Guide To Sp And Mp Skin Conversion

Here's a step by step guide, and it should work then (remember, this will replace the playable Kyle in SP with your chsen MP skin):

1. Get your MP skin .pk3 file you want to convert and open it using Winzip.

2. Inside, there should be approx 10-20 picture files of different parts of the skin, a sound file, a model.glm file, a model_default.skin and possibly a model_red.skin and model_blue files. The ones you need to worry about later are the last four. DON'T TOUCH THE PICTURES, SOUND OR MODEL.GLM FILES.

3. Then, unzip/extract all the contents to a tempory folder (name it temp for now). If you look in the temp folder, there should be a model folder, in there is a player folder, and in there is a 'skinname' folder (this folder will be called whatever your skin is called, but I'll refer to it as 'skinname'). Inside that folder should be all the files.

4. Now you start altering. Rename the 'skinname' folder to 'kyle'.

5. Go into the 'kyle' folder and open up the model_default_skinname.skin files (there will be 3 of these if you have red and blue MP skins. You may not need to change 'em for SP, but I did it just in case).

6. Open it up using wordpad/notepad. There should be loads of lines of writing. There are two types of lines, one type you need to change. Here are the examples:

1. hips, models/players/skinname/skinname_part_of_skin.tga
2. hips_caps, models/players/stormtrooper/caps.tga

Don't touch lines with 'stormtrooper' in, only the first kind. In all of the lines with 'models/players/skinname', change skinname to 'kyle'. Once that's done, save the file and do the same method with the two other .skin files.

7. Your .skin default file should read model_default_skinname.skin. You must delete the last skinname bit, so it just reads model_default.skin (this is the bit BradFu left out I think).

8. Now leave the 'kyle' folder, leave the 'player' folder, leave the 'model' folder and leave the 'temp' folder so that you can see the 'temp folder. Right click on it (or whatever) and turn the 'temp' folder into a .zip file. Rename it from temp.pk3 so it says kyle.pk3.

9. Now go into your base directory in the Star Wars Jedi Outcast folder or wherever you installed it to, and move your save game folder out of there and put it somewhere safe (you have to start a brand new game with a new model, but you could work out someway to reinsert the files, but I didn't risk it).

10. Now for the final stage: put the kyle.pk3 file into your 'base' directory. Start up the game and begin a new game. Hopefully, you will see your skin in the flesh!

I hope this will work. I went through it loads of times, but when I tried this way it finally worked. Good luck with it and e-mail back if you have problems. I finally got my Anakin skin to work, it's pretty cool (I got a bit tired of that stupid beard of Kyle's).

hi i have just one question !! an that is how must i do this:

It should be simple. Just right-click on the file and click rename. You should be able to just delete the last bit.

Im unclear on this: "and turn the 'temp' folder into a .zip file. Rename it from temp.pk3 so it says kyle.pk3." I was taking the folders that were models/players/kyle and adding them to a rar file, the converting the rar to a pk3 and nothing.
Should I have just renamed the kyle folder to a pk3 file (minus the models/players folders)? Also, I assume you mean add the kyle folder to a zip file, because when I rename it it remains as a folder that is just called kyle.zip.

What I mean by 'turn' is zip up the 'temp folder. On my computer, I rightclick on it and there is an option that says 'add to zip'. This then packs everything inside the temp folder into one zip file.

If you are still unsure, you may need to ask someone elase for verification. I know master obi-wan up this page got it working. If you ask him you may get some more credible answers.

'anakin won't work' for master obi-wan

master obi-wan,

I'm not sure why there's a problem. It should work just the same. Anyway, make sure you follow my walkthrough again right up to where you open the model_default_skinname.skin file.
As for this part:

The part on the end of the line, like the 'anakin_mouth_eyes.tga' (after the last forwardslash) must be left alone as before. The only thing in here you need to change is the 'anakin' name folder after 'models/players/' (the one in bold above) to 'kyle'.

As for the red and blue skin files, I altered the lines inside like the model_default_skinname.skin file above (you do remember to delete the 'skinname' bit, right) just to be safe - as it is for SP, you may only need the model_default.skin file, so you can delete the red and blue if you wish. It's up to you. If this does not work, just change the lines in all 3 skin files the same.

Hope this helps. Follow the rest of the walkthrough, let me know on the thread about any problems or success.

i don't complety understand! because this file is in the folder that i schould rename to kyle !! and i don't now what to about this file just leave it alone or what because in any other skin it does not stand there !!!

It's alright. I'll try to explain it clearer, as I haven't done a very good job so far, obviously:

1. After unzipping the contents of the .pk3 file (right at the beginning), there should be a folder (which you call temp). Inside that there's a folder called models. In that a folder called players, and in that a folder called anakin (right?). Inside this folder there are all the picture and skin files.

2. You must change the anakin folder so it says 'kyle' instead.

3. Now open up the model_default_anakin.skin file in notepad. There should be loads of lines. In all lines that say models/players/anakin/name_of_skin_part.tga (ones that have anakin in them) rename anakin to 'kyle'. That's all you need to do inside the .skin files.

4. If you think it appropriate (I haven't tried it yet) delete the red and blue skin files.

5. Now come back so you can see the model_default_anakin.skin file. Delete the end bit so it says model_default.skin.

Now come back up and turn the temp folder into a .zip file called 'kyle'.zip.

That should be it. Anymore problems, let me know.

yes i did al that but there is a file in my anakin folder that's called:

"anakin_mouth_eyes.tga"

its inside the folder but when you look at any other skin that file is not in there !!! so i think that is the problem why i does not work
and when you look inside the anakin default skin file with notepad there isen't anything in there from anakin_mouth_eyes.tga

so i don't now what to do next any other skin i convertid works just fine with no problems its just this one skin !!!

Could someone post what the entire lines look like from a working Mp to SP converted skin. In essence, if we renamed the skins files to match the pictures and the vader or darth_maul to kyle then one working skin file could be reworked to use for all files. If someone posts the lines in this post, the we would all have a frame of reference to look at.

I have a couple of questions:

When I eventually play the SP game again, I'd like to replace all the Stormtroopers with Clone Trooper skins. How do I do this? Can this be done or does your guide only work for replacing Kyle?

Mine only works for replacing SP Kyle. I'm not sure. You could try going through my walkthrough (using your clone trooper skin) but instead of replacing the skinname with kyle, replace it with stormtrooper. i have no idea whether this will work. I may try it actually and post my report back on the thread. Good luck.

I saw someone post an in-game picture where all the StormTroopers have been replaced with Clone Troopers skins. It looked pretty good! I'm not sure how he did this, but I'm guessing its done the same way as replacing the Kyle skin in SP.

For those of us who are not good at fiddling around with the code, lets hope someone makes a mod that automatically changes the skins in SP. Someone already did it with the Jango Fett Mod. It replaces Kyle with Jango Fett and even has Jango Fett in the cut scenes.

I would love to just D/L a file, drop it in my base folder and *boom!* all my Storm Trooper models are automatically replaced by Clone Troopers or even Battle Droids. Obviously it can be done, since the Jango Mod has proven it.

Its wierd how everyone makes MP skins and wont bother to also make a SP skin. Personally, I rather play SP then MP with this game.

hi guys....
I am working on a SP skin mod but havent even made the first skin yet. I have made skins for other games such as Aliens versus Predator 2 and have only just made it to the JKII scene.
I came to this thread to try to learn how to make skins and i am trying to replace kyle with my own skin/model. Unfotunatly I followed all tutorials and still cannot get it working (including this one). My main trouble is making the mod work! Please help! Once I have made one skin there will be many more!!

I can get it working in Modviewer but cannot get it working in game!!! I dont like these tools...

Hrm. When I do this, it results in the face skin getting jumbled across the model's face in the first cutscene, then when I go to the first level, the model is a wierd mixture of kyle and the skin -- like the program is still trying use kyle's model and having trouble getting the skin to work on it.

The only time this works for me is when I use one of the skins based on the kyle model.

It works and heres how I did it:
I converted the Vader MP skin to a Vader SP skin. Extract the "models/players/vader" to any part of your hard drive (note: you can extract to a temp folder but you DO NOT add the temp folder to a winzip file later) Rename the "vader" folder to "kyle". Do the "vader" to "kyle" conversions in the model_default.skin and save the file back to model_default.skin (note: you change it from .skin to .txt to edit it and now are changing it back to a .skin file). Delete ALL the files in the "kyle" folder (which was once the "vader" folder) that are not in the model_default.skin. For example, the files with red or blue, and sp are not in the model_default.skin so delete them.
Now you have all the files like darklighter has told you to do.
**IMPORTANT*************************************
Now RIGHT CLICK on the models folder and find the "Winzip: ADD TO ZIP FILE. . ." function. Add the models folder to a winzip file (note: close all winzip files that are already open before doing this) and create a file called models.zip. Now rename the file to vader.pk3 and your done.
***What did I already say*****************************
Put it in the base directory and play a new game.

In Windows XP: to change a .zip or .skin or .pk3 file to another type go into "folder options" and "unclick hide extensions for known file types".

Also, if I can convert MP skins to SP skins then a Ewok can ride a bike.

If you noticed, while I renamed all the "lando" into Kyle, I left the name solo alone. Should I rename them kyle too?


And one more thing... should I rename the .jpg images? A couple of 'em says solo (for example, solo_face.jpg, solo_head.jpg, etc), so should I rename them kyle or just leave 'em alone? Thanks for any input you can give me. I'm very new at this.

You shouldn't do anything to the 'solo' bit on the end of the lines. These relate to what thr file image is called, so renaming it to kyle will just make it worse.

I don't quite know what happened to my conversion. It might be that some skins work differently than others when doing this. Anyway, I'll try out some more conversions and get back.

Clone troopers in SP

I have made a miraculous discovery!
In answer to one of the questions before, I have discovered how to replace stormtroopers in SP with clone troopers.

1. Find a method for you that works in converting MP skins so you can play as them in SP.

2. Whenever you need to replace the 'skinname' with 'kyle', don't. Replace it with 'stormtrooper' instead. This includes changing the name of the 'skinname' folder and the lines inside the .skin files.

I found that you need to .zip up the 'temp' folder and not the 'models' folder, but it may work differently with some skins.

HINT: If your game loads up with a slightly mangled face of different skins and a mixture of clothing, it means you haven't changed the model_default_skinname.skin file so it just says model_default.skin.

Also, if you are going to use skins in SP, you don't need the extra red and blue .skin files (you can delete them or move them to another folder).

Thanks Darklighter. I got my replacement skin for kyle to work. Some skins react differently though. I tried replacing him with "Luke-A New Hope" skin, but apparently, when this is done, the Luke skin gets messed up. But I did get the Han Solo skin to work. I'm gonna eventually try replacing the stormtroopers. Thanks again.

Hehe, I just replaced all of my stormtroopers with Clonetroopers, and as a test, I also replaced my Kyle with Han Solo - ESB skin to see if I'm able to use both skins at the same time. I'm happy to say, it was a success! Its pretty wild playing as Han and killing Clonetroopers. I can't wait until the Battle Droids skins are released. Doing this is pretty easy.


I'd like to replace more skins, unfortunately I don't know the name of some of 'em. Does anyone know the names of all of the default skins in JK2? Thanks again Darklighter!

Extract this file in your "base" directory: "assets0.pk3"
You then have most of the textures, models, what not from JKII!
If you go into models/players, you will see all the character directorys. Does this help?
REMEMBER, dont delete the "assets0.pk3" file! Just use it to get most of the JKII textures.

Hrm, I appreciate all your advice, but I still get the mangled face / mangled player even though I rename all of it. I can get any skin based on the kyle model to work, but otherwise, it's the same old jumbled mess.

Has anyone been able to get Dark Forces Kyle, Corran Horn, or Ep. 2 Obi Wan to work with this? Is it possible my custom npcs.cfg file is mucking things up (used to set dismemberment to 100 and turn surfaces off on Jan)?

yeah i got the al macdonald obi-wan kenobi from episode one skin and i converted it to sp also the skin of obi-wan kenobi from episode 2 by alphan jijua i converted that to !!!! and they work just fine bouth file's are in the jkii.net file base !!!

but iam waiting on the obi-wan kenobi model from vegeta2K1 it looks good so far !!!!

i hope its ready soon i would look great with the obi-wan saber !!!
