ride, the second film was a little annoying, but I suppose it all comes down to the same thing, but this? If Will wakes up at the end and find out it was all a dream, i'll be burning down the cinema.

If these movies came out 10 years ago when Monkey Island was (more) popular, they would be a joke.

When were they ever widely popular? Amongst gamers, they were, but then gamers didn't have the numbers they did now, MI simply wasn't well known enough at the time and has only in recent years become a cult classic. Had this game been released ten years ago (which would be during the time of COMI) only the people who'd played the originals would have found similarities and COMI would have been seen as a rip off of POTC.

Very true. If a movie of Monkey Island was ever made (which is highly unlikely anyway) it would be seen as a complete rip off of POTC, even though the games were released over ten years before Curse of the Black Pearl was.
Anyway here's a nice new clip for you: Clickety
And another: Clickety again
Lets see how many more MI similarities we can spot and complain about, eh?

*gasp* wow yeah, 1991 isn't closer to 10 years ago than 2000 is any more, is it?
And I did say more popular, but yeah, I suppose you have made valid points.
And on another note, it annoys me how everyone involved is so up this movie's arse, "oh yes, it's such an original movie" It isn't an original movie, it's STOLEN! You bastards!

Not really stolen (I doubt they'd set out to make as many similarities with the games as possible), but then not really original either. There are hundreds of books out there that touch on the subjects used in these movies.

I never said they'd be right. But they'd be kinda safe with it. People "pay homage" all the time. The line between homage and stealing is very blurry.

I hope they don't say that. It would be nice for a Monkey Island reference, though. I would prefer it if they said "we are paying an homage to Monkey Island in this scene" rather than "Oooh, I love this scene! ...Monkey who?"

That would be great. Or if he said "Look, behind you! A three-headed monkey!" to aid some sort of getaway

Too obvious, I'd prefer the second biggest thing only because that noun could be anything.

True.
They could use "undead monkey" instead though, couldn't they? Since they already have one.

Their undead monkey isn't very big though. It needs to be something that's fairly large in size that would cause jack to say something like that.

I tried the same myself, and no, none of them matches. I have to correct myself, it's from 1953, and with Steward Granger it think..

Nope, nothing there by the name "The Black Pearl". But the movie does obviously exist, in various incarnations.

so using Jesus Christ as an expletive is so much more creative and unique than the word retard?
You can't stop me, you can't beat me, more importantly you can never dissuade me. If you were smart you would ignore me. But as you hang out on LucasForum's Monkey Island board, that rules you out. I thought Joshi was a fncking retard, now they're all coming out of the woodwork.

As you appear to be completely devoid of intelligence, it wouldn't occur to you that a common expletive does not require any extra wit to establish a point. And would you please tell someone why you think Joshi is a retard? I can't think of any reason that anyone would hate Joshi so passionately, apart from, perhaps if their argument towards him was completely thwarted by him, or if he has locked a thread of yours, perhaps he refused to ban you? That seems like it would be quite an insulting offence in your eyes since you seem to so desperately yearn to be banned.
Sorry, Sea Turtle, everything was going well until Rye Rye Rocco made his half baked contribution. Captain Jack isn't Guybrush enough.

Why do you people insist on claiming I hate Joshi? I never used the word hate. I just think he's a dunce.
