puzzled by something that isn't a puzzle

Hey all,

I was an avid lucasarts adventure fan back in the day (MI is my fav). When Grim Fandango came out in the late 90's for some reason despite the excellent reviews, I wasn't drawn to it. Anyhow, I have just returned home from India SICK and need something to keep me company, so I for some reason again decided to go buy Grim Fandango.

Ok thats my little intro .

Basically, I have a real short attention span these days. I have become stuck in GF! So I come on the net to cheat (just a smidge), the thing is it's not the puzzle puzzling me... I CANNOT find the 'communications room'. The pink Comm Demon appears to come out of the 'packaging room'. I cannot find any doors in the vicinity which open into a 'communications room'. From the research I have done, it should be either in the package room, opposite it or next to it. Where is it ??

These types of 'puzzles', like the good ole pixel hunting of days past, drive me bonkers.

Thanks very much guys.

Hi! It's great that you've finally got around to playing GF!

The communications room is opposite the packaging room, right across the hallway. As you walk down the hallway, towards the front doors, turn right at the end to go into the communications room, instead of left into the packaging room.

Hope that helps!

Yes! Thank you very much. Even knowing from you where the room was, still I almost thought I was foiled.

A major part of the reason I have no patience for adventure games these days is because I have so little confidence in the puzzles. Every time I get a bit stuck I think to myself "what if this is another case of 'awkwardly positioned room that I can't find'" And so I feel compelled to check a walk through, in this case I feel that I was justified.

Does anyone else have this same nark?

I used to, had it really bad. So bad I'd ended up putting games aside for years at a time, like Schizm.

I also had this problem with GF, but then I discovered UHS hints and all was right with the world. Sometimes I would feel guilty for looking up hints, but then I remember how much I paid for the game and that a game is supposed to be fun and not frustrating, then I'm fine with looking up hints.

I have the exact same problem, deleted. I completed GF almost entirely with a walkthrough, though that was mostly because it was my first adventure game and I didn't know any better. Nowadays I try to solve everything on my own, but I very rarely finish a game without looking up hints.

When a game has a complelling story, an interesting setting or something like that, I'm usually less patient because I can't wait to see what happens next.

On the other hand, I currently have five adventure games (Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island, Escape from Monkey Island, Keepsake, and Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon) on hold because while they all interest me somewhat, I can't be bothered to finish them, even with hints.

Really? I hated the mechanical puzzles, the castle was a terrible maze, the voice acting got on my nerves and I never really got into the story. Since you have a completely different opinion, I'd be interested in hearing what you liked about it.

<sigh> true, but the graphics were gorgeous, it had some cool effects (like when you walk around the side of a tower), and it just seemed to cute not to like.
