This should make Ed (among others here) happy: Pink Floyd will release a new album, their first studio album since The Division Bell 20 years ago, in October.

Rogue15, we need a dishwasher, and maybe a cook.

The diner I work at is HOPPING. Now is when we either do good and build a successful business or f*ck up everyone's food and ensure that they don't come back. Unfortunately, one of the cooks is a douchebag who seems to be bent on doing the second thing.

When I was looking for work, I applied to a lot of places online and dropped my resume off in person at only one...and it turned out to be the one that hired me.

I just ordered some new tubes for my Vox AC30 (which I shouldn't even have, really). These things all seem to be made in China and Russia now, and not nearly as well as they used to be. Can't really find much of the old Mullard stock anymore

Yeah, the best you can hope for in American or European is New Old Stock... and those will be expensive, and by this point you are looking at 3rd and 4th string pickovers.

Groove Tubes does a pretty good job of sorting through the old and current stocks, and only selling the decent ones.

But yeah, only 2 tube factories left, and demand is drying up, and environmental concerns will eventually put those under too.

Get ready for the age of all-digital modelling.

no calls back yet about any of the places i applied at. my computer has a virus, i'm currently in safe mode with networking available trying to fix it. letting malwarebytes go to work, then it'll be spybot and avg

I wound up getting them from watfordvalves.com - they have their own range called Harma, which seem to be rebranded versions of other things, carefully selected and tested. That seems to be the best you can do now.

It's weird - real analog synths seem to be having something of a revival. Moog has the Minimoog Voyager, which is a beauty, Dave Smith is making some nice stuff, and Tom Oberheim is selling new versions of the SEM, Two Voice, and others. I probably mentioned it before, but Korg is supposedly releasing a faithful recreation of the ARP Odyssey soon. The thing is, this probably doesn't make much difference in a recording. There is some really nice virtual analog stuff out there, hardware and software both. But when it comes to programming and PLAYING it, nothing comes close to the real thing. It's the same thing with guitars. There are some nice digital modelling amps out there, and I have no doubt I could be fooled on a recording easily. And I'm glad they exist for the convenience they afford. But it just doesn't compare to playing the real thing.

Yeah, I'm planning on keeping the Fender Vibroverb that came in my dad's stuff... but it will need to be cleaned up and re-tubed. I'll be going through the same struggle. Last time I re-tubed an old amp, some of the tubes I needed simply weren't available, and one of my old amps now has a solid-state rectifier circuit.

I met the areas Martin-authorized repair tech today at work. Gonna get in touch with him about restoring this old archtop, and maybe having a look at the D35 with the cracked top that goes back to the 60's or 70's.

I've been soaking these things in furniture polish all day for the last 3 or 4, and the white stains from the Lysol damage has all but vanished. Chewed up 4 cans of polish though... but if the finish on these instruments can be saved, it will be worth it.

I got mad at my wife she kept using internet exploder, and not Chrome/firefox/safari etc. she kept complaining that her computer was slow. Finally after a visit to the shop she decided to switch.

one problem I do have my wife is that she is very passive agressive

and the problem still persists. out of ideas. ieplorer.exe runs 3 instances on processes in task manager, i close them out but they return...1 of them takes up roughly 60-100% CPU which causes a huge slowdown to where i can't do a damn thing. AVG is reporting a .dll file is infected but won't remove it yet keeps popping up so i have to disable that...i dont know what else to do, i ran malwarebytes and it found a bunch of infected files and supposedly quarantined them and spybot supposedly did the same thing, but i'm not seeing a difference..

ehhhh no. that would actually take even longer considering i don't have a disc or any knowledge on reinstalling the whole OS, etc.

hitmanpro took care of the trojan virus i had.

So.... I've decided to start knocking some **** off the ol' bucket list.

Nothing too fancy or grand, because most of those involve passports and a ton of money that I don't have. Air fare is expensive, especially across the Atlantic or the Pacific.

Number 5 on the bucket list is "Learn to play the Violin so people don't run in fear of the hideous noise."

... Anyone have an violin they no longer use?

been watching "addiction" on netflix...damn i thought i was an alcoholic. lol i can't drink anymore this **** got me tipsy on a twisted iced tea. **** that.

and this girl i really like said that i'm more fun when i drink, so i asked why...and it's because i'm not so uptight and i joke more. idk i just gotta let things go..i guess. need to call the VA tomorrow and see when my next appointment is for counseling.

heh no calls back yet from places i've applied...however a temp agency called me about a job working with vaccines and ice. 3rd shift at $13 an hour...i told them i have school though, and that would really interfere with that...i'd be falling asleep in class. i need a part-time job, and of course none of these ****ers wanna call me back probably because i said i will not work sunday on the application. but have night availability...so **** them if they don't want to hire me.

Nope. It's why it's on the list.

I scratched guitar playing off, as I can play to my personal satisfaction (I.e: my enjoyment). The violin playing is a bit more serious, as now that I have some (although not really translatable) experience with a stringed instrument, I feel that I could tackle it given enough time, effort and practice.

I would be looking into lessons and such, as my intially forray into looking at starting pretty much suggests that a teacher is necessary so I don't develop bad habits that would prevent me from playing things like this or this.

Obviously, those are end game goals. It took me 7+ years from when I was in the 3rd grade to 11th grade to actually not sound like crap on the trumpet and that was fighting braces too.

I would love to play this... but that's very very far off in my journey.

R15 - you will learn, as I have, that most things in life are not worth worrying or getting upset about. Go with the flow of life and see where it takes you. Worked out pretty good so far for me.

Yeah, I'm not rich or have a super large house, and generally am scraping by, but I'm happy.

Yes, you need to have a teacher...and listen to him. I have a violin student who has been coming to me for several years. At the very first lesson I told him he was holding the bow like a damn n00b, and that the first thing he needed to do if he wanted his playing to not sound like he was shoving a cat down a garbage disposal was to fix that. I taught him how to hold it. I gave him exercises that would develop it. I showed his parents what he was supposed to be doing and told them to make sure he was doing it or they were just wasting their money. And yet never once has this kid held the bow correctly. I know he practices with the same savage, caveman-esque grip he has been using since day one. He uses it right in front of me at lessons, unless I explicitly correct him. This will fix the problem for about five seconds, after which he goes right back to his regular, fail-tastic grip. I have threatened to chop off his hand and replace it with a prosthetic that can do nothing but hold a violin bow correctly, but alas, my words have failed to have any impact. This has really prevented him from achieving any significant improvement. Well, along with his utter tone-deafness and complete lack of rhythm.

It's still charged at 90%.

Keyan: What do you think of electric violins? Being an apartment dwelller, and my odd ass hours, I can't really practice the thing at night unless it's really quiet or silent..... opinions?

I hear there are mutes for the violin as well... are they worth investing in?

I would only go the electric violin route if you want to play the electric violin. If you want to learn the standard violin and its repertoire, you are going to be unsatisfied with the electric. Yes, there are practice mutes, and they work. They are not expensive, so I'd recommend starting with that. You can do other things too, like hang blankets.

Some pics of dad's guitars are up on Facebook. Here and here.

Hopefully linking this way works... otherwise I'll have to find and update my old Photobucket account, or start a new one.

cut 35 seconds off my run today. 2 mile in 19:45...actual 2 mile run probably a minute faster than that because i'm running up and down 2 hills and it's definitely not flat.

also got on the scale when i woke up, and am down 7 pounds from the last time i weighed myself. so i got that going for me. which is nice.

lowe's interview wasn't really promising...10-25 hours a week, but at least it's something maybe they'll call me back for a face-to-face interview.

was job searching and found out the the prison within 1 mile from me is hiring correctional officer, so i said **** it and put my name in for it...had to print the application and walk down to the city administration building...idk we'll see what happens. funny thing about that, today was the final day they were accepting applications!

Already 8 weeks in out of 14 in my summer league, and my team is leading, with the third place team 6 points behind second, so if the championship can be isolated to two teams having a chance, I'll be happy.

Dad had hip surgery today. And I've been filling out, copying, and faxing medical and financial forms all day.

He's apparently doing OK. I'm a wreck.

I got a call from a local company about a phone interview for an administrative assistant position.

So.... that's a thing. Pays giant sacks of money.

If it actually comes in giant sacks, you may want to ask a few questions before accepting.

today made a huge change to my college schedule for next semester...well it's not in the system yet but i got the classes scheduled so i will be able to graduate spring 2015 for sure. changing my degree program from the criminal justice (police and security) to criminal justice (counseling), as that deals more with the corrections side of things, I never really wanted to be a police officer anyway, and it's still a criminal justice degree...i could probably double-major, or finish up the police/security major if i decide otherwise. I went from 4 classes to 7 classes. dropping police operations and picking up abnormal psychology, forensic science, world history as my diversity elective, and intro to human services as regular elective.

hopefully my adviser doesn't get shocked by the drastic change. she's already aware that i'm looking into changing over. i'm just glad i decided now instead of halfway through the semester, that police operations class would've been useless to me if i was to change my major.

keeping my hopes high that i can land a decent job after i graduate.

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

So I pulled the trigger on the violin:

Stentor 1500 4/4

It got decent reviews and I checked out a few video reviews from a few people. Definatly going to take it a local violin shop before I even try to play it to catch any other issues, possibly get some better strings on it.

Got a mute as well, so I can practice.

Now... that teacher bit....

That's the hope anyway, I mean, I have two associates and have found jack **** for related employment.

Got a bunch of violin manuals and exercises. Gotta start learning to read music properly again after so long, and not just rely on tabs.
