Did I mention that stoffe and DP probably know a hell of a lot more about he console than I do?

Glad you fixed your bug. Now save moar.

Let's see--givexp, buddha, noclip (to get through those stupid warrens) and maybe for the guys (or girls so inclined) 'money' are the only console codes required.

I usually only use noclip for the Hallowbrook Hotel because it's usually so damn bugged that there's no other way to get through it. Oh, and to get through that door in the temple.

People gripe about the Warrens a lot, but I like the claustrophic feeling that they give me. Try going through them as a Gangrel with warform (Batboy!). They're actually a ton of fun then.

Gangrel is always fun, animalism for when you want to be stealthy (or sadistic), endurance for when you want to take more punishment than Stalingrad, and warform for dishing out pain. More importantly, no "I win button" (celerity/blood magic). Oh, and you might actually get to experience frenzy, which, given your incredible bonuses, gives you that "monstah" feeling the others lack (especially if it happens after activating warform and endurance).

Frenzy can come in very handy, if you get your humanity low enough that its occurances become predictable. Low humanity can actually be useful at times.

Especially for Gangrels as they frenzy easier, and get some nice stat bonuses when they do.

Unless you're into pornstars with idiotic bewb jobs, anything over "money 1.2" looks ridiculous.

I tried it out one time just to see how big the devs thought they could get away with. I laughed at the first increase, and was rolling laughing by the time I got to the biggest version.

I tired to use the money cheat for... money.

I thought my vid card was going out when I saw the result. Actually took me a while to realize what was going on. I thought the cheat would give me money, dammnit.

Seems like the only way to get easy money without doing a crapload of quests to get it, is spawning the rings, watches, car stereo's and such and then selling them. If your into using the cheats, however.

Kinda wish they were a little more creative with the player models, however. With some of them, like the Ventrue, I like each of the armors(why the call it armors when its clear that its mostly leather, cloth and likely polyester for most of the clothing I don't know) for it, but the textures lack a bit. I do wonder why each of the player models have the bluish tone when starting a new game, and on the info menu.

Heather is gone for good if you release her (and so is your possibility to get the best armor in the game, in case you are an equipment whore). Not that I'd ever release her as she seems to be one of the few people whos' screwed enough to actually have a bether life as a ghoul.

With the unofficial patch, you can tell her to stay indoors and avoid
spoiler:
her being kidnapped and killed.
I think the option comes up after either the museum or the the debris outside of LaCroix's tower appears (but it will disappear if you enter the tower before talking to her).

Here, I believe: http://www.moddb.com/games/vampire-t...loodlines/mods

Now if only it was possible to fix the animation problems with some of the models(mainly ones concerning long skirts or long jackets).

Just found out about VtMB, sounds great, I wondered if anyone plays Redemption as well? I will read the back posts here soon and am very glad to have found out about this classic, from the screenies it looks like a very interesting game. I read some references to some sort of release in 2008 but i think maybe that was a book, not sure yet.

thanks for the info about the console and the tweaks. Also for the link for mods. Do we have to activate the console with an ini fix? thanks again for all the great posts here.

Get the latest version of Wesp5's Unofficial Patch (Version 6.6, I think). You won't need the official patch as Wesp has integrated it into his patch. Wesp's patch fixes a lot of the bugs that the official patch missed.

Be sure to choose the "Basic" patch for your first playthrough(s), because while the "Plus" option restores a lot of cut content, it also includes a lot of revisionism so it's really only appropriate for subsequent playthroughs, IMO.

I would choose Clan Toreador for my first playthrough. Have fun!

I remember when I told a friend of mine that played the PnP version of Vampire that I played a Toreador. He told me that once in his PnP campaign his Tremere wore a Toreador as a hat for 3 weeks.

To activate the console, you'd need to edit the shortcut on your desktop. Once you add "-console" to the "target" line, the console will appear when you hit the main menu. But there should be a space between the directory and -console, as in it should look like this:

"[drive letter]:\Program Files\Activision\Vampire - Bloodlines\Vampire.exe" -console

Though you won't be able to use the console if you didn't click on that shortcut to start the game.

A Malkavian playthrough is hi-larious, but my suggestion for a first-timer would be to play it with one of the more sane and rational clans once or twice to get a clearer idea of the story.

As much as they are pretty boys, Toreador are probably a good choice for someone new to Vampire. Celerity is very useful and the Seduction bonus is put to good use.

Never played Ventrue, so I can't comment much on them, but I imagine they would also be a good first choice with their Dominate talent.

Brujah and Gangrel are nice and fighty, but a melee-heavy build can be at a disadvantage in the endgame. Probably better off as a second playthrough.

Tremere have some nice spells, but it comes at a cost. They are not advisable for a first run.

Malkavian as I said are great value, but their dialogue doesn't make them an ideal first run candidate.

Nosferatu definately should not be a first run choice. Playing them in some respects is like playing a whole other game. I'd definately only tackle them after a few playthroughs with other clans.

Well, as it was, it is possible to easily playthough as a Malkavian, if you actually think about the choices. At least, for me it is.

Though the Character "Rosa" essentially tells you about nearly every event in the game, if you can get the references she makes. Such as:

thank you very much for the help and tips, i will be very interested to try several clans, but will have to pick one for the first time. As i know nothing at all about the story, which is advisable? Being a total noob makes it very intriguing i must say, and I do appreciate the info on how to activate the console. thanks will store that info in my notes. So far, I only know about the moneychest command, any other helpful but non cheat commands welcome. thanks again.

I did Gangrel the first time, and it worked well, however, unless you plan on playing as a murderous monster (i.e lying to get people eaten, stuff like that), you won't be at your full potential.

It depends a bit on what you want to play, if you want to go mele and isn't afraid of a challenge in the end game, go for Brujah/Gangrel. If you want to use guns and want an easier time, pick Toreador.

I have been considering getting myself this game in the New Year - looks and sounds most interesting (that Ventrue class especially), but I just wanted to check one thing out - does anyone happen to know if it is compatible with the 64 bit Vista? Just I've had problems with a couple of games that are Vista compatible, but not 64.

Apologies if this has been asked and answered already!

I played Toreador for my first playthrough on stoffe's recommendation, and her advice was excellent. You _can_ play Malkavian on your first playthrough, but since that clan is bat-**** crazy, it will be really hard to know what's going on for parts of the story. You're much better off playing one of the sane classes first. I have a Malk playthrough going now (along with Dragon Age and LOTRO's new expansion Siege of Mirkwood, and Lego Rock Band with the kids--no loss of games there!). After that I'm going to go for Tremere.

Just some tips--make sure to search all rooms and pick up all books. Don't read the books that increase your skills. Save your game right before you talk to a merchant (such as Trip in Santa Monica). Sell your book to him. Buy it, exit the conversation, use the book to increase your skill, and then buy another copy of the book from him and repeat the process until you can't buy the book anymore. Why save before you sell it? If it only lets you use the book once, you can go back to the save and just not sell the book.

Also, computer and security skills are heavily used in this game. If you can't pick a lock, try using blood buff and trying again. If you have problems with a computer and have auspex, activate it and retry hacking the computer again.

You can open up more conversations if you put points into persuade, seduction, or intimidate. IMO persuade and seduction accomplish more than intimidate, so I never bother with intimidate. However, it depends on what type of vampire you want to play. If you want to play an SOB type, then intimidate is the way to go. I also feel being a specialist in a few skills seems to work better than being a generalist in many skills, and the clan you pick will help you decide which skills are going to work best for you.

vampyri_lestat's walkthrough has some very good tips on technical issues that help the game run better, and he has it nicely separated from the rest of the walkthrough so you don't get too many spoilers. It also explains how to activate the console and at the end includes various console codes.

I run the game on Vista on my laptop, and it works fine. However, mine's 32-bit so I don't know if 64-bit will make a difference or not.

Enjoy the game!

Apologies if this has been asked and answered already!
Yes, it is compatible, but only with the unofficial patch. I've run the game on Vista Ultimate 64-bit without a hitch before I switched to Windows 7 Ultimate (also 64-bit).

Thanks Jae for those excellent tips, much appreciated. I will try to be somewhat sane for the first run thru so probably T Clan will be the way to go to start. Really appreciate the advice... and look forward to this a lot. I have a XP system so expect it will be ok with running, but will study the tweak guidance suggested with many thaniks. Grabbed Vampyri's guide and will study the set up suggestions there.

I also have ordered Redemption so may try that first or after... both were a bit pricey but i wanted to get the best copies of both i could find.

Those 2 games are almost totally unrelated. From what I've read, while Bloodlines is almost universally praised, opinions of Redemption are mixed at best and I haven't bothered with it.

You don't have to play Redemption in order to play Bloodlines. I've never played Redemption, and I love Bloodlines.

Thanks very much! I'll definitely look into getting this, then.

Tiny sugestion since you play a Toreador (and not using the +patch), if you see someone in Santa Monica who look as if they have taken more punishment than Stalingrad, be nice to them.

From what I've seen the plus stuff is far less about restoration than it is about random decisions on content changes/additions on the part of the patch maker/s. Hence why people advise against using it the first time through.
