Ed, you think you can swing up to Boston Bowl on the afternoon of March 6? I plan on participating in the Autism Speaks bowl-a-thon with my friends from FanForce and Boston Bowl may be closer to you than Westgate Lanes is.

odd thing today, I enjoyed re-re-re-re-re-watching 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' w/ my mom (one of our co-favorite movies)

I suddenly noticed while watching it that the Butler is Palpatine

I've bowled there! Still have a couple pair of the socks they give you.

If I'm not working I'll swing by. It's only about 10 minutes from my place.

Spent the night over at the GF's new place. Still needs some setting up... but she's fully in now.

Her neighbor put a nasty note on my windshield about the butt-end of my car sticking out too far. I was in as far as we could get it. I'm pretty sure he got by, but I think it's going to be a continuing problem... at least until the snow banks all go away. I'll see what I can do when I go over tonight though. I may not sleep over this time though. I need a really good long uninterrupted night's sleep... and that's unlikely to happen in the house with the kids.

Paul Simon at work today. Feelin' groovy.

Cool, Ed...I believe we're bowling from 1-3. I'll try to get "Richie V" on the scorer in some form so you can locate my lane.

He played his new, as-of-yet unreleased album from beginning-to-end, talking about his ideas, writing process, and recording and arranging techniques.

Then he played a song with a faculty band.

It was an OK day.

I'm feeling like crap right now, however. Like I'm coming down with something brutal. I think I'm going to skip visiting the GF and just get some real sleep tonight.

been in a bitchy mood for the last 4 days. Not sure what it is all about. Maybe because it is dawning on my that i will be moving to a different area of the state for the first time in my life, and the fact i don't have much money since I spent almost all of it on my car.

The video is cute. That kid's packin' a giant saber!

NASCAR on TV... Awesome!

This is pretty much the very first Valentine's Day of my life I've had to actually worry about celebrating instead of just ignoring or grumbling my way through.

It's a weird feeling.

THings are getting rather interesting here. In case you don't know my Asshat of a Governer unveild his new budget and is trying to ram it through the legislators. One of the best parts of the POS is he decree's that all collective bargaining for unions is no longer allowed. and he is forcing state employees to pay more into their pension, and a WHOLE lot more (from 3% to 12%) of their Health insurance. In the same speach where he announced his new Budget he called for the National Guard to stand ready.

Yea... there were a few thousand people at our state capitol today protesting.

Let's just hope it doesn't go the same way as some countries in the Middle east

Sounds like a fun time.

It stinks of 'Union Breaking' to me however. An anti-union government using their time in power to pass legislation to weaken unions, under the guise of saving tax dollars or something.

I'm curious to see how this all plays out.

Never really been a fan of unions to begin with. They seem to do more harm than good from the corperate side of everything.

Though I do respect workers rights, that can be done via legislation and not unions.

BUT WE'RE NOT GONNA TALK ABOUT THAT HERE, CHANGING THE TOPIC:
Show spoiler

OMG CUTE!!

EDIT: Picture is now a spoiler, made the forum go all wide an' stuff.

Trollish tactic. state an opinion on a topic then try to change it

The least "Imperial Czar Walker" could have done was actually negotiate with the unions to increase what they pay as part of their benefits. But i guess that would have taken too long

not trollish, just saving the thread. Politically charged convo's never go well here.
Except when it deals with the Patriot Act, which I think is the one thing we can all agree to hate.

Cute kitten is cute.

But I'm not a fan of unions either... but I have no problem with their right to exist. And I believe that in the balance they have probably done far more good than harm for society.

But their influence seems to be waning. And there are a lot of conservatives who rabidly hate them and want to see them all destroyed.

Which is why the outcome of this legislation actually interests me... to see which way the wind is blowing... and if the backlash could be far more intense than anyone supporting this bill ever expected.

unions long ago strayed from their true intent, which was guarenteeing a safe workplace and a living wage, now they are trying to get white collar pay for unskilled workers mostly and screwing over their employer

they do at times protect the rights of their members, but they seem to spend more time trying to F over the NBUs for their own sake

Most labor laws today are there because strong unions fought for them. Since the early 80s lawmakers and corporate leaders have done their best to break up their power. Either by appointing anti-union Judges, or shipping manufacturing jobs overseas.

Quite frankly, teachers, fireman, police officers (all state union employees) don't get paid enough. And there was a day when a hard working individual could work at one job, do it very well, and have a decent retirement to look forward to after working 40 years with just a high school education.

IMHO if you have never worked as part of a union or at least know someone close to you who does, you don't understand what it is like for Union workers. Instead you rely on Rehtoric of politicians, media, and corporations to sway your opinion and skew the facts.

If the "Imperial Walker Budget Bill" gets passed it is quite likely a lot of state employees will end up losing their job, or take a 20% cut in their net pay. I have one friend who only gets a pay check of 24k for the year. She doesn't make a lot of money, and will make even less if the bill passes. For the last several years many State union employees have forgone raises (even Cost of living adjustments) as long as their costs for benefits didn't change.

My Fiancee works for the State DOT as a civil engineer. She brings in about 65k a year, and she is part of the state Union. If this bill passes, it is quite likely will will not be able to afford having a child. Due to her age, this means it is possible we will NEVER have a child of our own. The new budget means she goes from making 65k a year to around 55k. Oh and because her union no longer can negotiate, the state could very well end up pulling ALL of her benefits at the slightest whim of the governor.
