One strange question o.o
Hi everybody,
I'm trying to become a skinner, and as soon as I started reskinning a model, I found that I wasn't able to make the skin look so that the two arms (upper arm) were diffrent...
What I was planning to do, was something similiar to this:
http://images.wikia.com/starwars/ima...Bane_sabre.jpg
So, how do I make the upper arms ook diffrent from each other?
Thanks in advance

Well in the textures there is a torso image file that is a jpeg.I think that in MOST models that the model uses a jpeg image with two views of the torso and two arms all in one file.So i'm thinking bassicaly you should take one of the arm views and color them differently or style them different, what ever you are trying to do ya know, and that should do it.If you need to learn more about skinning or just need help e-mail me at agent_katarn@yahoo.com

Oh, well, thanks!
I've really appreciated this fast reply
By the way, I don't know if I got it right :s
I'm practising with a downloaded model, and I can find only one of the "arm view", and if I modify it, both arms are affected by the change..
So, I'm stucked <.<

Thats because the texture (UV coordinates) has been mirrored, there's nothing you can do about it.
It's a common practice to mirror UV's to maximize resolution and to speed up the texturing process.

yep, so unless you want to make a new model, you'll have to go with what you've got. When you first start you can't get everything perfectly

Argh...
So, in order to make arms look different, the only way is modeling? So bad I don't know how <.<
Well, thanks for the replies

Or, you could take that same part of the skin and copy it, then change the arm how you want it, then in the .skin file point the other arm there, that should do it and the arms won't be the same in the game.

Haha dude that's brilliant! , you're totally right it aint the same as having the head or torso mirrored since the meshes arent attached together.

Kind of an old trick. People have been doing that for years.

Well, Great! Thanks..
There is only one problem ._. the arm texture is part of the "torso" texture.
Does your method still fit the situation? If yes, the left arm, in the .skin is simply called "l_arm" ?

It does not matter what the texture looks like as long as the arm mesh is separate from the torso mesh.
