Avatar Uploading problem
I'm trying to change my avatar, but it keeps telling me my URL isn't a valad JPG, GIF, or somthing else. I used the picture from my photobucked and I've uploaded it to imageshack, both of which have previously worked for me, now arn't. If there's a problem, could you plz try and fix it???

When for a few brief seconds, the silence drowns out the noise and I can feel rather than think, and things seem so sharp and the world seems so fresh. I can never make these moments last. I cling to them, but like everything, they fade. I've lived my life on these moments. They pull me back to the present and I realize that everything is exactly the way it was meant to be."

Did you, by any chance, edit it in any way in MS Paint?

I'm sorry that this is off-topic, but Darth_Ave, were you always a Mod, since if I remember correctly, you were just a member? *

Have you checked that the image isn't too large in size (must be 40 KB or less) or dimensions (120x120 pixels at most)?
If you can't get it to work you could post a link to the image and someone could have a look and see if they can spot what's wrong with it.

Yeah, classic problems.
I'm surprised vBulletin doesn't automatically resize avatars and/or convert them to JPEG for us. I'm fairly sure a lot of other software has successfully done it. It's kind of something we shouldn't have to worry about these days; when we upgrade I'll try to make sure we have something that does this automatically.

I don't gotta check the dimentions, it's an LJ icon I have. and those are only allowed to be 100x100

There ya go
I saved it to my desktop then uploaded it via the Mod Control Panel
EDIT: Yup, I was doing what stoffe suggested the same time she was typing it.. hehehe.
Uploading from your desktop seems to always work for me when i change mine.

Sigh...that's what I was trying to say at first but somebody DELETED MY POST

Why would you upload it from an URL?
It's easier to just upload it from your computer.

I save it to my computer, but all it comes up as is a bmp, and those don't work anywhere. I uploaded it to imagesites too, but it's still always a bmp.

That's most likely because you're using MS Paint, which can only save things as a BMP. Installing the GIMP would give you more control over what you make, and it can save in more than one format.

I'd actually recommend Paint.NET. It allows you to do a lot of manipulations easily and quickly (text, blurring, glows, etc), but most importantly it's very user-friendly; you're much more likely to find it comfortable if you use Windows.

Seconded
I use Photoshop, and Paint.Net has many of the same utilities and functions you'd see in a high end commercial product. GIMP is great, don't get me wrong, but when I did comparison tests, Paint.Net felt more natural based off of using both Windows and Photoshop.
Since they're both free though, give'em both a shot and see what's more comfortable for you

Yeah. I use photoshop, too. It is very useful for somebody how changes avatars very frequently.
GIMP is pretty useful (I used to use it). It works fine, if you are just using for cropping pictures and resizing.
I haven't used 'Paint.NET' before, so I can't help you there. But, recommend either photoshop or GIMP.

Actually, MS Paint can save an image as a .bmp, .dib, .jpg, .gif, .tif, .tiff or .png
