My first RPG? Tabletop Dungeon's and Dragons (before the Player's Handbook came out).
My first CRPG? KotOR.

Including demos, I think it would be some obscure title called Abomination something. Excluding demos, I think it should be Deus Ex. Not really sure, though. Got fuzzy memories of that era.

For consoles it was Dragon Warrior on the NES. I didn't get into PC RPGs until later with Baldur's Gate.

Oopsie. I'm not too clear on the distinctions:P In that case, it would be FFVIII.

I'd have to say Sid Meir's Pirates (though borderline FPS in some respects) and then KOTOR.

Kotor 1 came out before Fable came out.
Kotor 1 was released in 2003 for Xbox and 2005 for PC and Fable was released in 2004 for the Xbox while the PC version came out in 2005.

Not really sure. Something by Sierra or Sir-Tech, I think. Sidescrolling, cartoony graphics, very small characters and little plot. Oh, and a very expensive method of resurrection. That was in about 2000, tho.

morrowind, i wouldn't really consider FFVII an rpg after playing morrowind where i can actually ROLE play my character however the hell i wanted.
Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

Yeah, I spent about 50 hours hunting creatures and living off of skins/pelts/etc. Of course, sleeping at night in Solstheim could be a bit dangerous...

I played Zelda: Link's Awakening on one of those huge original Gameboys. If that doesn't count, I also played Final Fantasy Adventure, which was a great game and had a far, far larger world than Zelda.
My first PC RPG was... actually I'm not sure. Maybe Morrowind. Before that I had mostly played RTS games, with the very notable exception of the Descent series. <3

Well, if you don't count Pokemon or Zelda (really not much of an RPG) as one.
I'd have to say the Paper Mario was my first RPG. That game brings back the good old days of the N64. It's sequel on the GameCube was my second RPG.
Both fantastic games and should be played by everyone!

GREAT Game!!
Although, my first RPG was Darklands.
Still one of the better rpgs too actually. If more RPGs were like this one I'd probably play more as this was back when they cared about content as compared to graphics (still irks me).

Monkey Island is more accurately termed an "Adventure Game" than a "Role-Playing Game".

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons on the Intellivision. I think it might have been the first graphic crpg ever made. Although really, the birth of crpg was Pool of Radiance on the C64. Awesome game that set the tone for the genre...
It's sequel - Curse of the Azure Bonds - was really quite awesome as well. The entire AD&D Gold Box is in desperate need of a remake tbh.
