Ya dude you would be so lucky if you got a job with LA!!!! I would die from jelousy if you did... I have dreamed of being a game designer or progaramer for LA...IF not them the next best thing. Telltalegames. I am only in high school so I will have time to study and have a tiny tiny chance of making it but if that failes to happen I w will find somewhere else to design. If I did get a career in that field of work I would probably picl Telltale games because they would be easier to get a job with. Only because Lucasarts is like a huge company and less of a chance of getting a job.
Thats just my opinion on that. Just saying.

Guy.Brush, those wallpapers are great! I love the third one, where the focus is on the post rather than Dread's house. Very atmospheric, especially when you zoom in so that the houseboat is almost centre-screen and the post is off to the right... hehe... also makes you really appreciate Purcell's composition... ahem, anyway. Great job

Those images and that Youtube vid look great, Guy.brush!
It's really amazing that you can get such a high resolution in 3D from that piece of concept art.
You should make more of them if you have the time.

Just to be clear about it: I don't intent to "finish" this. There is just no way. Both from a copyright standpoint and a workload one. It's LucasArts' IP, I just wanted to show what could be achieved when some effort is applied.
The original paintings (at least the ones we have) ooze of cool lighting and mood and I just wanted to capture and enhance that using modern techniques.
I might do the Voodoo lady hideout just for fun, but otherwise, I'm not trying to do any kind of conversion, product or game mod with this.

I don't think you understand Guy.brush...
Finish game or GTFO.
Nah just kidding besides Monkey Island 2 is twice the game SOMI:SE is in terms of length so a remake would take a lot of time. Oh well I tried.

Fantastic effort Guy.brush, I'm awestruck.
Why the blazes isn't this on the frontpage right now?
You mean the way the sea stays steady as a rock and the buildings keep washing up and down? Yes I thought that was odd.

I got bored and started working on the Voodoo lady hideout during render times of another project.
Never noticed how neat the basic composition is before I started to lay it out in basic 3d. That scene is a bit more challenging from a perspective POV. Everything bends and is so weirdly shaped...but the light fx should give a nice mood.
Dunno how long it takes, maybe till Friday.

Well at least Haggis put it on talesofmi.net... who needs Mojo's front page anyway?
Guy.brush, I'd like to say that I didn't let out a girly squeal when you said you'd do the Voodoo lady's place, but I'm afraid I can't.

Now it's also on MTV Multiplayer... who claim this will be turned into a game, and Guy.brush has apparently been cloned, since it's made by multiple "crazy Germans". I just love this kind of awesome* journalism, reminds me of the whole Monkey Island 5 fiasco when that concept art for the MI movie surfaced.

Wow.
[Jon Stewart Mode]Really? Really?![/Jon Stewart Mode]
How can anyone even think I would go ahead and magically make an entire new game out of this? It's LucasArts' IP. I just wanted to show (them) what is possible with some proper Voodoo. This is just for fun and honing my cam projection/modelling skills.
Those artworks have been engrained into our brains for so long, it's just nice to make them look all fancy pantsy.
oh btw Voodoo mama scene is coming together nicely. Just takes some time to model all the little bottles and stuff the lady has in her hideout.

Wow thats pretty crazy. How did they get ahold of Guy.brush's stuff? are they allowed to do that?
Heres some of the comments:

Isnt that realy what you were doing Guy.brush? MTV Makes it sound like you were going to make it into a game.

Ok so it sounds like he has the wrong Idea and so does MTV.
and Whats up with the crazy Germans thing!? Are you German Guy.brush? If not then that totaly doesnt make sense to me. I am guessing that its because its always Germans that try to make the Remakes and sequals like the DOTT2 project. I am surprised they havnt got shut down already.

^ I believe Guy.brush is indeed a talented German, at least judging from the website. How he became multiple Germans is another question entirely.

I noticed you also got ReTweeted by the official LucasArts twitter account, Guy.brush - so maybe there's some hope that someone inside of LucasArts is listening!

They probably think that Paco Vink is the other crazy German. Just because his name appears in the credits (because of the Guybrush he drew) doesn't mean he is involved in the project though... and he's of course Dutch, not German. Journalism makes me cry.
Edit: The LucasArts guy on Twitter seems to like it as well: http://twitter.com/lucasartsgames/status/2913534492

I'm really enthusiastic about this!
You've really made me see how 3D can look as beautiful as 2D when rightfully applied.
I'd love MI2 SE to look like this!

If they actually did do this for MI2, how many people would be really pissed off at them for copying Guy.brush's idea? Looks like they can't win

I don't think many people would be.
And that's just because they want it to look the best.
It would be nice if they gave him credit or something.

Well if they did use camera projection, there would still be the question of wether to use it to "just" enhance a 2D image or go real 3D.
Their MI2:SE probably would still be using 2D SCUMM, so cam projection in their case would only be to enhance shadows, etc in a 2D image. They could easily go back to Photoshop after that and then reedit on top of the 2D+3D image. But to be honest, just for retouching one 2D image it could be kind of a waste.
The technique I demonstrated lends itself to transform something from 2D into real 3D so there would be the potential to do it with a real 3d engine that pans a little from side to side as Guybrush goes from left to right (or in the case of Captain Dread's boat: The camera could dolly in a little on that boat when Guybrush walks towards it)
Not too much camera movement, always faithful to the original screen. Just to give a sense of the place. Kind of like Telltale did it with their backgrounds. Keeping the 2D feel by not allowing the player to roam freely and look at the 4th wall (facing the player), so you can design your backgrounds as 2D and neatly as possible.
maybe I can show you the Voodoo hideout later tonight.

I'm finished with modeling, but not with texture projection. I think I'll wait a bit to show it. Tomorrow seems feasable. My girlfriend is at my place and I don't want to work too hard

I wouldn't. I like it as a fan image, but it's not really the Monkey Island 2 style I've grown to love.
