Really nice, though maybe the huge backgrounds can be put in hidden tags so that it doesn't break the borders so much.

Agreed, but this is a very nice consolidation of images. Puts all the work into perspective

Wich one do you guys like more. I just cut these out of two of the pictures on ms paint real quik so I could just get a side by side comparison. I like the one on the left but for a special edition remake I think they should pick the on on the right. I dont know I am still going back and forth.

You can't link pictures directly from your computer, you have to upload them to a site like tinypic.com.

Well... im a little torn on this because I drew the one on the left LOL.... but honestly I can admit if they did one like the one on the right, closer to the original sprite it would be best..
of the two versions I did I like the one in my avatar better than the one you picked

You want higher definition than that? (or are you have sarcasmometer problems, or am I?)

I think TheJoe is suggesting that MI2 is beyond improvement already. He makes a strong case.

I wouldn't mind a version with the original artwork in real 640x480 or higher res, speech in MI:SE quality and music played on real instruments.
It would be neat if they would just try to "uprez" the existing art and style. MI had lots of sparse and empty backgrounds open to interpretation, but MI2's style is already fully developed. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Oh I see. It does make sence. I am fine the way it is now. I dont realy care if they remake it. It would be a nice feature but there isnt a lot to improve.

Hit the nail on the head.
My hugely biased opinion is that voice is the only possible improvement it needs.

MI2 doesn't need so much as a Special Edition, more like an enhanced version. Voices and higher res. Not a completely redrawn new look.

cool! Now the sign post needs just a little depth of field blurring, parallax scrolling and maybe swaying in the wind.
The ship could be rocking up and down gently too.
I still find that Guybrush sprite a little young looking though. Maybe LucasArts should make 3 seperate sprites to please us anal fanboys.

those are all really great ideas and I agree... but it took long enough just to animate the clouds and water.... and I didn't do a particularly great job on those... so I will not even attempt to do more.

Here's the original for comparison:
And here's a smudged image by CoffeeLady over on the AGS boards:
For the not-really step-by-step, check out the tutorial:
CoffeeLady Smudging Tutorial
But then again, that's a lot of work when they could presumably just re-scan the original painted backgrounds.

There are a lot easier ways to do it than how CoffeeLady did it.
Even if they rescanned the original art there would need to be alot of work done to them.. I understand from an interview about the original art is they are marker art on a fairly small pieces of marker paper... they do not lend themselves very well to work in a big resolution... but its a great place to start.
Alot of this fan stuff uses filters to blend the colors smooth and then most people here go in and touch it up.
I would love to get my hands on the originals.

I'm gonna try out something fancy. It's gonna take a while, but might be worth a shot.
Alright. Maybe 50% done. looks good. I'll have something tomorrow...in 3D

Most MI1 SE backgrounds actually have less detail than the original, even if they are in a higher resolution.
Using the original art for MI2 would be more than enough.

Irishmile... You should just do the enhanced MI2...
We'd better get cracking into SCUMM a bit more, eh?

Well I imagine him being 19 in MI, then 21-23 in MI2, then maybe 25 in MI3

I think he was 17 or 18 in MI1 and he's definatly 19 in MI2, probably still 19 in MI3 since it follows up MI2 without much time between them.

It seems like he's a few years older in CMI for some reason, but he can't be more than a few days older than he is in MI2 (a week or two at most).
