Actually, you could have the UK version of the game. Try applying the UK versions of the international patches. There are two, and you'll need both of them.

Link's in the second post.

Fix their home team score on the board to the debt clock, they can win every game 17,000,000,000,000 to 24. Losing team gets taxed by the IRS 100%, then droned."

Are you absolutely sure it would work? I really dont want to totally screw up my game... Well, not that it isnt all ready, but if it messes up, and I uninstall it, will the patch still be there if I reinstall? and 1 other thing, how much different is the UK version from the US?

Still be there? No. If it was applied, it should be uninstalled with the rest of the game. That having been said, it's a good idea to run the patch files from a different folder (not the game's folder).

I don't know how different the UK version is from the US one; I just know that it requires different patches.

after I restored the msl file, the ini, and the old exe (glad I backed those up now!) the patches went through. Thank you so much, I never would've thought of that considering I bought this in Kentucky. Has anyone posted a link to the UK .exe or is it on his website?
Wait, ran it with just the patch (none of the files I downloaded) and it runs great now! Thank you so much!!

I definitely have have the US version of the game, (It works now with the US patch) and I received the same "Old file not found" error message. This message occurs when you attempt to run the patch with the SecuROM kotor2.exe file in place. Also, if you run the system scan with the SecuROM file, it will say the game isn't patched, whether you've patched it or not. I've tested this several times with a successfully patched game.

Thank you so much! Worked like a charm, and to the post above, I know I didnt have the secuROM exe installed, that was my problem. I searched around my game discs a bit and found that a few of the zip files on there were corrupt and wouldnt extract correctly. I used the UK patches, and the game seems exactly as it would with the US version (that I imagine at least). Thank you again Q. Youre one mad genius lol.

You got the "mad" part right.

I don't have time to lurk through the whole thread to see if anyone else had this problem, but I was hoping you'd know what's up. I doubt it's my PC specs, but I wouldn't be suppried if it is.

Could you please tell me exactly what model your laptop is?

Your GPU is not being detected by the game at all.

Try updating your graphics/chipset drivers, either from Dell's site or, better yet, Intel's, then run the scan again.

Updating drivers did the trick, much thanks. Plus, you even fixed Mass Effect's problem, so even more thanks.

stuck between a hardplace and a rock

I have followed the directions on page 1 to the last punctuation mark. lol However i am not able to update this game at all.. Ive tried the UK international update A. and it says right off the bat that one of the files is not the same as it should and cancels the update... reinstalled the game tried using UK update B. gets to launcher.exe (put the background.wav file in from KOTOR1 in a folder called launcher) it was aborting there because i dont have a launcher folder or exe file. so its not recognizing that either as a potential update. Then reinstalled AGAIN and tried the US B. update... gets to the Manual.pdf file an claims its not the same.... update aborts. So NONE of the updates are working for me... I just recently purchased the Collection set off amazon. It comes with both games in a single box, each game is on 1 DVD. im on an ASUS G73 notebook ATI card HD5870, Win 7 64bit, i7 cpu. The game will not start up at all... loads the exe (shows it in the task manager) but after the CD/DVD icon comes up showing that the disc is being verified it just doesnt do anything... the exe in taskmanager closes out on its own. ive tried swapping out that dll file as well, nothing seems to be working for me.

I tried using the securom exe files, when i put those in the directory game prompts me for the CD/DVD... Yes i am installing the game with comp. @ xp sp2 ive even tried sp3... yes im running as admin... i honestly think they redid this game and the file system is not exactly the same therefore the updates are not working... I could be wrong but if someone can shed some light or give me a suggestion or two i would highly appreciate it. im at a loss right now.

neither KOTOR game will launch what so ever

Kotor1 however did update but failure to launch... no errors or anything just doesnt launch.

Was really looking forward to playing this game overseas here during my down time in Afghanistan and now i just have a giant headache and super disappointed...

With all this being said also i have no way to pull up config / log to post here for anyone to read ...unless theres a way im not familiar with

Thanks for the time on reading this rant and looking forward to hearing a solution.

That new KotOR collection should already be compatible with Vista/7. None of those steps should be necessary at all. Just install it like you would anything else.

They should already be patched, too, if you're trying to patch them.

Hey first of all great guide thanks for all the info. My game plays correctly and no major issues what so ever. Only thing that is bothering me is that when the game is transitioning between a movie or normal game scene, that the screen is blacked out for 5 seconds. So I miss the first few seconds of almost every movie, now this is nothing major but I was still wondering if maybe somebody knew the cause of this. I play on windows 7 and followed all your instructions in the guide, except the securom exe's because that is only required for vista I believe, and I doubt that something like that could be the case.

Also my game used to start in windowed screen even though I never set those options for it, and then there is no 5 seconds blackout during the beginning of movies. However my windowed screen was small and I cannot get used to playing without full screen.

This problem is btw present in both games. And I have the Uk version of both games.

Also my drivers are of the most current version.
Thanks in advance

Here are the game specs I use for Kotor II:
(Also both patches (UK) are installed and so are the high quality media patches.
I left the keymapping out because if I remember right you dont need that info correct?

Since Fullscreen=1 in both places like it's supposed to be, I'm not sure why this is happening. Try setting the game to run at a higher resolution. Also, make sure that 640x480 is included in the list of supported resolutions in your Nvidia control panel.

"They should rename the team to the Washington Government Sucks. Put Obama on the helmet. Line the entire walls of the stadium with the actual text of the ACA.
Fix their home team score on the board to the debt clock, they can win every game 17,000,000,000,000 to 24. Losing team gets taxed by the IRS 100%, then droned."

Higher Resolution doesn't help I just tested it, where can I find that list in the control panel, is it under the monitor tab? And then change resolution? (Roughly translated from dutch seeing as I have a Dutch pc and everything is installed in Dutch) I added the 640x480 resolution there.

But like I said the strange thing is everything plays correctly when the game is windowed, however I cannot change the size of the window so I am stuck in playing in a relatively small window. I never had this issue with my old xp pc, the black screen for a few moments i mean ( the PC which is now in the grave so to speak).

The Nvidia control panel should have its own entry under Hardware and Sound in Windows' Control Panel.

You may need to update your drivers, which can be found at Nvidia.com. Make sure to completely uninstall the old drivers first, then choose custom installation and uncheck everything but the driver itself and Phys-X when installing the new drivers.

I did as you instructed and still no luck, well guess I have to live with it then. Dont know if you can think of anything else but in case you dont, then it is no biggie I can still watch the cutscenes I only miss like the first 5 seconds of the movies.

Thanks anyway for trying to help me

Edit: I have found a work around solution

I let the game played windowed and the movies always play nice in it, however my main concern was that the window was to small. However my resolution of my desktop is 1280x 1024, that same resolution is also in Kotor II. So I used that resolution in Kotor II and now the windowed screen fills up my entire screen perfectly. I have changed my taskbar settings to hide the taskbar if I am not hovering over it, so it now feels like I am playing fullscreen, except for the blue bar on top, but well that is so insignificant that it can be ignored. So now the movies play correctly and it almost feels like I am playing fullscreen

Thanks Q anyway for the suggestions, because I did reinstall my drivers correctly and some other games have increased performance, so I also got a little bonus with it

Hi there... I'm trying to get KOTOR2 to work... but before I jump through all the hoops, I was wondering if it will even work on my laptop.

That's probably because you've got the resolution set a 1600x1200 when your desktop is set to only 1366x768. It's a good bet that your screen can't support 1600x1200.

I'd give 1280x768 a try. The game supports it.

still not working. It's still crashing right after the "obsidian" title screen.

This is a frustrating game! Steam hasn't been any help either.

You're using the Steam version? Those steps shouldn't be necessary, then, as they are for the disk versions of the game.

Try switching to 1024x768 using the in-game menu.

I just purchased the KOTOR collection yesterday and installed both games.
Now when launched 1 and got into the main menu and stuff, changed the resolution and then KOTOR closed. When i tried to launch again it wouldn't even get past the picture with dark malak (before main menu). After uninstalling it and re installing it, i was able to get back into the main menu and i went back to settings to change the graphics and it did the exact same thing. Re did the installing and just didn't fiddle with settings and just clicked play. I was able to create my character and as soon as i hit play the game shuts down cause windows says there is a problem.

I installed KOTOR 2 to test it out and as soon as i launch the game it says windows has found a problem and it shuts down. Didn't even get to an image.

I am running Windows 7/ with intel i5

I thought the game was released again on disc because it was compatible with vista and windows 7?

Is there anything I can do to make these games run? ( i shouldn't need to patch the game since it is already patched on disc plus I tried using a no cd crack with an actual KOTOR collection with no success)

It's supposed to be compatible with Windows 7, yes. I know nothing about these versions, though. If you can, try using the game's configuration utility to post your system specs:

  • Bring up the launcher menu for Kotor 1 or 2 (by running "launcher.exe").
  • Click on "Configure".
  • Click the "Scan Hardware" button on the lower center of the window.
  • Click "Yes" to continue.
  • Click "Details" to view your system specs.
  • Click "Save Report" and save the file to your desktop.
  • Whenever you post your problem, open the file you just saved and copy and paste the contents to your post.
You can leave out the keymapping and everything after that.

Hello Gentlemen

I've made this account because I'm in desperate need of your help!
I've just brought the KOTOR collection yesterday (CD) Which contains both KOTOR 1 and 2 both only 1 disc.
I can get none of them to work. After reading several guides and watching lots of youtube videos I've managed to install the game properly. Note I'm only interested in playing KOTOR2

I'm using vista 32 bit.
My issue is I simply cannot apply either the 1.0a or 1.0b patches. If i try to start the game as it is, nothing happens and I'm forced to close the process or get my cd out of the comp.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwEZlal8yb8

I've tried everything it says in following video.
I've tried both the UK patch notes and the US ones. I'm living in Denmark, Scandinavia.
Please help!

Please post your system specs using the game's configuration utility.
First, navigate to your game's main folder and find "swconfig.exe". Right-click on it, select "Properties" and a window will pop up. Choose the "Compatibility" tab at the top of the window, check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and choose "Windows XP Service Pack 2" from the drop-down menu. Check the box next to "Run this program as an administrator", hit the "Apply" button, then the "OK" button. Now do the exact same thing to "launcher.exe" and follow the instructions below:

Have win 7 64 bit and game keeps crashing about 5 mins into game 3 encounter with the bad guys. Followed install to the tee listed above. Have cpu affinity set to 1. Here is my info. I couldn't get the launcher to run in XP sp2 mode for some reason it is greyed out. However my swkotor is xp sp2 and game and patch were installed xp sp2.

You need to try the Dantooine lag fix.

Thanks I was able to get past the third battle after applying the fix. Wasn't sure if I needed to apply that to my ini file or not. Thanks again.

Crash help

I just picked up the newer KOTOR 1&2 Collection combo pack. Love the game but haven't played it since I got a new computer with windows 7. I was able to install the game and play all the way through Davik estate. I tried to board the Ebon Hawk but the game crashed. Now when I try to load, all I get is the startup LucasArts logo and Bioware logo. Then the game minimizes and shows as still running in task manager. I've read through the instructions in this thread but not sure exactly how to proceed with my issue.

I have no way of running the configure tool to show you my specs. When I click on the launch.exe file, the only options I get are: Play, Uninstall, Website, Read Me, and Exit. Where do I go from here?
