As am I, but most of the movies I see usually are not nominated for any awards. Mainly because they are usually over-the-top action movies and crude comedies. But, I think The Dark Knight will be up for a few. Dunno about Pineapple Express. Despite the fact that it was an awesome movie.

I'm guessing that the major competition against The Dark Knight will be The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I haven't seen it yet, obviously, but it's already getting great reviews and the trailers look fantastic.

Besides those two, I really don't know what serious contenders we could have this year for Best Picture. . . except for maybe Wall-E? That's be pretty groundbreaking.

Yes, that would, which is exactly why it would never happen ever. Sure, I could be proven wrong (Return of the King still surprises me, even though they pretty much had no other choice), but what little consideration I had for the Academy's opinions died out a long time ago. I seriously doubt they would give Wall-E a second glance for best picture, and I have a strong suspicion that they would give The Dark Knight even less of a chance. The day they give a comic book movie best picture is the day I eat my own face off. Benjamin Button is much more likely, if they can get past the sci-fi elements. Anything not firmly grounded in that familiar "real-world" drama motif of their past best picture winners (broadway vibe can also help) is usually given only technical recognition (with the one exception of RotK.) They might consider Wall-E based solely on the social commentary, but it's doubtful. You can expect that it will receive best animated feature, and maybe best sound design or something, but that's pushing it. Dark Knight will get something random like best screenplay, maybe effects. Heath Ledger will probably get a sympathy nomination and might win. If they don't give it to Benjamin Button they'll probably give best picture to something relatively unknown and forgotten, instead of what it should go to.

See I agree with nearly everything you're saying, IG, except for that last line.

I can't remember any time when the Academy gave best picture to something "relatively unknown" or "forgotten." It's always given to big, blockbuster pictures (A Beautiful Mind, No Country for Old Men, The Departed, Chicago, Gladiator, etc -- all very well known films). When ROTK came out it honestly didn't have much competition at all that year, and I feel that we face the same issue again this year. There have been no big hits that have been films "grounded in reality." Meanwhile, despite its Science Fiction elements, The Dark Knight was a brilliant commentary on modern society (as was Wall-E), and thus it worked on many different levels, you know what I mean? I really expect a nomination for Best Picture for both of them. Will they win? Probably not, especially since Benjamin Button looks like definite Oscar Quality, but we'll have to see.

Maybe I should have stated that differently. I was trying to say that they probably wouldn't give either of the movies best picture, so they would probably decide on something else, and, as such, being relatively unknown, since I couldn't think of any at the time.

I do see what you mean though about there being no competition. After refreshing my memory about what all came out this year, I don't really see anything else they would consider. Perhaps this will be another year where the Academy is backed into rewarding a good movie they would otherwise have not have considered.

I'm also not much of a movie insider, so I never really hear much fanfare about the movies that win until they've already won, because they're generally not the kind of movies I like seeing. So I suppose every year I expect there to be some kind of highbrow insider movie that I had never heard much about before.

Honestly I don't think I've gotten over the year the Oscars pissed me off the most, which was 2002, where the broadway-fest Chicago won best picture, art direction, cinematography, costume design, film editing, and sound over both LotR:The Two Towers and the Pianist. X|

Well, I'm pretty sure this year, movies like Milk with Sean Penn and James Franco, amongst other great actors will win. Despite the fact that it didn't have much of a theatrical release. (at least here in Edmonton) So, I haven't really been able to see it yet. Or such movies like "The Wrestler" which seem to get rave reviews and what not.

Not like I don't think they deserve it, but movies like The Dark Knight deserve some consideration at least since everybody has seen it and the popular consensus is that it was quite amazing and well done.

Ohh, I forgot about Milk... that's the perfect Academy Award movie they can latch onto besides The Dark Knight and Wall-E (and Benjamin Button). It has the elements of the things they usually pick.

Not necessarily the political/gay thing alone (remember brokeback mountain didn't win), but that would probably be part of it. It's got that historical drama-ish look to it with that highbrow (for lack of a better word) kind of feel, plus the big name actors like you mentioned.

no, chevy tracker 1998. lol i just went outside to see any damage, all that's there is a few deer hairs, nothing more. not even a dent. now, if it would've been my old buick lesabre '89...that deer wouldn't stand a chance against that. nothing did...until the alternator and transmission went.

Well, my 360 just up and died on me with no warning signs whatsoever. Just playin CoD:WaW and started getting artifacts in the sky, turned my 360 off, and turned it back on to recieve 1 red light. And of course the f***in things out of warranty for the past 3 f***in months, so now it's either 94 bucks to get it repaired, or 216 for a brand new arcade unit with brand new hardware and brand new warranty.

Of course all this happens when I no longer have a job -_-

Dell was selling the Arcade bundles for $154 two days ago. They may still be doing that. Just a heads up. You could then also sell the controller and your old power cables to recoup money.

Dang, Bongo. That seriously sucks. If you aren't going to get it repaired, I'd take Rhett's approach and sell off as much as you possibly can, then just go for the cheapest deal.

Craigslist, maybe?

I'm gonna try to sell it on the Xbox-Scene forums where I've bought and sold before. Hoping to get like 40 for it, but I don't know, cause it's not as easy to fix as the 3 RRoD. Gonna try to sell it though.

I do technically have a job, it's just complicated to explain. Hopefully I can have enough for a new one by next friday, but I'm not gettin my hopes up.

Wait, don't repaired 360's get their warranty renewed? Like, $94, wait two weeks, new 360 with a one year warranty... or ... wait...

Option one:
Sell broke 360
+ $40ish
Sell PSU (remember, there are different types, look it up before trying to sell)
+ $30-60
Buy new 360 Arcade
- $200
Get a new 3 year warranty
+ All right!
Sell Wireless controller
+ $40-50

Downtime: As fast as you can afford the Arcade
$$$ : - $30-90 in the end

******

Option two:
Send it in
- $94
Get one year warranty
+ Eh...

Downtime: Two to four weeks D:
$$$ : - $94

Yeah, I can see your point.

Double Post Thread Bump.

So. I'm kind of an audiophile. I set up surround sound on the computer in my room two years ago and even since then It's been pretty important to me. I'm not super picky, but when I notice static or something just a little off it bugs me horribly until I finally fix it.

Well. This morning I open iTunes to play some Jason Mraz, I start up "I'm Yours" and it sounds as if my ears are being raped. It really wasn't that bad, but there was a definite, harsh crackling coming from my right front speaker. I was upset because I thought my $150 speaker system would have to be replaced, but I wasn't going to give up quite yet. I unplugged and replugged all of the connectors, and made sure that my Sound Card was all of the way in. No luck. But then I decided to mess around with the wiring a bit, switching the front and back connectors, so the computer would be sending the front right channel to the back right speaker. After doing this I noticed that the back right speaker was crackling, while the front right seemed fine (from what I could tell).

Essentially, I need to fix my problem, but I don't want to spent too much money, preferably none. I was looking at some X-Fi cards on newegg but they're all around $80+ for a decent one, and I was wondering if anyone had some advice? Is there anything I can do to fix my sound card? Could it be a driver issue? Or will I just have to give in and go with the new card?

Any help would be appreciated.

Before grabbing a new card, completely pull out the sound card, blow out the socket, wipe off the card pins and then re-seat it.

Also, does your card have a digital output you can try using? I think you'd have to set it up under Playback Devices > Digital Output.

Bump again.

I tried exactly that. No luck. I don't see a "Playback Devices > Digital Output" anywhere (not that I really know where to look), but I did mess with the sampling rate and bit depth. Again, no luck.

My guess is that this is God punishing you for being Canadian. Divine retribution is a bitch, especially when you're a jerk who pronounces "about" and "z" oddly for reasons mysterious and insane.

For advice slightly less jackassy and infinitely more applicable, see a doctor. When one half of your body decides to go on strike, it's probably a sign that something is up.

Although, bonus points and a horribly excruciating death if it's boneitis.

Dun dun dun dundun dun dun dun

Just as long as his only regret is that he has boneitis.

Tap dancing is impossible...

Especially when you've never taken a class and are given ten minutes to perfect a Maxi Ford at fast speeds.

"A few times in my life I've had moments of absolute clarity. When for a few brief seconds, the silence drowns out the noise and I can feel rather than think, and things seem so sharp and the world seems so fresh. I can never make these moments last. I cling to them, but like everything, they fade. I've lived my life on these moments. They pull me back to the present and I realize that everything is exactly the way it was meant to be."

Thumbs down

Make sure you do NOT buy any products from this company. They put you on auto-renewal by default, and when you want any kind of a refund, the tech support people refuse to talk to you. They handle everything by e-mail which is handled with bogus responses such as "we will review your information". What a crock of ****. Now I have been billed for a product I stopped using WELL over a year ago, and it caused my bank account to go negative, and I can't seem to get my money back. Is there some sort of legal agency I can complain too? It's only $30 plus tax, but it's the principal of the thing. And that after waiting on the phone for a half hour today, they still cannot do this over the phone? I am very upset right now.

What do they create? If it's something fairly common, then there are probably tons of open-source projects that aren't complete scams.
