looking at possibilities for a job closer to home, if i can't get a car to get to that one job, i'm gonna have to work within walking distance til i can build up my credit...even considering working at grocery store as a cashier. hmm..at least i better my chances of meeting girls that way, but idk i don't really care i just want to make mad $$$..

Wildstar, what are bowling balls made of? The last time I threw one was 1985, but it seems to me that they were made out of stone, or something very close to it. You mention plastic balls; is that something new?
The earliest bowling balls were actually made of wood, but have progressed from that to rubber, plastic (polyester), urethane, to now something called reactive resin, a characteristic of which is actually oil absorption; you have to heat a resin ball at a controlled temperature to bleed the oil out of it. These are just covers, though...there's a solid core and a filler material under the cover of most resin balls.

If that rifle was made after the war, this bayonet of mine would fit it.

An M1A1 rifle (not mine; web photo rip off.) The M1 looked similar, without the bayonet lug. Both rifles used .30 Carbine ammunition.

Wildstar, I'm guessing the bowling balls I used were polyester. Everything was polyester back in those days...except the records, which were vinyl.

having second thoughts about getting a job that i need a car for....car's gonna put me out nearly a grand, a grand will get me rent til i start school, in school i get BAH which is 2 months pay via post 9/11 gi bill...plus i get refund checks, so i think i'll just have to extinguish the desire to get a job that requires a vehicle...not sure if i should still go to the interview so i can at least have my application on file in case i change my mind/get my **** straightened out..i can't wait til wednesday so i can talk to the shrink and maybe get some help as to why i'm all over the ****ing place.

I decided it would be in my best interest to scrub the interview, and the car, wait til i graduate and have more $$$ saved up from the college money, then get a car and a job...just gotta hold my breath a little longer...

So, I handed my Chevy Cobalt over to the dealership I bought 'er from so they can hold on to 'er until the part for the recall comes in. My car is apart of the massive recall about faulty ignition switches.

Due to my car not being in my possession and stuff, Chevy/GM is providing a Chevy Malibu rental car free of charge, minus fuel costs.

It's niiiicceeee...... but I miss my Cobalt. ;_;

Zoom, it's a good bet it was...even today, the typical "house" ball is a plastic one, though you can find urethane and even older resin balls abandoned on the house ball rack.

Definatly get to someone R15.

Heartbreaking loss to Belgium today. I was hoping for a nice birthday gift from the US Men's National Team today.

Oh well, 4 years to go.

That be the one. There was one that looked very similar that I thought was an M1, but it was WWII Japanese infantry... their version of the M1.

Home again...whew.

Now I have to find room in this tiny house to store over 40 guitars and amps.

I have no idea what I'm going to do...

The trailer is completely empty, and we are working on getting it and the cars sold ASAP.

What a job and a half that was...

And the hatch? I forgot that this was Florida... basically a reclaimed swamp. Remember that scene from Temple of Doom with the floor moving with all the bugs? It was that... with a smell of mildew and mold to knock you on your ass. Very little came out of there that didn't go straight onto the dump truck. It was all a loss for the most part, whatever was down there.

Dad isn't doing great. Very confused, and looking more physically frail every day. Something tells me I might not be done with funerals in Florida this summer.

I saw it happen with my mom's parents. After my grandmother died, my grandfather, who was a pretty robust guy for his age and taking care of her everyday, wasted away immediately and was gone in a couple of months after her.

It would be tragic. But his dementia is so deep at the moment he really doesn't feel like my dad anymore, so perhaps it would also be a blessing to him. If he doesn't get clearer, we are going to have to put him in a nursing home, and that's something he would hate with a passion if he could express it.

So I don't know... I don't want to lose him, but in many ways, it's like I already have.

Yeah... and there were a couple of classics under there that I'll try to save... a Martin archtop that probably dates back to the 30's... and a "The Gibson" flattop from the same era.

The guitars weren't too bad... but the cases they were in were horrifying.

[sleazy-salesman voice] So Keyan... what's it going to take to pair you with a vintage guitar today? [/voice]

Oh and inside the footlocker from the hatch? Hand grenade.

The officer who took the guns and the random box of ammo and stuff just messaged me and said: "Funny story... So I had to call by buddies at the bomb squad..."

Sorry about that Ed. I hope everything with your dad turns out ok. May the Force be with him.

Parents dropped 300$USD on new glasses for me. Mine are being held togeather by some masking tape, and broke right before my birthday. So... that's a win.

Had some people over, played some boardgames. Kept everything low key, surprisingly, because usually me and my old crew go out and have a bunch of drinks. Being poor kind of puts a damper on that.

30.... god.... I still don't know how I made it this far and not died.

Cool Guy Bad to the bone

Wow, Ed...that sucks about the hatch trove. I bet there were some old gems that got ruined down there.

Hand grenade? Dude, your dad is a cagey old bugger. No one was going to catch him unprepared. I'll bet that missing forty-five is under his pillow...

Crackers is 30? I always thought he was like 15 or something. *(Looks at his registration date, then the calendar.)* Oh. Never mind.

Finished my sheath for the second bayonet. Was going to go with red suede, but found a source of good leather at the motorcycle leathers shop. Which is why this looks the way it does:

I'm pretty sure it was an inert souvenir, with lead replacing explosives... but when faced with finding it at the bottom of a box of live ammo, they couldn't exactly take the chance that it wasn't.

But at least it was a cop who found and had to deal with it... instead of a new owner to the trailer stumbling onto that stash by accident and surprise.

Gotta try to clear room for guitars today... oh boy.

No idea where they're all going to fit.

Thanks. It's a biker's sword!

Perhaps I'll post a model or two when I have the time. My photo skills have improved to the point where I'm posting my scratch-built models at 'Starship Modelers.' Cool website, but you have to register to view pages, so...

Happy Independence Day!!!! 'Merica!

Going to a waterpark with some brothers in arms today...it's free for military personnel so that's awesome.

I think I'll be able to secure a girlfriend before this summer is over...the girl me and my friend hang out with. I'm trying at least, she's a really good match for me...almost too good. hopefully it works out for me.

I had a very boring 4th. I did nothing of note.

It was perfect, in other words.

I needed a whole day of nothing.

Of course, having the outside edge of a hurricane out the door didn't hurt at keeping me home either...

Haven't started sorting through this room full of guitars yet. Not quite ready for that...

Kinda... yes and no. I'm not at all happy about the circumstances that brought them here. And I really don't have space for everything, so I can't keep most of them. But I want to do good with these, to honor my dad's legacy... get them into the hands of the next generation of great jazz players who might not be able to afford a fantastic instrument, but who play their asses off. I don't think I can just crassly auction them all off to the highest bidder just to make a profit... but then there's always my dad's continuing care and bills to contend with.

So it's confusing as to what to do...

Dad does have a pretty good little nest egg of his own in the bank, and that shouldn't be depleted immediately.

I celebrated the 4th on the 3rd this year. Went down to Plymouth for the big celebrations they have there after work that afternoon. Caught up with my beekeeping lady friend. There's a selfie we took together over on FB... We were at the bonfire on the beach.
We stopped in to visit a friend of hers in the neighborhood who is a baker... and a big time stoner. Without thinking about it I took a chocolate she offered us. After eating it I thought... "Oh, waitaminnit..." I haven't been high since 1999... it hit me hard. It was an interesting drive back home that night.

Oh, and something else I learned yesterday... If you have really elderly instruments, like Gibsons and Martins from the 20's and 30's, that you dragged out from under your father's trailer in Florida in nasty, moldy conditions, and get them to your house, and they still smell of mildew...

It's not a great idea to spray them down with Lysol... old lacquer finishes really don't get along with it. Now I have several ancient instruments that may no longer be mildewed... but have giant white streaks all over them.

Yes... I am a moron.

water park was fun today, hung out with my friends all day, played pool at the bar managed not to drink...had 1 of those twisted iced teas at my friends place, it made me feel weird, so at least that tells me my medication is working. it's nice coming home and not feeling wasted...think i'll stay on this stuff for a while or at least til i get a car and a job. trying to be positive, because my bank account is starting to look low.

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

applying for jobs today...retail here we go again.

Applied at..

Target
Lowes
Home Depot
Staples

I really want the job at either Staples or Target...Staples would be easier though since i wouldn't have to rely too much on the bus to get there.
