I've recently tried to reinstall FC, since i got a new processor, however, since (it seems) i've installed direct X 8, it won't run anymore. Has this problem ever come up b4 and is there a fix?
hmmmm....I got the blackout screens b4 updating my drivers...consider updating drivers...

Dadel, I'm running FC on DirectX 8.0a no problems whatsoever. I can't say anything about DirectX 8.1 though - never tried it.
I'm assuming you're using nvidia drivers - I'd start your troubleshooting there, maybe trying different, older versions. I can't recommend any specifically as I use a Kyro2. And nothing else has changed on your machine except DirectX version and new cpu?
I use Direct X 8.1 with a ATI 64 MB Radeon 7000 and no problems. I would try updating your Drivers for your Video Card. (?)
